Lady Bulldogs ride three-game winning streak; secure home field for first round of playoffs

    Published 12:50 pm Friday, April 18, 2025

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs had a successful week, winning three games, including wins over a county rival and an area opponent, as well as coming out victorious in an extra-inning battle.

The Lady Bulldogs improved its record to 25-8 on the season with only two games remaining in the regular season with home dates against Luverne on Tuesday and Trinity Presbyterian on Thursday.

With the area victory over Charles Henderson, the Lady Bulldogs won the area and will host the first round of the playoffs on Friday, April 25.

    Andalusia 15, Charles Henderson 0

It took only three innings for the Lady Bulldogs to take care of area opponent Charles Henderson Thursday.

Andalusia scored 10 runs in the first inning and five in the second. Meanwhile, pitcher Kailey Jackson gave up only one hit, while striking out five, in three innings of play.

Jackson also shined at the plate, leading the team with two hits, including a double, and three RBI. McKenzie Barrow also had two hits with two RBI and a run scored. Overall the team had eight hits in 16 plate appearances.

    Andalusia 3, Dothan 2

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs went to Dothan where they battled for an extra-inning win over the Lady Wolves, 3-2.

Andalusia got things going early with a run in the top of the first. Taya Newton led the game off with a single to center and after a sacrifice by Austin Seal, came in to score after a wild pitch followed by a passed ball.

Dothan evened things up in a hurry, leading off their half of the inning with a solo homer to centerfield. They took the lead in the bottom of the single after a pair of singles made the score 2-1.

Pitching and defense dominated the next few innings, but in the top of the fifth, the Lady Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 when Stella Wells, who was hit by a pitch earlier, scored on a ground ball by Sara Katherine Reese.

The two teams struggled to get another run home as the game went into extra innings.

To begin the eighth inning, Seal was placed at second based on extra-inning rules. Reese followed with a line-drive to centerfield and Seal went around the bases to beat the throw to home plate, lifting Andalusia to a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Wolves went three-and-out in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory for Andalusia.

The Lady Bulldogs got another gem from Kailey Jackson in the circle. She pitched the full eight innings giving up two runs on six hits while striking out four.

Seal led the offense, going two-for-three with a run scored. Reese had one hit with two RBI and Newton had a hit and a walk with one run scored.

    Andalusia 10, Florala 0

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs traveled south for an in-county date against the Florala Lady Wildcats and returned home with a 10-0 shutout victory behind a full-game effort of pitcher Kailey Jackson.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improve its overall record to 23-8 on the season.

Andalusia got things going quickly with a leadoff single by Taya Newton started the game. After stealing second, Newton came home on a base hit by Sarah Katherine Reese to take a 1-0 lead.

The offense really got going for the Lady Bulldogs in the top of the third. Newton, who would go four-for-four in the game, once again came through in the leadoff spot, this time starting things off with a double. Austin Seal hit a fly ball that fell for a single. Another fly ball by Reese was misplayed by the defense, bringing Newton home for a 2-0 lead. Seal scored on a single by McKenzie Barrow and Jessa Ann Dubose rounded out the third-inning scoring, coming home on a fielder’s choice play as Andalusia took a 4-0 lead.

Andalusia doubled its score total in the top of the fourth. A fielding error off the bat of Blakelyn Bass, followed by consecutive walks to Newton and Seal, loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly by Dubose brought Newton home, for a 5-0 lead. An error led to the sixth run for the Lady Bulldogs and then a two-out single by Barrow brought in Wood and Dubose.

Newton put an exclamation point on her good day at the plate and rounded out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs with a two-run homer to centerfield.

With her four hits, which included a double and a homerun, Newton had two RBI and scored four runs for Andalusia. Barrow went three-for-four at the plate with a double and three RBI. Seal and Reese each had two hits for Andalusia.

Jackson was dominant on the mound for Andalusia, pitching a complete game shutout and surrendering only one hit over seven innings. She notched nine strikeouts.

