The Directorate oversees several key initiatives, including Ready to Run, Data Services, School of Politics, and the Social Enterprise Incubator.

    Role Summary

    We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven professional to support the execution of innovation-driven initiatives within the Innovation Directorate. The successful candidate will be responsible for program coordination, stakeholder engagement, data-driven insights, and operational execution across the Directorate’s units. This role requires a strong understanding of governance, leadership development, and social impact, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Implementation & Coordination

    • Support the planning and execution of initiatives under the Innovation Directorate,including Ready to Run, Data Services, and other strategic programs.

    • Assist in developing training materials, workshops, and resources for program participants.

    • Manage program logistics, including scheduling, event coordination, and resource allocation.

    • Monitor program performance, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and KPIs.

    Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships

    • Engage with key stakeholders, including faculty, mentors, political leaders, and program participants, to enhance program impact.

    • Support the establishment and maintenance of partnerships with external organizations, funders, and thought leaders in governance, leadership, and innovation.

    • Represent the Innovation Directorate in external meetings, conferences, and events.

    Data & Impact Measurement

    • Work closely with the Data Services unit to track program effectiveness and generate insights for continuous improvement.

    • Support the development of reports, case studies, and success stories that demonstrate program impact.

    • Maintain a centralized database for program participants, stakeholders, and key metrics.

    Strategic Support & Innovation

    • Contribute to the development of innovative program models and strategies to enhance the reach and effectiveness of the Directorate.

    • Conduct research on best practices in governance, leadership development, and social impact to inform program design.

    • Provide strategic recommendations to the Director on emerging trends and opportunities in the innovation and leadership space.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Public Policy, Political Science, Development Studies, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field.

    • 5+ years of experience in program management, governance initiatives, leadership development, or social innovation.

    • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) expertise, including designing and implementing M&E frameworks, data collection, impact assessment, and adaptive learning strategies.

    • Proven ability to develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for program effectiveness.

    • Knowledge of / experience with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, data analysis, and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).

    • Strong understanding of political leadership, civic engagement, and capacity-building programs.

    • Experience in report writing, stakeholder reporting, and donor reporting using data- driven insights.

    • Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

    • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience using MEAL tools and methodologies such as Theory of Change,

    • Logframes, Results-Based Management (RBM), Outcome Mapping, and Most Significant Change (MSC).

    • Familiarity with governance ecosystems in Nigeria and Africa.

    • Ability to synthesize data and communicate findings effectively to different audiences (technical and non-technical stakeholders).

  • US orders Nigerian and other international students with cancelled visas to exit

    Hundreds of international students are being forced to leave the United States following an aggressive crackdown on student visas by the Trump administration. 

     

    Reports indicate that the Department of Homeland Security has intensified efforts to identify and deport students, including those who have not been charged with any crime. “Do not attempt to remain in the United States. The federal government will find you,” read an email reportedly from the Department, shared by immigration attorney Nicole Micheroni.

     

    Immigration lawyer Dustin Baxter, who is representing more than 100 affected students in a lawsuit against the government, stated that visa revocations are happening arbitrarily. “Not only would they revoke the person’s student visa – even if there was no conviction, if there was just an arrest, and sometimes there wasn’t even an arrest, there was just an encounter and maybe a ticket – they would revoke the student visa,” Baxter said in comments to CNN.

     

    Some students learned their visa had been revoked only after being contacted by their schools, while many institutions were also left in the dark. Stanford University reported that it discovered four of its students and two recent graduates had lost their visas only during a routine check of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database on April 4.

     

    This marks a significant shift in policy. Traditionally, designated school officers were responsible for initiating visa revocations in SEVIS. However, according to Jeff Joseph, president-elect of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is now bypassing schools to take unilateral action.

     

    One of the most publicized cases involved Tufts University doctoral student Rümeysa Öztürk, who was handcuffed and detained by immigration agents shortly after her visa was revoked without prior notification. Surveillance footage presented in court reportedly captured Öztürk “shrieking in fear and confusion” as she was taken away.

     

    The Trump administration has defended the actions, citing legal provisions that allow visa revocations on national security or foreign policy grounds. Secretary of State Marco Rubio referenced a clause that permits the cancellation of visas if an individual’s presence poses “serious foreign policy consequences.”

