The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Kehinde Yemitan, a suspect in a murder and ritual killing case.
He was apprehended at his hideout in Ilogbo, Ota, Ogun State.
Kehinde’s arrest followed the earlier apprehension of his twin brother, Taiwo Yemitan, and an accomplice, Kazeem, for the alleged murder and dismemberment of a commercial sex worker, identified only as Darasimi. The victim was reportedly lured to the suspects’ residence in Abeokuta and killed.
The state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed the development in a statement.
She noted that the arrest was made possible through collaboration between the police and the So Safe Corps.
“On December 30, 2024, at about 1700hrs, the Divisional Police Officer of Sango Ota received a tip from a volunteer informant indicating that Kehinde Yemitan, the twin brother of Taiwo Yemitian, was hiding in the Ilogbo community,” Odutola stated.
“The Police launched a manhunt for Kehinde in connection with murder and the mutilation of the head of one Darasimi ‘f’ surname unknown on the 22nd of December, 2024 when his twin brother Taiwo YEMITAN and Kazeem ‘m’ were arrested at about 0140hrs by the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa after the duo lured their victim Darasimi, a night sex worker in Abeokuta to their house for ritual purposes.
“Following this information, a surveillance team, in collaboration with the So Safe Corps, promptly mobilised to the community and apprehended the suspect.”
According to the police spokesperson, Kehinde admitted to conspiring with others to commit the crime. Community members also corroborated his involvement in other criminal activities.
The police spokesperson used the opportunity to caution young women against engaging in casual relationships or hookups for financial gain, citing the dangers associated with such practices.
She also appealed to parents to raise awareness about the risks of engaging in vices like prostitution, which could expose individuals to life-threatening situations.
“A further appeal goes to the teeming young females to see this unfortunate incident as a big lesson and be cautious not to fall victim to another ritual killing,” Odutola added.
