  • Nigerian punter, Killaboi arrested in Doha, extradited to Nigeria

‎The Nigeria Police Force has successfully completed the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, widely known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria.

A statement released today by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson of the force, says the fugitive, who had been on the run for the murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, was returned to the country in the early hours of today, Saturday, 19th April 2025, through the coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Force Headquarters Abuja and the Qatari Judicial Authorities.

Adejobi added that the extradition followed a petition from the family of the deceased, submitted through their legal representatives, dated 29th September 2024. The matter was assigned to INTERPOL NCB Abuja for investigation.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, murdered Miss Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, at his residence located at No. 24a Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos, on 13th July 2023. After committing the crime, he fled Nigeria and later released an online video purporting to confess to the act, a deceptive strategy to derail investigative efforts.

‎”‎Following his declaration as wanted by the NPF Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on 13th October 2023, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued for his global apprehension. He was initially arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on 20th October 2023 under the false identity “KANU PRINCETON SAMUEL,” but escaped custody during a prison break on 26th November 2023 in Feeetown.

Further intelligence gathering revealed that the suspect continued to evade law enforcement, traversing multiple regions including West Africa, East Asia and the Middle East, under forged identities before eventually relocating to Doha, Qatar on 24th January, 2025. Operating under the alias “TOURE ABDOULAYE” with a fraudulent Guinean passport, he secured illegal employment and concealed his identity.”

‎Through robust international cooperation and the use of advanced biometrics, INTERPOL NCB Abuja, in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Doha, confirmed his identity, leading to his arrest by Qatari authorities in February 2025. An official extradition request, processed via the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abuja, was subsequently approved by the Qatari judicial authorities, resulting in his repatriation to Nigeria.

‎The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, while recognising the strength in the synergy amongst nations to curb trans-border crimes, commended the diligence of INTERPOL NCB Abuja and extended sincere appreciation to the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Government of Qatar, INTERPOL NCB Doha, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their invaluable collaboration in securing the fugitive’s return.

‎The Inspector-General of Police further assured the general public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring that the suspect faces diligent prosecution, as part of the NPF’s dedication to justice and the safety of all Nigerians.

  • IMF recommends tight monetary policy to lower Nigeria’s inflation

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday called for a tight monetary policy to firmly lower Nigeria’s inflation.

IMF’s mission chief for Nigeria, Axel Schimmelpfennig, made the call in a statement following his visit to hold discussions for the 2025 Article IV Consultations with Nigeria.

Schimmelpfennig led an IMF team to Lagos and Abuja from April 2 to 15.

He said: “The Nigerian authorities have taken important steps to stabilise the economy, enhance resilience, and support growth.

“The financing of the fiscal deficit by the central bank has ceased, costly fuel subsidies were removed, and the functioning of the foreign exchange market has improved.

“Gains have yet to benefit all Nigerians as poverty and food insecurity remain high.

“The outlook is marked by significant uncertainty. Elevated global risk sentiment and lower oil prices impact the Nigerian economy.”

He said the reforms since 2023 had put the Nigerian economy in a better position to navigate the external environment.

“Looking ahead, macroeconomic policies are needed to further strengthen buffers and resilience while creating enabling conditions for private sector-led growth,” the IMF official added.

He said the Nigerian authorities communicated to the mission that they would implement the 2025 budget in a manner that was responsive to the decline in international oil prices.

Schimmelpfennig said a neutral fiscal stance would support monetary policy to bring down inflation.

“To safeguard key spending priorities, it is imperative that fiscal savings from the fuel subsidy removal are channelled to the budget.

“In particular, adjustments should protect critical, growth-enhancing investment, while accelerating and broadening the delivery of cash transfers under the World Bank-supported programme to relieve those experiencing food insecurity.

“A tight monetary policy stance is required to guide inflation down firmly,” he concluded.

  • Okpebholo Assures Investors Of Agricultural Boost In Edo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured investors that his government is interested in improving agricultural activities to boost food security and sufficiency in the state.

He was speaking at the weekend when he inspected the Uwesan Farm Settlement in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, in the company of some interested investors.

In a statement by Fred Itua, his Chief Press Secretary, the governor said planting will soon commence in the farm settlement, along with similar ones in Edo South, Edo Central, and another in Edo North.

“This is a milestone achievement. The land is very fertile. We are very serious about farming in order to ensure our people have enough food to eat. We have 400 hectares of land here, and we will plant corn and cassava. Food sufficiency is our focus, and we will do everything to ensure we succeed.

“I am happy that our investors are here with us to see the farm settlement themselves. This is their first visit, and by the time they will be coming again, they will come with their technical partners,” he stated.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Peter Osagie, said the Uwesan Farm Settlement is communal land, and the people are ready to cooperate with the government to boost food security in the state.

“This is Uwesan, and we are collaborating with the people of this area because it is a communal land of over 400 hectares. We have a guarantee from the community to expand further.

