  • BREAKING: Nigerian Police Extradite Fugitive Suspect “Killaboi” From Qatar For Killing Female Undergraduate

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the successful extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, widely known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar to Nigeria.

A statement on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the fugitive, who had been on the run for the murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, was returned to the country in the early hours of Saturday, 19th April 2025.

The police said this was through the coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Force Headquarters Abuja and the Qatari Judicial Authorities.

According to Adejobi, the extradition of Nnayereugo, followed a petition from the family of the deceased, submitted through their legal representatives dated 29th September 2024. The matter was assigned to INTERPOL NCB Abuja for  investigation.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect, Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, murdered Miss Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, at his residence located at No. 24A Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos, on 13th July 2023.

“After committing the crime, he fled Nigeria and later released an online video purporting to confess to the act, a deceptive strategy to derail investigative efforts.”

The statement noted that following his declaration as wanted by the NPF Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on 13th October 2023, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued for his global apprehension.

“He was initially arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on 20th October 2023 under the false identity “KANU PRINCETON SAMUEL,” but escaped custody during a prison break on 26th November 2023 in Feeetown.

“Further intelligence gathering revealed that the suspect continued to evade law enforcement, traversing multiple regions including West Africa, East Asia and the Middle East, under forged identities before eventually relocating to Doha, Qatar on 24th January, 2025. Operating under the alias “TOURE ABDOULAYE” with a fraudulent Guinean passport, he secured illegal employment and concealed his identity.

“Through robust international cooperation and the use of advanced biometrics, INTERPOL NCB Abuja, in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Doha, confirmed his identity, leading to his arrest by Qatari authorities in February 2025. An official extradition request, processed via the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abuja, was subsequently approved by the Qatari judicial authorities, resulting in his repatriation to Nigeria.”

The Force Spokesman, quoted the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to have commended the diligence of INTERPOL NCB Abuja in the arrest, while recognising the strength in the synergy amongst nations to curb trans-border crimes.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Honorable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Government of Qatar, INTERPOL NCB Doha, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their invaluable collaboration in securing the fugitive’s return.

“We assure the general public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring that the suspect faces diligent prosecution, as part of the NPF’s dedication to justice and the safety of all Nigerians,” IGP Egbetokun was quoted to have said.

  • Rematch First Impressions: Sloclap Breaks the Deadlock With Beauty

Sloclap is the mastermind behind the blockbuster beat ’em up game, Sifu. Sifu became one of my favorite games of all time, to the point I was pulling off no-death runs after mastering the combat. Hence, I was looking forward to the next big game from the Parisian studio and was utterly blown away when they announced a multiplayer football game as their next title. As someone who lives and breathes football, I feel that this game is like a match made in heaven for me.

Now, here we are with the Sloclap studio rolling out beta access for their Rematch game. Luckily, I got a code and put in a couple of hours chasing my victories with the ball. If you are curious about how good the new football game is, here are my first impressions of Sloclap’s Rematch.

    Rematch Gameplay Overview

First, here is a brief overview of Rematch that everyone should know about. Rematch is a multiplayer football game played from a third-person perspective. Instead of a traditional football game with two 11-player teams going head-to-head in a match, Rematch offers a 5v5 experience like a futsal game.

Image Credit: Sloclap (via Sloclap Presskit)

While competitive mode only has a 5v5 option, quick play mode currently includes a 4v4 mode, and the devs have stated that a 3v3 mode will also be added. Therefore, you can team up with your friends or join the random online players to clash against a team to secure the victory.

Each match lasts around six minutes, and the team that scores the most goals wins. Pretty football, like? Also, if you can score four goals without letting the opponent score one, you can quickly take the win home. If the score is a tie, the match will go into overtime to determine the ultimate winner. Moreover, there are no fouls or offside in the game, similar to FIFA’s “No Rules” mode.

Rematch is a pure online game, and there isn’t a single-player campaign mode you can play offline at the moment. However, you can access the freeplay and workshop to hone your footballing skills offline.

If you have played Rocket League before, you might already be familiar with Rematch’s gameplay. Although this game has been inspired by Rocket League and FIFA’s street football modes, Sloclap has added its own twist to offer an incredibly entertaining and flashy football experience. Let me break it down for you below:

    Basics

There are no fixed roles in Rematch; players have the freedom to choose their roles by strategizing with their teammates. For example, if you are currently a striker and want to defend as a goalkeeper, you can fall back near the goal post to turn into a goalkeeper.

The positions are also randomly rotated after a goal is scored. Similar to any other football game, you have various passing and shooting options for attack, as well as normal and slide tackles in defense. Goalkeepers also have a set of defending options, such as diving and sliding. In addition, the player can also use the walls around them to create versatile shots.