  • BREAKING: Suleiman, Young Critic Detained Over Alleged Cyberbullying Of Borno GIS Chief, Freed After Forcing Father To ‘Apologise’

Suleiman Usman, popularly known as Sultan, a young man who was arrested and detained by the police over allegations of cyberbullying and defamation against the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS), Engineer Adam Bababe, has been released.

According to SaharaReporters, Suleiman regained his freedom after his father, Usman Ngari, was compelled to issue a public apology in the wake of the outlet’s earlier report.

Sources revealed that Ngari, also known as Sultan Ibn Usman, was forced to write a letter expressing deep regret and offering an apology for his son’s comments, which were said to have “disrespected” and “damaged the reputation” of Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe.

“Suleiman has been released, but his father was forced to ‘apologise’ following your (SaharaReporters) report, in an apparent move to save face. He was also made to denounce both his son’s actions and the legal efforts initiated by his lawyer to secure Suleiman’s release,” one source told SaharaReporters.

It was gathered that in the letter, Usman Ngari stated that Suleiman’s actions did not reflect the values instilled in him and expressed that his son was remorseful and willing to issue a public apology if required.

Sources further revealed that Ngari was also pressured to distance himself from any legal representation by Hamza Nuhu Dantani, stressing that Dantani acted on his own accord and without the family’s endorsement.

    Background

SaharaReporters earlier on Friday reported that Bababe had used the police to arrest Suleiman on allegations of cyberbullying and defamation.

Sources told SaharaReporters on Thursday that the 26-year-old was arrested on April 12, 2025, over what they described as baseless accusations, insisting he did not commit any act of cyberbullying.

According to a source familiar with the case, Suleiman’s arrest was politically motivated and allegedly directed by Bababe, a known ally of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

“He was arrested on April 12, 2025 by the police commissioner, who is always dancing to the tune of one governor’s ally,” the source claimed.

“One Engr. Adam Bababe, who always directs police to arrest young persons who are not supporting the APC, is behind this. Suleiman is just the latest victim.”

The source further alleged that the police in Borno State, acting under instructions from top political figures, are being used as tools of suppression against dissenting voices, especially young people critical of the APC-led administration.

“This is not about cyberbullying. It’s about silencing a young man who dares to speak his mind. Suleiman didn’t commit any crime. He is being punished for refusing to toe the political line of those in power,” the source added.

When SaharaReporters contacted Adam Bababe, he accused Suleiman of persistent cyberbullying, spreading false allegations, and inciting public tension, which he described as a threat to his life and safety.

“Suleiman has consistently defamed me online,” Bababe stated.

“He has been cyberbullying me, sending false allegations, and continuously creating a security threat to my life. That was basically what pushed me to take legal action.”

Bababe explained that he initially ignored Suleiman’s actions until the individual went further by posting his photograph online with a caption accusing him of being responsible for Borno State’s problems.

“You know what that means in a place like Borno,” he said. “Accusing someone of being behind the insecurity or other issues can endanger their life.”

“The Penal Code in Borno, as reviewed in 2023, identifies defamation of character, cyberbullying, and public incitement as criminal offences. So, I filed a petition based on those provisions. This is not a civil matter. It’s a criminal case,” Bababe said.

Bababe suggested that the root of the online attacks may be tied to resistance against land reforms and anti-corruption efforts introduced by his agency.

Bababe said that when Suleiman was arrested, his lawyer called him to apologise on his behalf and urged Bababe to treat it as a civil matter.

“He said if I felt defamed, I should seek damages in a civil suit. I told him, ‘Fine, I’ll speak with my solicitor,’” Bababe noted.

However, his solicitor informed him that the matter falls under criminal law.

“Defamation, cyberbullying, and incitement — they’re all criminal under the revised Borno Penal Code,” Bababe explained.