     

    A statement from the State Department asserted the government’s “broad authority” to revoke visas at any time, even after they are issued. “We continuously check visa holders… and we will revoke their visas and deport them if they don’t [follow the rules],” the agency warned.

     

    The development has caused widespread panic among international students, with many now facing sudden detentions, deportations, and academic disruptions, even in the absence of formal charges or due process.

  • Is This the Last Time We’ve Seen Pedro Pascal’s Joel in The Last of Us TV Show?

    If there’s one video game adaptation I will fight to defend, it will be HBO’s The Last of Us. This show not only brings this incredible story to life, but also captures the soul of the game, wrapped up in the performances of a wonderful cast. The second episode of The Last of Us Season 2 has aired, and the inevitable has happened — Joel’s death. In all honesty, I am pretty sure none of us, not even video game fans, thought that we would get to see it this early in the show. But now that it has happened, that brings us to the question: Is this the last time we are seeing Pedro Pascal’s Joel in The Last of Us Season 2? Or, will Joel appear further after episode 2? Let’s find out.

    What Happened to Joel in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2?

    In Episode 2 of The Last of Us Season 2, we see Joel’s death at the hands of Abby. We see that Abby gets caught in a chase where she is being followed by a horde of infected. She eventually finds her way into a warehouse, but the relentless infected don’t stop.

    And just when it looks like Abby is going to get killed at the hands of a runner, one of the infected types in The Last of Us, a gun appears in the frame, and it’s none other than Joel who saves her life. Once Abby finds out that the man who saved her life was Joel, thanks to Dina calling out his name, she lures him and Dina to the hideout where Abby’s friends are holed up.

    Once they get there, Abby gets Dina sedated and hits Joel with a shotgun blast to the knee. She tells Joel that the surgeon he killed was her father, and then proceeds to beat him to a pulp with a golf club. Ellie finds Joel’s tracks and finds her way to the hideout. However, even though she tries to save Joel, she is unable to do so, and Abby stabs Joel in the neck, killing Joel instantly.

    Will Pedro Pascal’s Joel Appear Again in The Last of Us Season 2?

    Even though his character was killed by Abby in Episode 2, we can say with absolute certainty that Pedro Pascal will return as Joel in future episodes of The Last of Us Season 2. Now, there is nothing supernatural going on in the show, but instead, we will see Pascal return as Joel in some flashback sequences or Ellie’s dreams, as we have seen in The Last of Us Part 2 video game.

    In the TLOU Season 2 trailer itself, there are certain clips that I’m pretty certain are taken from such flashback sequences. So if you have been worried about Pedro Pascal’s return as Joel in The Last of Us Season 2, I can tell you that Joel’s screentime is not over yet.

    In the game, there were three major flashback sequences or dream sequences where Joel appeared even after his death. So, let’s wait and see what happens and stay tuned with us for more updates in this season of The Last of Us!

  • VFD Group Seeks Shareholders’ Approval For N50bn Capital Raise

    VFD Group Plc has announced its intention to raise up to N50bn in additional capital as part of its strategic growth initiatives.

    The proposal is expected to be presented to shareholders for approval at the company’s 9th Annual General Meeting (AGM), where several key resolutions will be tabled for consideration.

    The planned capital raise, according to the notice released by the company, will be executed through a variety of instruments including rights issues, public offers, global depository receipts, commercial papers, bonds, loans, or a combination of convertible and non-convertible securities.

    The capital may be raised in single or multiple tranches, series, or proportions, and may be offered either as standalone issuances or under structured programmes.

    The Board of Directors will determine the terms and conditions of the capital raise, including interest or coupon rates, maturity periods, and other relevant terms, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

    In addition to the capital raise, VFD Group is also seeking approval to capitalize the sum of ₦3.17bn from the balance of its share premium account as at December 31, 2024.

    This capitalization will be used to issue bonus shares to existing shareholders. Specifically, the company intends to allot bonus shares worth ₦6.33bn, credited as fully paid at 50 Kobo each, to shareholders registered as of the close of business on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

    The bonus share issue will be on the basis of five new ordinary shares for every one ordinary share currently held. These bonus shares will rank equally in all respects with the existing ordinary shares of the company.

    If shareholders approve the proposed resolutions, the company’s issued share capital will increase from ₦633.42m, divided into 1,266,849,100 ordinary shares of 50 Kobo each, to ₦3.8bn, divided into 7,601,094,600 ordinary shares of 50 Kobo each.

