  • Two actors d!e after shooting movie in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the death of two yet-to-be-identified actors in Owerri, the state capital, after eating rice and drinking wine on Friday, April 18.

News broke out on Friday night that four actors were rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri, where two were pronounced de@d on arrival. The two deceased persons and others had, after shooting a movie, eaten rice and drunk wine that was provided by the unnamed movie director, during a house party.

Two of them were discovered de@d in the wee hours of Friday.

Leadership reports that a source, Kaito Karisia, had said the movie director who provided the meal and drinks was said to have gone to bed early, leaving the four actors and three ladies partying. He, however, woke up in the early hours of Friday to turn off the power generator and return to a public power supply to discover the two already dead and the other two gasping for their lives.

Karisia said the two other male survivors were responding to treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri, where they were rushed to.

According to him, one of the survivors told him that, “Their host (the movie director) offered them rice and everybody ate. He later presented them with a bottle of Calypso and wine. But they only took a sip and never drank again. However, the two other guys who are now dead finished the drink”.

The movie director and the three girls in the apartment have been arrested and are answering questions, while the investigation continues.

The death toll in Thursday’s attacks by suspected herdsmen on Ukum and Logo local government areas in Benue State has increased to 56.

The attackers in the early hours of that day stormed communities in the two LGAs and killed 17 people.

Several people were also injured in the attacks.

Governor Hyacinth Alia visited the scenes to assess the impact of the attacks on Saturday.

In a chat with journalists at the affected communities, the governor urged the Federal Government to deal with rising insecurity in the state.

He condemned the violent attacks on the defenseless people and called for greater action from security agencies to check the killings.

Alia urged the people to resist the temptation of taking the laws into their own hands.

  • Chelsea still considering Manchester United superstar

Rumours are starting to swirl ahead of the summer transfer window, with Manchester United set to be very active.

Ruben Amorim will expect transfer chiefs to open the purse strings considerably to bolster his squad in several positions, as he looks to improve on a lacklustre first six months in charge.

One position of interest is the striker, with additional goals needed to see Manchester United rise up the league table.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to deliver this season, leading to fresh links to Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike.

A winger could also be on the target list, as well as a reliable centre-half and a younger player to aid United’s aging midfield.

Despite Amorim’s desire for fresh faces at Old Trafford, it is likely that departures may also be required.

One departure could be that of Alejandro Garnacho, who attracted interest from Chelsea in January.

And according to transfer guru David Ornstein, that interest has not yet gone away, and the Argentinian is still among Chelsea’s options this summer.

The London club were heavily linked in January, but a move did not materialise.

And it is unclear whether the Red Devils would be willing to let their winger go, especially given the youngster’s rise through the Manchester United academy.

First breaking through in 2022, Garnacho has made 136 appearances in the last three years, scoring 21 goals in that time.

He has drawn criticism at times this season, but has registered 10 goals and nine assists amid a nightmare season for United.

Significantly, Garnacho would be likely to fetch a considerable fee if he is to leave Old Trafford this summer, but Amorim must weigh up whether letting the speedster go would be worth it.

  • Peter Thiel Explains How DOGE Is Exposing ‘Left-Wing NGOs’

Peter Thiel Explains How DOGE Is Exposing ‘Left-Wing NGOs’

So much of this left-wing philanthropy nonprofit world was just a cover for borderline criminal activity.”

(ZH) – Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel detailed that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) exposed rampant federal spending tied to certain left-leaning NGOs, which he described as potential fronts for “borderline criminal activity.”

Thiel, founding partner of the venture capital firm Founders Fund, made the explosive claims during an interview with his Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale.

I think there were scams. I think the nonprofit stuff is out of control. It’s sort of like virtue signaling is a sign that you’re doing something evil,” Thiel told Lonsdale on his American Optimist podcast. “So much of this left-wing philanthropy nonprofit world was just a cover for borderline criminal activity.”

That’s how you shield yourself—you put a virtue signal up while you’re stealing money from everyone,” Lonsdale replied.

Thiel pulled back the curtain on the murky world of government spending, exposing how vague budget descriptions can mask the true destination of taxpayer dollars.

“There’s all the stuff you’d have to really go into the weeds of how it works, but the way it was explained to me, there’s a level five description, which is a line item description of what the actual dollars are going to. Then there are ways these things get summarized. The way they got summarized for a lot of the political appointees was a level four description, where you summarize a bunch of level five descriptions in a level four way,” Thiel explained. “You can have 20 groups providing food to different African countries, and you can summarize that as food to Africa. That’s maybe an accurate description. But if they’re actually all working on the Biden re-election, that’s an inaccurate description. At some point, the descriptions are so inaccurate that the people in the government could be prosecuted for fraud.”

Thiel then argued that fraud in government spending could warrant criminal prosecution for countless officials, drawing a stark parallel to the Iran-Contra scandal that ensnared Oliver North in the 1980s.