But Suleiman’s lawyer persisted, arguing the matter should be civil.

“When he couldn’t convince me, he threatened me,” Bababe claimed.

“He said he would ‘pull me down by whatever means’ and fight for the boy’s rights. I told him, ‘Go ahead — God is with the truthful.’”

However, Bababe clarified that while he might forgive Suleiman personally, the matter was already beyond just him.

“It’s not about whether I grant him bail. That’s the job of the police and the courts. I can only say whether or not I’m withdrawing my case — and I haven’t,” he said.

“Parents are everything. My mother cries when she sees those posts about me. If he has rights, I do too. If I had committed a crime, I would accept it. But I haven’t.”

When asked if he would consider withdrawing the case to ease tensions, Bababe responded, “Tension from who? It’s the lawyer who’s instigating tension. You expect soft words from the opposition? Only a fool expects kindness from an adversary.”

He insisted that no one should be threatened for exercising their rights.

“If this had been the other way around, no one would listen to me. Let’s be honest. But I’ve heard him, and I’ve seen him plead. If it were just between me and him, I’d consider it. But his lawyer said he would destroy me — that’s why I’m pursuing the case to the end.”

Bababe reiterated that he wanted justice, not revenge.

“Let him prove his threat in court. I want this case to be an example. You don’t destroy someone’s life online and walk away like nothing happened,” he said.

  • Nothing CEO Carl Pei Confirms Nothing Phone (3)’s Release Window

Nothing has had a pretty great first quarter so far, thanks to the Phone (3a) series, which brought improvements across the board. However, it has been a bit too long since the company released a proper flagship smartphone. Its last flagship smartphone, the Nothing Phone (2), was released in July 2023, almost two years ago. Well, it looks like the wait will soon be over as Nothing CEO Carl Pei has finally confirmed when the Nothing Phone (3) is launching.

Earlier today, Carl hosted an AMA session on X (formerly Twitter), in which one of the questions was regarding the Nothing Phone (3)‘s release timeline. Carl replied with “Q3,” confirming that users can expect the handset to launch in the months of July, August, or September. Popular tipster Yogesh Brar says the release date could be July 25, 2025.

Previous leaks and rumors, too, suggested that the Nothing Phone (3) launch is slated for the end of July. As of now, we don’t have details about the phone’s specifications, or more importantly, the design. However, we do know from a leaked email, sent by Pei to his employees, that Phone (3) will introduce “breakthrough innovations in user interface.”

Like the Nothing Phone (3a) series (review) betting big on the Essential Space, the email suggests the Phone (3) will also leverage AI to enhance user experience. Since it’s expected to be a high-end smartphone, we can expect flagship-everything, from the SoC to the Cameras. We just hope Nothing doesn’t put the Essential Space behind a paywall on the Phone (3) because that would be a bummer.

What are your expectations from the Nothing Phone (3)’s release? What aspects of the handset are you looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Suspected herdsmen kill 17 in Benue

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Thursday killed 17 persons and injured many others in Logo and Ukum Local Government Areas of Benue State.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Sewuese Anene, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Makurdi.

She said five people were killed in Ukum and 12 in Logo LGAs.

Anene said: “On 17/4/2025 at about 21:00hrs, information was received that a large number of suspected militia had invaded the Sankera axis of Benue State to attack communities around Gbagir, Ukum Local Government Area.

“Upon receipt of this report, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Police Command, CP. Steve Yabanet, ordered tactical teams to move to the area and join forces with police officers on ground and other security agencies to forestall the attack.

“Following this order, a team of officers moved to the area and engaged them. While the attackers were being repelled in the early hours of today, they shot sporadically at unsuspecting farmers as they came across them.

“Five persons were recovered at the Gbagir area and taken to the hospital, where they were confirmed dead.

“Unfortunately, an unsuspected simultaneous attack was carried out in Logo where 12 persons were killed before the arrival of the police, making a total of 17 persons.