    This increase will be effected through the creation of an additional 6,334,245,500 ordinary shares.

    In line with the proposed increase in share capital, the company also seeks to amend Clause 6 of its Memorandum of Association to reflect the updated share capital structure.

    The amendment will grant the company the flexibility to manage its capital in accordance with the provisions of its Articles of Association, including the power to vary, modify, or abrogate any rights attached to the shares.

    The Board will further request authorization to deal with any fractional shares resulting from the bonus share issuance in a manner it deems fit, pursuant to applicable laws.

    Additionally, the directors are seeking approval to enter into any agreements, execute necessary documents, appoint professional parties, and perform all actions required to implement the resolutions effectively. All actions will be subject to the approval and guidance of relevant regulatory authorities.

    The AGM is expected to serve as a crucial platform for aligning shareholder interests with the company’s long-term growth plans and strategic objectives.

    These proposals, if approved, will strengthen the Group’s capital base and enhance its capacity to pursue expansion opportunities across its investment portfolio.

  • Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler beat Rockets as Warriors win Game 1

    HOUSTON – In the week leading up to Sunday’s first-round series opener between the Warriors and host Houston, much was made about how the Rockets had held Steph Curry to just three points on 1-of-10 shooting in their April 6 matchup.

    Had the uber-athletic Rockets figured out the game’s greatest shooter? The answer ended up being a resounding “no” in Golden State’s tight 95-85 victory.

    When hounded by Amen Thompson and the same Houston wings who had vexed him at Chase Center, Curry schooled the young Rockets in the rematch en route to 31 points.

    He burned defenders on back-cuts, sank soft floaters over their bigs and nailed five high-arcing 3-pointers, including a jaw-dropping fadeaway from the corner midway through the third quarter. 

    But not even Curry at his incendiary best was enough to pull away from the Rockets, at least right away. 

    It took a late surge by Jimmy Butler, who scored seven of his 25 points in the final two minutes, to clinch the win.

    The Rockets played tight man-to-man defense on the Warriors’ star scorers, and had bigs Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams park themselves in the paint while daring Golden State’s corner shooter to make them pay.

    The Warriors struggled to generate offense early, falling behind 19-12 before Curry began to find cracks in the Rockets’ defense. He made two layups late in the quarter to help Golden State pull to 21-18 after one period.

    The teams battled it out in the second quarter as well, but Curry made two late 3-pointers and Butler canned a tough basket over Sengun to key a 9-0 half-ending run to put the Warriors up 47-34 at halftime.

    Golden State led by as much as 23 midway through the third quarter, but Houston did not go quietly into the Texas night. A 7-0 run highlighted by a drifting Alperen Sengun triple against an expiring shot clock kept Houston in the game. 

    Curry ended the run with a pull-up midrange jumper, but the Rockets continued to cut into the lead thanks to several big offensive rebounds by Steven Adams. 

    Houston grabbed 22 offensive rebounds to Golden State’s six, with those second and third chances keeping the home team in the game. The Warriors’ once-formidable lead was cut to 69-60 at the end of the third quarter.

    Curry pushed the lead back to 72-62 with another deep 3-pointer early in the fourth. After Houston answered and cut the lead to just four, Gary Payton II knifed inside for two layups to give Golden State breathing room with eight minutes remaining. 

    Houston answered right back with a Jabari Smith Jr. triple. Houston cut the lead all the way down to 76-73 when Thompson made a midrange shot over Curry.

  • US Supreme Court stops Trump from deporting migrants

    The United States Supreme Court has issued a dramatic late-night order blocking President Donald Trump’s controversial use of the centuries-old Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelan migrants without due process. The emergency ruling, which came as the administration prepared to carry out additional deportations, halts the use of the 1798 law, last employed during World War II, to expel individuals without giving them a chance to challenge their removal in court.

     

    The justices directed the government not to deport any members of the affected group “until further order.” Notably, two of the court’s most conservative justices dissented from the majority decision, underscoring the divisiveness of the legal maneuver.

     

    Trump recently invoked the Alien Enemies Act to justify the deportation of Venezuelan migrants to a high-security prison in El Salvador known for housing thousands of gang members. Critics have raised alarms that this policy marks a significant overreach and may violate constitutional protections. Many of those targeted have not been charged with crimes and were reportedly identified based on vague associations or even tattoos.

