President Bola Tinubu on Monday congratulated Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, on his 65th birthday.
Tinubu reflected on their enduring friendship and shared commitment to national progress, rooted in their membership of the “Class of ’99” Governors, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesman, said in a statement.
The President extolled the former Majority Whip’s unwavering patriotism, recalling decades of collaboration marked by mutual respect, even with political differences.
He lauded Kalu’s entrepreneurial spirit, as epitomised in his establishment of Slok Holding and investments in banking and the media, ventures that have created hundreds of jobs.
“Sen. Kalu, my friend, is a patriot whose life embodies resilience, generosity, and the transformative power of visionary leadership.
“On this milestone, I celebrate his contributions to our nation’s economic and political tapestry,” President Tinubu stated.
He prayed to God Almighty to grant Kalu renewed strength, wisdom, and many more years of impactful service to Nigeria and humanity.

President Bola Tinubu is set to return to Nigeria today, marking the end of a nearly two-week overseas trip.
The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed this via his X handle on Monday.
In a brief post shared via his X account, Onanuga wrote;
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return home today.”
There have been calls by many for the President to return to the country following the increased spate of insecurity in the country and the wanton killings, particularly in Benue and Plateau states.
The President departed Nigeria for Paris on April 2, 2025, for what the Presidency described as a working visit aimed at reviewing his administration’s mid-term performance and evaluating key milestones.
However, his extended absence has drawn criticism from opposition figures amid a spike in insecurity across several regions, particularly in Plateau and Benue states.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, through his media aide Paul Ibe, criticised the president’s continued stay abroad, calling it “irresponsible” amid widespread violence.
“Tinubu is away while Nigeria burns—daily killings, attacks, and loss of territories. This is deeply troubling,” Atiku stated. “Nigerians are yearning for real leadership—someone who’s present and actively engaged.”
Labour Party’s former presidential candidate Peter Obi echoed similar concerns, urging the president to return immediately.
“In the two weeks you have been away, over 150 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity,” Obi said, citing incidents in Plateau, Zamfara, Borno, and Benue. I urge Mr President to quickly suspend whatever he is doing in France and rush home to take responsibility by addressing these disturbing issues.”Obi said
A newly identified terrorist group calling itself “Mahmuda” has issued a threat to communities in Kwara State, warning of an impending violent attack on residents of Duruma village and the entire Borgu Kingdom, SaharaReporters can exclusively report.
This latest warning was sent in an audio message to residents of Duruma village by the group’s leader. The message, recorded in Hausa, was obtained by SaharaReporters on Monday morning through frightened locals who said they received it via mobile communication channels.
In the chilling recording, the group’s leader condemned the formation of local vigilante units and accused the Emir of Duruma and his people of instigating the crisis.
“This is a message; a warning to the people of Duruma village, the Emir of Duruma, and the illiterate vigilantes who are causing the chaos. Their actions pose a significant danger to their lives, and this crisis serves as a forewarning of what may happen in the future,” the voice stated.
He added that since their arrival in the Borgu kingdom five years ago, they had lived peacefully and avoided confrontation. However, he claimed that recent developments had forced them to prepare for violent retaliation.
“Since our arrival in the Borgu kingdom five years ago, we have met people behaving like animals with little regard for each other’s lives.
“Since our arrival in Duruma over five years ago, we have not hurt anyone or carried arms against anybody.
“What are you people benefiting from the government? Those who are funding you, what have you benefited from them?
“However, since you people now prefer crisis to peace, we promise you people that you will get the crisis,” he declared.
In a direct threat to residents, he warned them to evacuate the community or face death.
“And whoever knows they are not ready for the battle should immediately pack their properties and leave the community.
“We heard that the people of Duruma are now recruiting local vigilantes. Whoever allowed their child to join the vigilantes or contributed money for buying bullets has shown that they are fighting us and they should prepare for us as well.
“Whoever doesn’t want to fight us should pack their properties and leave. Stop going to the market, and in fact, relocate from the entire kingdom; otherwise, we will kill everyone we see.”
The speaker also sternly warned smugglers operating in the region, accusing them of aiding security efforts.
“And for the smugglers, you people should look for alternative roads. If not, we will kill everyone we see on the road. And if you think we are lying when preparing to pass, come prepared with your white burial garment,” the voice said.
This comes barely two days after SaharaReporters reported that the terrorist group launched an attack on Duruma village (Karonji) in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The incident occurred on Friday evening, multiple sources told SaharaReporters.
It was learnt that on arrival at the village on motorcycles, members of the group started shooting indiscriminately.
The terrorists also burnt a vehicle and some motorcycles belonging to a local vigilante group in the community.
