Sony’s new 3D platformer Astro Bot is set for release tomorrow, but reviews for the title have flooded in today. From the looks of it, the game is getting very strong review scores that mostly sit in the 9 to 10 (out of 10) range.
With this, more footage of the game is starting to be shared online by those who have played it, and it appears that the game actually features an interesting fighting game cameo. Since the game isn’t technically out yet, we will warn that spoilers lie ahead.
Astro Bot is a sequel to 2020’s Astro’s Playroom in which players take control of a small robot named Astro Bot. Astro can run, jump, spin attack, swim, punch and fly on a DualSense controller, and throughout the game the player has the ability to find and rescue other bots that can help you on your adventure.
These additional bots tend to be dressed up as popular characters from Sony franchises. In the launch trailer, we see all kinds of familiar robot faces pop up such as PaRappa The Rapper, Ape Escape, Jak and Daxter, and many others.
Apparently, there also exist some interesting cameos in Astro Bot, as one Twitter user shared a couple of clips that feature a robot that is dolled up to look like Sol Badguy from the Guilty Gear franchise.
The first clips shows this Sol Badbot interacting with Astro and performing his flaming uppercut before stabbing his sword into the ground.
We get a closer look at its in-game model in the second clip and see that he is called “Fire Blade” with a description that reads: “Too hot for most to handle.” As the uploader of these clips, Tubularparu, points out, the little Guilty Gear-themed bot even does Sol Badguy’s idle stance at the selection screen.
Guilty Gear Strive, the latest entry in the series from Arc System Works, has a comfortable home on Sony’s PlayStation platforms. So, though it’s surprising to see a cameo like this randomly pop up in a PS5 platformer, it’s also certainly within the realm of plausibility.

Based on the game’s launch trailer, the cameo bots are definitely a big part of this adventure. This means we might see other interesting appearances from characters that aren’t exclusively Sony IPs, though we’ll just have to wait and see what pops up after the game drops tomorrow.
