With Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee having already joined Manchester United, the club’s new hierarchy’s transfer strategy is making waves this summer.
While additional signings are anticipated, the Red Devils must also offload players to balance their finances.
The new leadership have already sold Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, and Donny van de Beek in this window.
Another player potentially on the move is Facundo Pellistri.
Pellistri spent last season on loan at Granada, scoring twice and provided two assists in 15 La Liga appearances.
This summer, the 22-year-old Uruguay winger is attracting interest from multiple clubs.
Despite showing flashes of his quality, including a notable performance against Barcelona, Pellistri has struggled with consistency since joining United in 2020.
Pellistri has firmly established himself as a first team player for the Uruguay national side, but hasn’t been able to have the same impact at Old Trafford.
His contract with United runs until 2025, but the club is believed to be open to offers.
Greek Super League side Panathinaikos have reportedly made significant progress in talks with United to sign Pellistri, as per journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos.
Other clubs, including Flamengo, Corinthians, Besiktas and Boca Juniors, have also shown interest, especially following Pellistri’s impressive showing at CONMEBOL Copa America 2024, where he helped Uruguay secure a third-place finish.
It remains to be seen if Panathinaikos or any other interested club will finalise a deal to acquire the Uruguayan international this summer.