“However, security agencies within Sankera axis are still engaging the bandits as they retreat to the forest around the Taraba axis.”

Anene warned social media users reporting unconfirmed reports and inciting the general public to desist from such actions.

  • Washington Lawmakers Condemn Juvenile Justice Reform Failure

    By The Seattle Medium

OLYMPIA, WA — A coalition of Washington state lawmakers has issued a forceful response to the Legislature’s failure to advance a key juvenile justice reform measure, condemning the inaction as a moral and political failure that leaves vulnerable youth trapped in an inhumane system.

In a letter released on April 17, 2025, 28 legislators expressed their deep disappointment over the House’s failure to move forward with Senate Bill 5296, companion to House Bill 1322, which sought to overhaul the state’s juvenile rehabilitation policies. The letter was addressed to incarcerated youth at Green Hill School, community justice advocates, and constituents across Washington.

“For the young people trapped in a system that prioritizes incarceration over rehabilitation, this is more than a missed opportunity — it’s a moral failure,” the lawmakers wrote.

The signatories include Reps. Davina Duerr, Natasha Hill, Steve Berquist, Beth Doglio, Tarra Simmons, Adam Bernbaum, Sharlett Mena, Jamila Taylor, Edwin Obras, Brianna Thomas, Julia Reed, Julio Cortes, Debra Lekanoff, My-Linh Thai, Shaun Scott, April Berg, Brandy Donaghy, Darya Farivar, Debra Entenman, Chris Stearns, Osman Salahuddin, Sharon Wylie, Shelley Kloba, Strom Peterson, and others who pledged continued advocacy.

The lawmakers criticized the status quo at Green Hill School, a juvenile detention facility where many of them have visited, noting disturbing conditions such as overcrowding, limited access to basic services, and long hours of isolation.

“We’ve listened to the youth who are confined there. We’ve heard from the staff who show up every day in overcrowded, under-resourced conditions. What we’ve seen is not justice.”

Their statement highlighted the stark racial disparities in the system, where Black, Brown, and Native youth are sentenced nearly four times more often than white peers. Many are held in cells for up to 22 hours a day, with little access to programming, education, or even regular bathroom use.

“This isn’t just a policy failure — it’s a humanitarian one,” said one of the letter’s authors, noting that current conditions violate both principles of equity and common sense.

The letter emphasized that proven solutions already exist. Approaches that keep youth connected to their families, schools, and communities have demonstrated far better outcomes than incarceration. Allowing judges greater discretion to consider the full context of a child’s life — rather than focusing solely on the offense — was central to the proposed legislation.

“When judges have discretion to look at the whole child — not just the crime — we open doors to appropriate accountability, treatment, supervision, and healing.”

The lawmakers argued that failure to pass the bill contradicts the Legislature’s professed commitment to racial equity and investment in marginalized communities. “These aren’t optional values — they are fundamental,” the letter stated. “And yet, yesterday, we did not uphold them.”

Despite the setback, the legislators remain committed to pushing forward. They announced plans to continue developing the policies outlined in SB 5296 and HB 1322 during the interim period, including measures to reduce racial disparities, expand community-based alternatives to detention, and invest in restorative justice frameworks.

“We are committed not only to our youth, but to the future in which we claim to believe.”

They closed the letter with a call to empathy and action, urging fellow lawmakers and the public to recognize the shared humanity of the youth in the system.

“There are not many things that separate us from the young people in juvenile rehabilitation facilities. What brought us to Olympia — opportunity, community, and someone who believed in our potential — should be the same for them. Every child deserves that chance.”

  • Luke Littler makes request for Harry Maguire following dramatic win

Manchester United booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals thanks to a dramatic late winner from Harry Maguire in extra time against Lyon.

Old Trafford witnessed a nine-goal thriller on Thursday night.

United edged past the French side 5-4 in a game packed with drama.

The game included a red card and multiple comebacks.

