Photos from UNICEM’s foreign expatriates kidnapping in Calabar

Following the recent kidnappings of five UNICEM staffs and killing of one driver on the 22nd of June, 2016, Calabar Reporters has further obtained details and pictures of how the incident took place.

The people said to be kidnapped by gunmen in boats were five of them, mostly expatriates, two Nigerians (one a driver while the other a worker) and 3 foreigners. According to reports, the expatriates were contractors driving in a convoy of 4 vehicles including 2 SUVs and 2 Hilux. The kidnapped persons were all in one of the two SUVs as the security personnels escorting them took off to their heels.

The names of the kidnapped persons were Jack Countentz (Australia), Mark Gabberdy (Australia), Peter Zoutenbier (Australia), Wayne Smith (South Africa), Jamal Khan (New Zealand), Austin Enok (Nigeria) and a driver simply identified as Howel (Nigeria).

The remaining expatriate who was lucky hid himself in one of the vehicle as the militants dispeared into the long river. Although he couldn’t speak to any reporter as the shock is still in his aisle.
