The original Tekken was released on September 21, 1994. Indeed, today is the 30th anniversary of the Tekken series. Since then, eight games within the mainline series have been released with the latest entry being Tekken 8.
To commemorate this occasion, PlayStation UK has released a video highlighting how the Mishima family keeps throwing each other off of cliffs. All the scenes play out with comical music playing in the background.
This trend actually first started with the very first Tekken game. Kazuya Mishima’s backstory is that his father, Heihachi Mishima, threw him off a cliff when he was just a child. Needless to say, the canonical ending of this game has Kazuya winning the King of Iron Fist Tournament, then paying Heihachi back by throwing him off a cliff.
Hilariously enough, while this would be very effective at killing someone in the real world, it’s been proven to be highly ineffective against those of the Mishima bloodline. Despite this, they just keep attempting to do this to one another.
At one point, it was even believed that Kazuya had finally killed Heihachi by the end of Tekken 7 when he dropped him into a volcano. “Heihachi Mishima is completely dead,” boldly declared Katsuhiro Harada during the Evo Tekken 8 Showcase event.
However, it turns out that Heihachi is alive once again, and he’s coming to Tekken 8 as the third DLC fighter of the Season 1 roster. In fact, a new gameplay trailer for Heihachi is scheduled to be released on September 24, 2024.
