A pan-Orthodox fund supporting mission priests and parishes is aiming to “transform North America with the fullness of the Orthodox faith.”
Share the Faith Ministries, which was established in 2015 and enjoys the endorsement of a several hierarchs, currently supports nine mission priests from a variety of canonical jurisdictions.
Share the Faith is the only non-profit in the United States with the purpose of funding and supporting mission priests who are struggling with personal finances or mission needs.
“Our aim is not to replace the safety net each Archdiocese already has in place to support their missions, but to be a supplement to this goal and, God willing, in our way help remove the financial barrier to help reverse the clergy shortage we are experiencing,” board member Dn. Christopher Purdef writes in the ministry’s press release.
The Share the Faith brochure explains:
A substantial financial base is necessary to get a mission priest sent out by an Orthodox diocese. This means there is a disproportionate advantage for missions to thrive in wealthy areas while low-income areas struggle to keep parishes open.
At Share the Faith we know how important it is to reach everyone in America with the fullness of the Orthodox faith, that’s why we fund mission priests. Our fund mobilizes Orthodox missions so that every soul might be saved.
In addition to raising funds to support mission priests, Share the Faith also provides a mentoring and education program for supported parish councils.
