Although it’s far from prominent as it once was, the skill of pixel art lives on through talented creators dedicated to the craft and looking to do more with it.
Hien is one such fantastic pixel artist whose keeping the 2D dream alive with his recent works for Street Fighter 6, Dragon Ball Z, Mortal Kombat 1, Guilty Gear Strive and beyond inspired by The King of Fighters 13’s iconic style.
Not only has Hien put together some really cool pixel renditions of Marisa and A.K.I. for SF6, but he’s also got Juri’s third costume with the pajamas before we can even buy it in the game.
This isn’t the first time he’s done extra outfits for Juri either considering Hien previously made pixel art for all of the Street Fighter 5 fan costume design finalists, and you can see how much progress he’s made the past three years — along with how the process works.
This is how I approach most of my sprites. Sometimes I skip the earlier process and go straight into it but for the most part this is my workflow.#PixelArt #ドット絵 pic.twitter.com/g952IbIaDf

As for Dragon Ball, Hien tries to go further beyond further beyond Super Saiyan with Goku’s endless hair though that’s not even his final form.
To celebrate the recent release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, he also crafted a new pixel look for Venom as well plus some extra Marvel vs. Capcom inspired color palettes.
