It’s recently come to light that Paul Pogba has not only been having struggles in is career, but in is personal life too.
Back in 2023, Pogba was hit with a four-year ban from football for taking DHEA, a substance which boosts testosterone and is on WADA’s banned substances list.
However, the midfielder appealed the ban successfully, seeing it shortened to 18 months.
Ultimately he won the case as despite inadvertently taking DHEA, it only affects female athletes.
However, this isn’t the only court case surrounding the France international.
Paul Pogba has found himself prosecuting his brother for extortion dating back to 2022.
Matthias Pogba and five other men have been found guilty of attempting to extort €13 million (£10.7 million) out of the Juventus star.
A Paris court handed Mathias Pogba a three years sentence, of which two of which are suspended.
The remaining year will be served under house arrest with an electronic tag, a common practice for sentences shorter than two years. This type of sentence is favoured to avoid further overcrowding of French prisons.
Mathias Pogba was fined €20,000 as well as his three year sentence for his role in the extortion plot, which included putting pressuring the player, his family and his business contacts to deliver the money.
The five other defendants, of which three were childhood friends of the midfielder, were found guilty of extortion and abduction. They were given sentences ranging from four to eight years, and fines of €20,000 to €40,000.
Mbeko Tabula, Mathias Pogba’s lawyer, labelled the sentences “extremely harsh” and plans to appeal. He said his client was “obviously in a state of shock”.
The lawyer added: “From the outset, he has maintained his innocence, saying that he was manipulated, that he was coerced, that he was pressured, that he would never have acted negatively towards his brother.”
However, the court heard that Mathias Pogba was a front man in the scheme. He published a video on social media in August 2022 in which he promised revelations about his younger brother, Paul Pogba, that he said were “likely to be explosive”.
Paul Pogba explained to French investigators that he had been “tricked by childhood friends” from the Parisian suburb where he and his brother grew up.
He recounted being kidnapped and held at gunpoint by two masked men with assault rifles who demanded €13million for “services rendered” and insulted him for failing to help them financially. At the time, Paul Pogba said he had paid them €100,000.