One of the people who looked at this a lot thinks you could just prosecute these people for fraud. This is something like what Oliver North was prosecuted for in the Iran-Contra scandal in the 80s,” Thiel said. “He mischaracterized the money, mislabeled it, and was accused of defrauding the government. I think you could prosecute thousands of these people criminally for the thing they wanted to prosecute Oliver North for in the 80s.”

Thiel joins President Donald Trump and DOGE leader Elon Musk as the latest prominent voice warning about rampant fraud inside the government. In recent weeks, Trump teased to reporters aboard Air Force One, “They found something today that’s horrible,” adding. “You’ll find out very soon. What they found is incredible.”

Recently, Elon Musk and DOGE volunteer Antonio Gracias revealed that millions of noncitizens were issued Social Security numbers during the Biden administration. Their data, presented in a chart during a Wisconsin rally aimed at boosting voter turnout, showed a steady annual increase, peaking at over 2 million in FY 2024, which ended on September 30. In both FY 2023 and FY 2025—the latter beginning in October and running through September of this year—roughly 1 million noncitizens received Social Security numbers.

“None of this would have happened without President Trump,” Gracias told Fox News. “President Trump had the courage to allow us to go across databases. He signed an executive order. It’s never been done before, where agencies could talk to each other and databases could talk with each other.”

“That allowed us to connect all this data, to find these people across the system, across the benefit system, all the way to the voting records. It really took a lot of courage,” he added.

  • Michelle Trachtenberg died from complications of diabetes, medical examiner says

The cause of death of Michelle Trachtenberg, who was found dead in her luxury Midtown Manhattan apartment in February, has been determined, the Daily News has learned.

The actor died from complications of diabetes, according to the New York City’s Medical Examiner’s Office.

Trachtenberg, 39, was found unresponsive by her mother in her apartment near Columbus Circle around 8 a.m. on Feb. 26. Her mom called 911, and responding EMS medics declared Trachtenberg dead at the scene, police said.

Her death is not considered suspicious, police sources said.

Trachtenberg starred as an actress in “Gossip Girl,” “Harriet the Spy” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” among others.

Neighbors in her building were shocked by the star’s death at the time of her passing.

“She was cool, she was a normal person,” said neighbor Raphael Noufele. “It’s a bit of a shock.”

Photos of Trachtenberg on social media appearing frail and gaunt drew concerns from fans that she was in ill health or battling addiction. In January, she responded to fans’ concerns by saying she was happy and healthy.

“I’ve received several comments recently about my appearance,” she wrote on Instagram. “I have never had plastic surgery I am happy and healthy. Check yourself haters.”

  • Easter: Putin Orders Ceasefire In Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary, unilateral Easter ceasefire in Ukraine, instructing his military to halt all operations from 6 p.m local time on Saturday until the end of Sunday.

The decision, he said, is based on humanitarian considerations.

“I order a stop to all military activities for this period,” Putin told his top military commander, Valery Gerasimov, during a meeting at the Kremlin.

Putin reiterated that while the ceasefire is in place, Russian forces remain ready to respond to any “aggressive actions” from the Ukrainian side.

“We assume that Ukraine will follow our example. At the same time, our troops should be prepared to repel possible violations of the truce and provocations by the enemy,” Putin said, according to BBC.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence confirmed the ceasefire in a statement, saying it had instructed all commanders involved in its “special military operation” to suspend combat operations during the truce period.

The ministry emphasised the ceasefire would take effect only if Ukraine reciprocates.

There has been no immediate response from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky or his administration.

Zelensky had on Friday, condemned Russian attacks across the country, calling out missile and drone strikes that targeted civilians and infrastructure.

The ceasefire declaration comes amid international efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to broker a broader peace agreement.

Trump, speaking on Friday, expressed frustration over the stalled negotiations, stating the U.S. would “take a pass” on mediating further if either side proves unwilling to compromise.

“We want peace and we want it fast,” Trump told reporters, although he admitted he didn’t expect a resolution “in a specific number of days.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed that sentiment, warning the U.S. might step back from peace efforts if no tangible progress is made soon.

While Ukraine has already signaled willingness to accept a U.S.-brokered 30-day ceasefire, Russia was yet to formally agree, instead imposing conditions that have delayed negotiations.

  • How Warriors match up with Rockets: Position by position breakdown

HOUSTON – Weaknesses will be difficult to find in the Warriors’ first-round Western Conference playoff series against the second-seeded Houston Rockets.

Neither team has a glaring weak spot, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t advantages.

Here’s how Golden State (48-34) stacks up against Houston (52-30) at each position – plus coaching – ahead of Game 1 on Sunday:

    POINT GUARD

    Warriors: Steph Curry

    Rockets: Fred VanVleet, Aaron Holiday

Breakdown: VanVleet (14.1 points per game) is a solid starting point guard who helped beat Curry’s Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals as a member of the Toronto Raptors. But Curry (24.5 ppg) is arguably the greatest point guard of all time and still plays at an elite level. There’s just no comparison.

