Paul Scholes is an absolute club legend for Manchester United, being well-regarded as one of the best midfielders to grace Old Trafford.
The England international came through the United academy, joining the main squad in 1992 and spent two decades with the club before he retired in 2013.
With such a long career at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson, Scholes made a total of 716 appearances, grabbing 155 goals and 81 assists.
During this time, the midfielder won countless trophies, including 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, five Community Shields, four FA Cups, two English League Cups, an Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Needless to say, Scholes was a key part of Ferguson’s success at United, holding the middle of the pitch.

Recently the 49-year-old has come out to defend his former manager amid Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s termination of the 82-year-old’s contract.
Paul Scholes addresses Sir Alex Ferguson being removed as global ambassador
After retiring from managing the club in 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson was given the role of global ambassador for The Red Devils. However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has recently ended the Scotsman’s contract and £2 million per year salary as yet another of INEOS’ cost-cutting schemes.
Now, Paul Scholes has branded the move “distasteful” and “disrespectful” for the man who brought United so much success.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Scholes said: “It’s a tough one. I felt it was a little bit distasteful, for what that man has done for the club – almost a little bit disrespectful.”
He continued: “But they [Ineos] are new owners and new owners make changes and they think what they are doing is best for the club.
“Now if they think they can save whatever money it is – I know there’s been talk of £ 2 million, I don’t know if that is correct or not – but if they think they can use that elsewhere then so be it.
“This club owes a lot to Sir Alex Ferguson, it’s where it is now mainly because of the success he had for so many years. And the timing of it was a little bit poor as well.
“They were in a really bad run of form. Could you have waited or [made it] before the season started, done it at the end of the season? The publicity wasn’t great around it but Sir Alex will be fine, he’ll go on and still be the best ambassador this club can ever have.”
