Job Overview:
An Indigenous Nigerian Offshore Exploration & Production (E&P) Company is seeking a Petroleum Engineer with 3–6 years of experience to support offshore field development, production optimization, and well operations. The role requires expertise in well performance analysis, production enhancement, offshore drilling operations, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure efficient hydrocarbon recovery while adhering to industry best practices and Nigerian oil & gas regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Well & Production Optimization
- Monitor and evaluate well performance using well test data, production logs, and reservoir models.
- Recommend production enhancement strategies such as artificial lift, stimulation, and water/gas injection.
- Analyze pressure and flow rate data to optimize well productivity and field recovery.
2. Offshore Drilling & Well Intervention Support
- Assist in well planning, drilling program design, and execution of offshore wells.
- Provide engineering input for well interventions, workovers, and completion design.
- Monitor offshore drilling and completion operations to ensure efficiency and minimize non-productive time.
3. Reservoir Management & Field Development
- Collaborate with geoscientists and reservoir engineers to optimize field development strategies.
- Support reservoir surveillance programs, including pressure monitoring and production forecasting.
- Assist in reserve estimation and development of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques.
4. Regulatory Compliance & Liaison
- Ensure offshore operations comply with Nigerian regulations (NUPRC, NMDPRA, NCDMB, NOSDRA).
- Liaise with NUPRC, NMDPRA, NCDMB, and other regulatory agencies for drilling approvals, well testing permits, and production reporting.
- Prepare and submit technical reports, well performance data, and field development plans to regulatory bodies.
- Participate in regulatory audits, partner reviews, and government inspections.
- Keep up-to-date with evolving Nigerian petroleum regulations and ensure company compliance.
5. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Compliance
- Ensure all offshore petroleum engineering activities align with HSE policies and best practices.
- Conduct risk assessments and recommend safety measures for offshore drilling and production operations.
- Support environmental impact assessments and offshore spill prevention strategies.
6. Technology & Continuous Improvement
- Utilize industry software (e.g., Prosper, GAP, MBAL, Eclipse, OLGA) for production and reservoir analysis.
- Implement new technologies to enhance offshore production efficiency and reduce costs.
- Stay updated on advancements in petroleum engineering, offshore drilling techniques, and digital oilfield solutions.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 3–6 years of experience in offshore petroleum engineering, well operations, or production optimization.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of well performance analysis, nodal analysis, and artificial lift techniques.
- Experience with offshore drilling, well completion, and production optimization.
- Proficiency in petroleum engineering software (Prosper, Eclipse, MBAL, OLGA, WellFlo).
- Understanding of Nigerian oil & gas regulatory requirements and offshore operations.
Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge:
- Familiarity with Nigerian petroleum laws and regulatory processes involving NUPRC, DPR, NCDMB, and NOSDRA.
- Experience in regulatory reporting and compliance documentation for offshore operations.
Certifications:
- IWCF (International Well Control Forum) or Well Control Certification is an advantage.
- Membership in professional bodies such as SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) is a plus.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, regulatory communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management.
Work Environment:
- Office-based with regular offshore rotations to production platforms and drilling rigs.
- Frequent interactions with regulatory agencies, joint venture partners, and field operations teams.
- May require extended offshore field assignments based on project needs.
