A Memorial Celebration was held for Lauren Doyle (L.D.) Stone at Pleasant Home School on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Mr. Stone founded the L. D. Stone Foundation to provide scholarships for deserving graduates of Pleasant Home School and other schools in Covington County, allowing them to pursue their degrees and achieve their academic goals.
Mr. Stone was a 1935 graduate of Pleasant Home School who had a successful business career in the South Florida area. He is fondly remembered for his delivery of fresh oranges every year to Pleasant Home School and to his many relatives, friends, and neighbors in the Pleasant Home community.
He was instrumental in training several young men from the Pleasant Home area in the skill of tile laying and terrazzo floors.
Mr. Stone was always proud of his school and established the L. D. Stone Foundation in 2003. The foundation was emblematic of his generous and loving heart, and his strong desire to aid and assist the young people of the Pleasant Home community.
From 2008 until 2024, the L. D. Stone Foundation awarded 96 scholarships totaling $271,800 to Pleasant Home graduates and other graduates in Covington County.
Mr. Barry Wood, Principal of Pleasant Home School, welcomed the 2024 scholarship recipients and their family members to the reception. A plaque in memory of L. D. Stone was presented to Pleasant Home School and will be displayed by the school as a continued remembrance of L. D. Stone and his generosity.
