Mrs. Paula Kimbro Hester, 77, of Andalusia, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, in the Opp Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Paula’s parents were Ferol and Olene Kimbro, and she was raised in Andalusia until 1965 when the family moved to Ft. Walton Beach. After schooling, Paula’s work as an insurance agent carried her to south Florida where she met her husband, Wiley “Buck” Hester. They were married in 1987 and became active members of Florida Gardens Baptist Church in Lake Worth, Florida. Many wonderful friendships were formed there, but in 2006, urged by three hurricanes in 13 months, they decided to make Andalusia their permanent retirement home. There, Paula renewed many old friendships, and both she and Buck formed many new friendships as members of the First Baptist Church.
Paula had a very friendly and outgoing personality, and her vibrant laugh was heard on many occasions. She also enjoyed her involvement with the Red Cross, Pilot Club, and the Andalusia Humane Society, and her hobbies of collecting dolls, cups, and bells.
Paula’s pride and joy were her son, Robert Michael McKinley, Jr. “Mike”, his wife Soraya, grandson, Christopher, and granddaughter, Christina. Mike is retired military, (Lt. Col.), and after obtaining his doctorate degree presently teaches online and also on campus at the University of Alabama. Christopher is presently serving as a U.S. Army Captain stationed in Georgia. Christina is very involved in her many activities as a junior at Thompson High School. Paula is also survived by several aunts and cousins whom she loved dearly.
After encountering serious health problems in 2020 and 2021, Paula was admitted to the Opp Health and Rehab facility. There, she received wonderful care and support for almost three years, for which her family is very grateful.
A public viewing was held on Friday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. until noon at Foreman Funeral Home. A private graveside was held for family only.
