A former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Sunday dismissed rumours of his switch from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a post on his X handle, El-Rufai urged Nigerians to ignore the reports and described the claims as “patent lies.”
The ex-governor said he has instructed his lawyers to take legal action against those spreading the misinformation.
He wrote: “Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers.”
Also, a close associate of the former governor described the claims as the work of mischief makers.
He added that El-Rufai, a prominent figure within the APC, could not have defected to the PDP without making it public.
El-Rufai has enjoyed a frosty relationship with some key figures in the APC, especially those in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He was denied the ministerial slot in August 2023 over some controversial remarks credited to him shortly after that year’s election.
El-Rufai’s government was indicted for alleged corruption by a panel set up by the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 2024 to probe his eight year rule in the state.