     

    The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which led the legal challenge, hailed the court’s intervention. “These men were in imminent danger of spending their lives in a horrific foreign prison without ever having had a chance to go to court,” said Lee Gelernt, an attorney with the ACLU.

     

    In response, the federal government filed a motion asking the court to reconsider, insisting it should retain the authority to use the Alien Enemies Act or, at the very least, receive guidance on using alternative laws to proceed with deportations. The administration maintains that those being deported are members of violent gangs, including Tren de Aragua, which Trump has designated a terrorist organization.

     

    The move is part of a wider crackdown by the Trump administration that includes military deployment to the southern border, trade penalties on neighboring countries, and harsh rhetoric portraying migrants as criminals. Trump’s recent actions have extended beyond immigration, targeting institutions like major law firms, universities, and independent media outlets, prompting fears of creeping authoritarianism.

     

    The situation has also drawn international attention. In one high-profile case, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident, was deported to the CECOT prison in El Salvador under the new policy. The administration later admitted the removal was an “administrative error,” though Trump has continued to label Abrego Garcia a gang member, even sharing a manipulated image suggesting ties to MS-13.

     

    Civil liberties groups and Democratic leaders have voiced deep concern, calling the use of the Alien Enemies Act a grave threat to constitutional rights. Trump’s supporters, however, have largely cheered the deportations, with some far-right influencers openly urging the administration to defy the court’s ruling.

     

    As legal battles intensify and court decisions mount, the clash between executive authority and judicial oversight appears set to become a defining issue in the months leading up to the next election.

    The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2, titled Through The Valley, featured one of the most gut-wrenching sequences from the video game. On the lookout for Joel, Abby is ambushed by a horde of infected and eventually gets saved by the one she wants to kill. Dina calls out Joel by his name in front of Abby, taking her aback, and she immediately crafts a plan to capture him. While the video game fans were somehow prepared for the unfortunate death sequence in TLOU Season 2, we never thought it would happen this early. So, how does Joel die in The Last of Us? Here’s the answer you are looking for.

    Is Joel Really Dead in The Last of Us Season 2?

    Yes, Joel is dead in TLOU Season 2. Abby initially stumbles into him when she is ambushed by a bunch of infected. Abby had never seen Joel, so if it wasn’t for Dina calling out Joel’s name, she wouldn’t have identified him.

    The girl pretends to be a helpless kid who needs help, so she asks Dina and Joel to come with her to the place where her group is holed up. However, after reaching there, Abby doesn’t take a lot of time to reveal her true intentions.

    While Joel tries to connect with Tommy over the handheld transceiver, Abby’s group holds Dina hostage, making the man realize that something’s not right. Joel and Ellie encountered a plethora of survivalist groups in Season 1, so he initially believed them to be one such group, and that’s why he says, “You wanna rob us? Fine, take what you want.” Later, he discovers the truth when Abby tells him that he is responsible for her loss, as Joel killed her father in the Fireflies HQ in Salt Lake City.

    Abby wanted to kill him slowly, so she shoots him in the leg first and then shares her true intentions with Joel. After that, she slowly beats the life out of Joel with a golf club, ultimately putting an end to Pedro Pascal’s role in the series. And you know what’s the real kicker, Abby kills Joel right in front of Ellie’s eyes by sticking the broken end of the golf club in Joel’s neck. This was a brutal and heart-wrenching scene that wasn’t shown as vividly in the video game.

    How Does Joel Die in the TLOU Part 2 Game?

    Video game adaptations usually make some significant changes to the original story, and TLOU is no different. While staying mostly faithful to the video game, the television series altered some events, adding more emotional drama to the story.

    First of all, Joel’s death takes place within 2-3 hours in the game, and The Last of Us Season 2 adapted it in the second episode of Season 2, so the HBO series gave us an extended period to watch our beloved Pedro Pascal as Joel on our screens. Secondly, Joel wasn’t with Dina when he crossed paths with Abby and her group in the game; instead, he was with his brother, Tommy.

    The brothers protected her from falling prey to the infected and took her to the lodge, where her group took cover. Like the TV show, Abby comes clear in front of Joel and shoots him in the leg before beating him to death with the golf club. Even though Ellie arrives at the location, she can’t do anything to protect her surrogate father as he succumbs to the fatal blows Abby released on him.