The Red Devils looked down and out when Alexandre Lacazette put Lyon 4-2 ahead in the 109th minute.

However, a late rally saw them turn the tie around.

Bruno Fernandes halved the deficit from the penalty spot in the 114th minute.

That was before substitute Kobbie Mainoo equalised just six minutes later.

With penalties looming, Harry Maguire climbed highest in the 121st minute to head home the winner and send United into the Europa League semi-final 7-6 on aggregate.

Among the supporters glued to the action was world darts champion and proud United fan Luke Littler.

Despite usually being occupied with darts fixtures during Europa League nights, Littler was following every moment of the quarter-final decider.

Luke Littler sends request to Harry Maguire after netting winner

After Maguire’s dramatic extra-time header, Littler took to Instagram with a light-hearted request for the defender.

Sharing a clip of the goal, Littler wrote: “@harrymaguire93 can you wear the no9 next year please sir u beauty [love heart eyes emoji].”

Maguire soon responded by reposting Littler’s message on his Instagram story, adding four laughing emojis.

The centre-back started the match in defence but was pushed further forward by Ruben Amorim during extra time with United chasing the game.

It proved an inspired decision as Maguire delivered the decisive goal.

Even though few would have expected Amorim to rely on a centre-back to win such a high-stakes match.

United’s injury-hit forward line left the manager short of option.

Joshua Zirkzee is sidelined and only Rasmus Hojlund is available as a recognised striker.

Kobbie Mainoo, who has shown promise in the false nine role, also played his part with the equaliser against Lyon.

Amorim will be hoping for more contributions like Maguire’s as United aim to go all the way in the Europa League this season.

  • NGOs Received Billions From EU Commission to Lobby for Leftist Causes

NGOs Received Billions From EU Commission to Lobby for Leftist Causes

Thousands of NGOs were funded with taxpayer cash to promote so-called EU values and advance left-wing causes ~Germany’s Focus magazine

    BREITBART

Corruption concerns have been raised amid an investigation into the billions handed out from the EU to NGOs, allegedly in exchange for lobbying efforts on behalf of the European Commission to advance left-wing causes such as the green agenda.

The European Court of Auditors has found that between 2021 and 2023, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) received a total of €7.4 ($8.4) billion from the EU, including 4.8 billion euros from the governing Commission and another 2.6 billion euros from member states.

Thousands of NGOs were funded with taxpayer cash to promote so-called EU values and advance left-wing causes on immigration, environmentalism, and even lobbying for the ban on combustion engine cars, Germany’s Focus magazine reported.

The Court of Auditors report, which found that there was “no reliable overview of EU funding granted to NGOs”,  raised concerns that some such organisations were disguising themselves as NGOs to lobby politicians on behalf of their own economic interests while claiming to be non-profits or by government actors using the groups to advance their own ends clandestinely.

An unnamed research facility in the textile and cosmetics industry, which claimed to be an NGO to receive EU funding, was identified by the Court of Auditors as having pursued the “business interests of its predominantly for-profit members” while maintaining a non-profit status.

The watchdog report found: “Across EU countries, the definition of what an NGO is varies, and is rarely enshrined in national legislation. In 2024, the EU essentially defined an NGO as being independent from government and a non-profit organisation. While this is a step in the right direction, the definition alone cannot ensure that NGOs are correctly classified in the EU’s financial transparency system.

“This is because entities self-declare as NGOs, and the Commission does not check important aspects of their status, including whether a government exerts significant influence over their governing bodies or whether an NGO pursues its members’ commercial interests.”

The investigation was launched following the Qatargate scandal, which broke in 2022. Mostly leftist European Parliament representatives and officials have been accused of accepting bribes and other perks from the Islamic kingdom of Qatar as well as from Morocco and Mauritania to promote their agendas within the EU. It has been claimed that some of the payments allegedly given to Eurocrats were funnelled through NGOs.