“In the first instance, this place will be used for cassava farming because it has multiple uses, as both animal and human feed. Right now, the animal feed industry is experiencing a shortage of maize supply, and the state wants to bridge that gap.

“Closely related to that is cassava cultivation for obvious reasons as well, because it is one of the most stable carbohydrates for the developing world.

“In Edo State, we have two ethanol plants that use cassava as a stock. Right now, cassava farmers are automatic millionaires because off-take is guaranteed.

“Apart from the people here, we have continued to talk to our friends who are interested in off-take in cassava in Edo State. Soon, we will have 400 hectares of land for cassava,” he stated.

  • Capcom may have underestimated how tricky of a character Elena is for her Street Fighter 6 release

Past quotes about the character from her Ultra Street Fighter 4 release shine light on how difficult she is to implement

For those of you who lived through Elena’s Ultra Street Fighter 4 release back in 2014, you know Elena’s Healing as one of the most infamous moves in the entire franchise.

It allowed Elena to take damage and fill up her Ultra meter, which in turn could be used to do Healing and replenish her life. Tying Elena’s Healing to her Ultra is often cited as one of the worst decisions the developers made during Street Fighter 4’s lifespan.

The fighting game community largely expected Elena to come out in Street Fighter 6 before her official June 5, 2025 release date, because of how many things are tied into her being added to the game, namely the Capcom Pro Tour which has a $2 million dollar prize pool.

Also, major balance changes for Season 3 and potentially new costumes may come packaged with Elena, but no official word has been given at this time about these things.

“Even if you have a solid gameplan with [Elena’s] Healing, it’s still extremely difficult and extremely situational to use,” — former Capcom developer right after Ultra Street Fighter 4’s console release.

However, Elena is a character with a history of majorly upsetting the balance of Street Fighter games, and this is largely tied to her Healing mechanic, which Capcom heavily underestimated previously, despite being warned about it by the playerbase.

During Elena’s introduction video for Ultra Street Fighter 4, a former Capcom developer noted that her Ultra 1 (Brave Dance) was the one to select over Ultra 2 (Healing), but this did not pan out in terms of how the character was consistently played in high stakes tournament matches.

“The primary Ultra of choice for Elena should be Brave Dance, and that’s because it gives you damage. If you’re using Healing, there are very few scenarios where you can use Healing safely without the opponent catching you,” a former Capcom developer said immediately after the character’s console release in Ultra Street Fighter 4.

“Even if you have a solid gameplan with Healing, it’s still extremely difficult and extremely situational to use,” the former Capcom developer added.

These words clearly did not hold up long term, as numerous pro players played the character and used her Healing move relentlessly to win matches.

Capcom has already stated that they’re aware of Elena’s Healing mechanic and that the playerbase shouldn’t be worried about it in Street Fighter 6, but given their past statements and how difficult Elena is to balance, I wonder if their team heavily underestimated how difficult the capoeira fighter is to add to the game.

Considering we’re only getting four characters per season in Street Fighter 6, it’s very important that each fighter makes a significant impact on the roster and the game itself.

Releasing a heavily watered down Elena that no one cares about or plays wouldn’t be in Capcom’s best interests, as they need the sales and hype that surrounds these characters to maintain momentum.

From past statements and how she’s ended up being way too strong in the past, Elena is one of the most difficult characters to balance that they could have been added to the game, and she’s not even particularly high up in various polls that have been ran asking players which fighters they’d most like to see.

Because of her Healing mechanic and generally annoying personality, Elena is not well regarded by the playerbase, nor in the actual story of the game itself, as most of the cast find her annoying and creepy.

While she was being added to Ultra Street Fighter 4, the developers specifically called Elena a “tricky” character, and given how much she’s been delayed out of her expected window, and how haphazard her release date announcement has been, I wonder if they’ve heavily underestimated just how difficult of a character Elena is to add into Street Fighter 6.

  • 2023 ELECTIONS: Wike dismisses Peter Obi, labels him a ‘social media candidate’

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained why he chose not to support Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2023 general elections.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday in Abuja, Wike dismissed Obi’s chances of winning the presidency, describing him as a “social media candidate” lacking the grassroots political structure necessary for electoral victory in Nigeria.

“No, he has no chance to win the election,” Wike said emphatically. “I don’t go to where you see people like this kind of social media candidates. I don’t do social media candidate.”

The former Rivers State Governor emphasized that electoral success in Nigeria is not solely determined by popularity or perceived competence, but by deep-rooted political networks and strategic alliances that resonate with the electorate beyond digital platforms.

Wike’s comments reflect ongoing tensions and ideological divides within Nigeria’s political landscape, especially following a general election that saw heightened youth engagement and online activism. Many viewed Obi’s candidacy as a significant shift toward a younger, reform-oriented political movement, but critics like Wike argue that digital popularity cannot replace the realities of electoral politics.

Wike’s remarks may reignite conversations around the evolving role of social media in Nigerian democracy and elections in the country, as well as whether traditional political structures remain the most effective path to power.