    Advantage: Warriors

    SHOOTING GUARD

    Warriors: Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield

    Rockets: Jalen Green

Breakdown: Podziemski (11.7 ppg) appeared to be breaking out offensively before hitting a brief slump in the last week of the season, and Hield (203 made 3-pointers) is a mercurial off-the-bench shooter who can go for 30 in any game. However, Jalen Green (21 ppg) is a bonafide scorer with a 40-inch vertical who has also shown a willingness to defend and pass. Green’s higher ceiling gives him a slight edge.

    Advantage: Rockets

    SMALL FORWARD

    Warriors: Moses Moody

    Rockets: Amen Thompson, Tari Eason

Breakdown: Moses Moody (9.8 ppg, 0.8 steals per game) has been the team’s top stopper on the perimeter and has remained a dangerous 3-and-D scorer next to his more ball-dominant teammates. However, Amen Thompson (14.1 ppg, 1.4 spg, 1.3 blocks per game) is arguably the best 1-through-4 defender in the league and has a blossoming offensive game built around his generational athleticism. Tari Eason is also a versatile defensive forward.

    Advantage: Rockets

Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson (1) dunks over Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, center, and Rockets guard Jalen Green, left, during the first half of an NBA basketball game Thursday, April 4, 2024, in Houston. (AP Photo/Michael Wyke)

    POWER FORWARD

Warriors: Jimmy Butler, Gui Santos, Jonathan Kuminga

    Rockets: Dillon Brooks, Jabari Smith

Breakdown: “Playoff Jimmy” – who scored 38 points in the Warriors’ play-in victory against Memphis – is one of the great postseason performers of his generation and one of the few stars in the league capable of taking over a game by himself. Brooks (14.0 ppg) and Smith are good players, but there’s an appreciable gap. Santos (1.3 offensive rebounds per game) is also a wildcard on the offensive glass, and Kuminga’s athleticism could be a factor if he gets playing time.

    Advantage: Warriors

    CENTER

Warriors: Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, Quinten Post

    Rockets: Alperen Sengun, Steven Adams

  • Daigo Umehara explains why he isn’t switching from Akuma despite Ryu’s recent successes in Street Fighter 6… for now

BST|Daigo Umehara recently made the bold declaration that he is planning to quit streaming at some point this year. Doing so will allow him to focus solely on his competitive career that’s currently centered around Street Fighter 6.

Leading up to this, we saw events in which 2G|Blaz and Mouz|EndingWalker were able to come in second place at Capcom Cup 11 and Red Bull Kumite 2025 respectively. The interesting thing about these achievements is that both players were able to place at major tournaments using Ryu, a character that was previously being regarded as one of the weaker combatants in Street Fighter 6.

A new perception of Ryu is beginning to manifest within the competitive Street Fighter 6 community. Could this be a good time for a player like Daigo to finally switch to Ryu?

“When people ask me why I don’t Ryu, I always say he has bad match ups, like JP, Dhalsim, and Guile. But surprisingly enough, Ryu players are beating these characters now. This means he’s a strong character now.” — Daigo Umehara

Recently, Daigo revealed that he still intends to stick with Akuma for the time being. Though Daigo does acknowledge that there are some merits to switching to Ryu over Akuma, he believes that it would be more prudent for him to stick with the more complex character rather than switching to a simple one.

“I think Ryu is a pretty strong character now,” stated Daigo. “When people ask me why I don’t Ryu, I always say he has bad match ups, like JP, Dhalsim, and Guile.”

“But surprisingly enough, Ryu players are beating these characters now,” continued Daigo. “This means he’s a strong character now. But I really think I can go back to Ryu at anytime.”

Of course, Ryu has always been designed to be a simple character to pick up, even if he is a little difficult to master. Meanwhile, Akuma is the type of character that requires quite the commitment for those that wish to master his complexities. Due to his low health, there’s always little room for error when playing as Akuma.

“You might think I’m underestimating Ryu for saying this, but I don’t think Ryu is doing anything extremely complicated. That’s why I think I can go back to Ryu at anytime.” — Daigo Umehara

“You might think I’m underestimating Ryu for saying this, but I don’t think Ryu is doing anything extremely complicated,” said Daigo. “That’s why I think I can go back to Ryu at anytime. The same goes for Ken.”

“But when it comes to Akuma, let’s say I stopped playing Akuma, and I switch to Ryu or Ken,” continued Daigo. “Then Akuma gets buffed, let’s say. It’s impossible to come back to Akuma. The difficulty is completely different.”

It’s interesting that Daigo thinks that Akuma could receive some buffs in the future. Meanwhile, Daigo is of the opinion that Ryu won’t be receiving any share of buffs anytime soon due to his recent successes.

Of course, Daigo is also open to the possibility of Akuma getting nerfed. Daigo says that he’s open to switching to another character if that scenario plays out.
