The Defence Research and Development Bureau (DRDB) is holding its maiden Annual Seminar and Exhibition in Abuja.
The event scheduled for October 15-16, at the college Auditorium of the National Defence College, Abuja, would be graced by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar as a special guest of honour.
The theme of the exhibition is ‘Enhancing Synergy in Research and Development towards a Robust Military Industrial Complex in Nigeria.’
The two-day event is expected to feature a series of seminars, and exhibitions from the various Services and private entities who through research and development have established relevant equipment and operational tools needed to promote and sustain national security.
A preliminary visit to the Nigerian Navy stands showed the exhibition of the self-built Seaward Defence Boats (SDB) 3 also known as Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) OJI P275.
THE WHISTLER gathered that the SDB 3 is the third in the series of SDBs built by the Nigerian Navy designed to perform the roles of quick intervention, interdiction and patrol duties.
The SDB 3 characteristics include; 43m length, 7.5m width and 1.8m draft with a displacement of about 260 Tons.
The armament capabilities include a 20mm gun located at the forecastle of the ship and a 4 x 12.7 mm machine at the wings of the vessel.
The vessel is also armed with a 40mm AGL (Automatic Grenade Launcher), with a good seakeeping capability and a range of about 1500 nautical miles.
THE WHISTLER further gathered from the exhibitors that SDB IV & V which is a sister ship to NNS OJI is currently under construction at the Naval Dockyard Limited, Victoria Island, Lagos State, and will feature an upgrade in its endurance, speed and seakeeping capacity.
THE WHISTLER visited the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) stand where the Indigenous Autopilot Design on TSAIGUMI is being exhibited.
The Autopilot Design is an autonomous flight control system for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
Inspired by the Indigenous experience, the NAF believes the design seamlessly integrates with the UAV, allowing it to navigate and operate autonomously while considering environmental effects.
The exhibitors told THE WHISTLER that the innovative autopilot system leverages indigenous expertise in navigation and environmental awareness, providing a unique and sustainable solution for UAV control.
Other exhibitors participating at the event include the Defence Headquarters, DRDB, Proforce – an Indigenous film, producing multi-purpose armoured vehicles, Innoson Motors, and Dynalimb Technologies involved in the production of prosthetics for people with disabilities among others.