Although the control button mapping feels a bit messy right now, controlling the player, both with and without the ball, feels super snappy, as they have nailed the player animations. The footy games are extremely fast-paced, with time running against you. Based on my time with the current beta state of the game, Rematch’s gameplay is highly responsive, and I’m eager to experience the complete edition.

    Endurance Wins You Games

Image Credit: Sloclap (via in-game screenshot by Ajithkumar/Beebom)

The developers had added a concise stamina bar that you need to keep your eyes on closely if you want to perform well. Every move you make costs you a piece of your stamina, and can be recharged once you stay put. In addition to the regular stamina bar, you can build up a stamina boost as you move to sprint faster than your regular run. It’s a tiny yet welcoming addition that comes in handy when you need the extra push to score or defend wisely in the game.

    Rematch’s Skill Ceiling

The developers have also done a good job simplifying the game’s movesets. For instance, you can easily perform flashy skill moves such as Rainbow Flick, Rabona, etc., with a simple button combo. As a hardcore football fan, I’ve played almost all football video games from older FIFA titles to the latest ones. Although I haven’t been involved in the competitive scene, I was still skilled enough to beat my friends in the game. So, I can say Rematch has a moderately high skill ceiling at the moment.

Image Credit: Sloclap (via in-game screenshot by Ajithkumar/Beebom)

Coming from FIFA, the control here feels a bit strange, but I hope the developers add the complete button remapping option soon. Furthermore, controlling the shooting and passing angle with the right analog stick doesn’t stick with me at the moment. However, I feel that players can get used to it by slowly mastering the game.

    Visuals and Performance

Rematch First Impressions: Sloclap Breaks the Deadlock With Beauty
Image Credit: Sloclap (via in-game screenshot by Ajithkumar/Beebom)

One look at the game and I can tell that the art style and environment design of the Rematch game is very reminiscent of their previous title, Sifu. I’m in awe of the game’s vibrant visuals. As a wall of displays surrounds the players, the breathtaking scenery changes with every goal scored.

This is an excellent move by the developers to keep the visuals eye-pleasing and also keep you refreshed throughout the game. Currently, only three landscapes are available in the beta: Lush Forest, Coliseum Night, and a Scorching Desert scape. I look forward to more of these magnificent settings in-game. As for the testing, here is the gaming rig that I tested Rematch on:

    My Setup:

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D @4.20 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
    RAM: 32 GB (2×16) DDR5 @6000MHz
    SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 1TB
    Monitor: 1440p @170Hz

On the performance side, the game runs excellently without any stutters despite being a Unreal Engine 5 title. I cranked up the settings to ultra, and the game consistently hit 120 FPS while playing in 2K resolution without any upscaling. So, we don’t have to worry about the performance once the complete edition comes out, either.

Verdict: A Solid Goal But Needs a Bit More Shine

    Closeup of ball in Rematch
Image Credit: Sloclap (via Sloclap Presskit)

If you’ve been following the football game scene, you know it has reached a stalemate. Now, Sloclap has come up with a multiplayer football game jam-packed with frenetic gameplay and spectacular visuals that feels like a fresh breath of air in the crowded sports genre. Several areas need improvement, such as camera angles, netcode, and servers, to eliminate glitches.

I had a joyful experience with my friends in custom matches, but playing with randoms online went the other way around. The game has a relatively high learning curve, which is fun to master for every football fan. The beta version of the Rematch game shows great promise and is perfectly tailored for football lovers like me.

The only concern for many gamers is the 30$ price tag. It is a fair price for a multiplayer game, and it’s definitely not a pay-to-win game in any way. However, we have to wait and see if the match resonates well with the general audience like it does with the football community right now.

If Sloclap can perfect the much-needed improvements, then Rematch has all the potential to rise to prominence in the sports gaming scene. That said, how are you finding Rematch? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Amid complaints, Nigerian govt shuts Akanu Ibiam Int’l Airport for emergency runway repair

The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has announced the temporary closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, for emergency runway repairs.

This development was announced by Mrs Obiageli Orah, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the agency in a statement posted on its X platform early on Saturday morning, April 19, 2025.

Earlier, Nigerian airline, Air Peace, had announced the suspension of all flights to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, citing safety concerns over the condition of the airport’s runway.

In a statement released on Friday, April 18, 2025 and signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, the airline said it was compelled to halt operations into Enugu due to persistent runway issues that have been causing major disruptions to its flights.

“We regret to inform you that all flights scheduled to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu are temporarily suspended due to safety concerns,” the statement read.

“The situation of the Enugu runway has been causing major disruptions to Air Peace flights, hence the decision to temporarily suspend further flights into this airport until further notice.”

Reacting to this, FAAN has now closed the airport disclosing that there is a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.

“Hence, emergency repairs will be conducted on that portion of the runway from April 22nd to May 6th, 2025.

“In compliance with Nigerian civil aviation regulations, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has, therefore, closed the runway during this period.

“As part of FAAN’s commitment to passenger safety and the modernisation of airport facilities, the runway will not be open for landings or takeoffs during the rehabilitation period.

“FAAN appeals to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this time. All flights to this airport will be diverted to nearby airports. We sincerely apologise for the late and unexpected notice regarding this closure. FAAN” the statement noted.

A former Manchester United midfielder, who was part of the treble-winning squad in 1999, has been cautioned by police.

Nicky Butt, who played 387 games for the Red Devils between 1992 and 2004, allegedly head-butted a security guard at his 50th birthday party, according to The Sun.

The guard reportedly suffered a broken nose after a row broke out between the two, resulting in the attack.

Butt was charged with actual bodily harm and accepted the criminal sanction last month, also agreeing to donate to charity.

According to The Sun, a source said:  “There was blood everywhere. People were shocked as the guard came inside with his face a mess. It ruined a lovely day.”

David and Victoria Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Gary Neville were also reportedly in attendance at the party, which took place in Oxfordshire.

Butt made his way through the Manchester United academy, eventually making his debut in 1992.

He would go on to star for Sir Alex Ferguson’s iconic teams, starting in the Champions League final in 1999, where United scored two goals in stoppage time to beat Bayern Munich.

Butt would leave Manchester United in 2004, having won six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup.

He would go on to play for Newcastle United, Birmingham City, and South China Athletic Association, a club based in Hong Kong, until his retirement in 2011.

Butt would return to Old Trafford in 2012, taking on various roles in the academy, before his second departure in 2021.

In 2014, it was announced that the Englishman would be one of the former Manchester United players purchasing non-league club Salford City.

The club have rose through the ranks under the guise of new ownership, now playing their football in League Two.

He would become chief executive officer in 2022, but would later step down to pursue coaching opportunities.

  • Half of the universe’s missing matter found

Astronomers have struggled to account for all normal matter in the universe, with over half missing since the Big Bang 13.6 billion years ago. New measurements suggest this missing matter is found more extensively in diffuse ionized hydrogen gas halos surrounding galaxies than previously thought.

These findings resolve a conflict between observations and models of the universe’s evolution while revealing that black holes at galaxy centers may eject gas much farther than expected—up to five times farther. Presented by a team of 75 scientists, the study is undergoing peer review and highlights an important step toward understanding the universe’s matter distribution.

Dark matter constitutes about 84% of the universe’s matter and remains a mystery. The remaining 16% is normal matter, with only 7% forming stars. The rest exists as invisible hydrogen gas, mostly ionized, spread across galaxies and filaments that form a vast cosmic web.

This ionized gas and its associated electrons are known as the warm-hot intergalactic medium. It is too cold and diffuse to detect with standard astronomical techniques, making it elusive until recent discoveries shed light on its presence.

The most accurate map of all the matter in the Universe

Researchers estimated the distribution of ionized hydrogen gas around galaxies by analyzing data from around 7 million luminous red galaxies located within 8 billion light-years of Earth. They measured the kinematic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect, which tracks slight changes in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) caused by electrons in the ionized gas. The CMB is a cosmic “backlight,” revealing the unseen gas.

Galaxy data was collected by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) on the Mayall Telescope in Arizona, which is creating a 3D map of the universe to study dark energy. CMB measurements were made by the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) in Chile, which was known for its precise CMB observations before its decommissioning in 2022.

The analysis, conducted with teams from DESI, ACT, Stanford University, and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, advances the understanding of ionized gas distribution in the universe.

Astronomers once believed that massive black holes at galaxy centers expelled gas only during their early phases, known as active galactic nuclei (AGN) or quasars. However, a new study suggests that the more diffuse and extensive ionized hydrogen halos around galaxies indicate that black holes may also become active later in their lives in duty cycles.

This expulsion and return of gas, called feedback, regulates star formation in galaxies. Earlier hints of extended feedback were found in 2020, but the new study covers more galaxies with precise measurements. It also reveals that gas isn’t evenly distributed but follows cosmic filaments across the universe.

Current galaxy evolution models must now account for this more vigorous feedback. Identifying the missing matter in the universe, or baryons is crucial to addressing key questions in cosmology, such as the role of gas in cosmic evolution.

The expulsion of gas from massive galaxy cores challenges the idea that gas closely follows dark matter, potentially resolving inconsistencies in cosmological models, including issues about the universe’s clumpiness. Many astronomers are eager to explore this data further to understand galaxy formation and evolution.

The researchers measured this gas using the kinematic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect, a technique that could also help study the early universe. This approach may reveal insights into the large-scale structure of the cosmos and early physical laws and provide a way to test gravity and general relativity.