Fallout is among the most treasured and revered video game franchises of all time, with a 28-year legacy of groundbreaking Western RPGs that have helped define the genre today. Known for its dark humor, retro-future aesthetic, satirical themes, and an atmosphere that seamlessly oscillates between haunting and eccentric, there’s nothing quite like Fallout. That being said, there is a small selection of great games that come close. So, if you’re looking to get your Fallout fix until the next mainline entry is released, here are the best games like Fallout you must try.
1. Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Developer(s): GSC Game World
Release Date: 20 November 2024
The Stalker franchise has often been referred to as a more ‘hardcore Fallout’ that emphasizes immersive elements and survival over storytelling and RPG-style mission structures. Naturally, this is also the case in Stalker 2. But while there are many points of distinction between the two IPs, they share the intoxicating gameplay loop of wandering around a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is scarce.
Heart of Chornobyl sees players revisit the Exclusion Zone and battle all manner of mutated creatures in search of supernatural artifacts. There’s zero room for levity here as the atmosphere is tense and unnerving at all times, even veering into psychological horror on occasion. Scheming opportunists can pop out of nowhere and attack you on sight, and rotting facilities hide the most grotesque of monstrosities.
Fallout fans will find plenty of similarities in that brief, which is reason enough to give Stalker 2 a chance. That said, you’ll have to contend with strict survival mechanics and keep a constant eye on the radiation counter.
2. Wasteland 3
Developer(s): inXile Entertainment
Release Date: 28 August 2020
Fans of the OG isometric Fallout games will likely be familiar with the Wasteland series. The franchise’s inception was inspired by Wasteland (1988), with the first Fallout game even being labeled a “spiritual successor” to Wasteland by the developers at Interplay. The links don’t end there, as Wasteland’s sequel was developed by InXile Entertainment, which was founded by former Fallout devs, including the series’ executive producer, Brian Fargo.
Needless to say, both Wasteland 2 and 3 carry many of the hallmarks associated with Fallout. But unlike Bethesda’s modern reimagining of the IP, Wasteland 3 sticks to its CRPG roots.
The 2020 release takes place in post-apocalyptic Colorado, which has been ravaged by nuclear detonations for a century. A semblance of civilization has returned to these parts, with remnants of humanity setting up settlements and factions. Your character is a part of the Desert Rangers, a group of lawmen that seek to restore order in the Wasteland. For all their good intentions, the Rangers often have to negotiate with dubious characters in scenarios where the fine lines between good and evil are blurred.
Just like the franchise it inspired, Wasteland 3 is packed with dark humor, environmental storytelling, and choices that shape the game’s world. If fans of modern Fallout are willing to contend with the isometric perspective and turn-based combat, they’ll find some of the best writing any RPG has to offer.
3. Metro Exodus
Developer(s): 4A Games
Release Date: 14 February 2019
The Metro games are closer to Stalker in terms of DNA, but many of the series’ core themes can be found in Fallout. While the games can’t be classified as RPGs, they deliver a similar sense of dread that players felt while exploring the many haunting ruins in Fallout 3. Besides this, they also take place in a post-apocalyptic world drenched in radiation, feature socio-political themes that continue to affect the remaining population, and have warring factions to represent humanity’s unquenchable thirst for power.
For newcomers, I’d recommend starting with Metro 2033, but for Fallout fans, Metro Exodus will feel like an easier gateway to Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Soviet wasteland. This is because Exodus has multiple open-world areas that are packed with points of interest. While strolling through these locations, you’ll also come across the local wildlife, which has mutated beyond recognition. Before jumping into Exodus, keep in mind that the game is not an RPG, so don’t go in expecting dialogue trees or branching story paths. Nonetheless, this is one of the best games like Fallout you should try.
4. Atomfall
Developer(s): Rebellion Developments
Release Date: 27 March 2o25
The newest release on this list, Atomfall, proudly wears its Fallout influence on its sleeve. The game literally kicks off with a vault-opening sequence akin to Fallout 4, and its world is littered with many elements players associate with Bethesda’s franchise.
For starters, the retro futuristic aesthetic is alive and kicking in every corner of the British quarantine zone. While walking around its picturesque iteration of a nuclear disaster, you’ll also come across propaganda pieces pushing British pride instead of loyalty to Uncle Sam. From the way nature has reclaimed the dilapidated nuclear reactor to the overarching sense of mystery that permeates throughout Cumbria, that distinct Fallout vibe is impossible to miss.
If you’re looking for a new alt-history setting to wander through, Atomfall is well worth trying out. Just don’t go in expecting a Fallout clone from top to bottom since the game offers up plenty of personality of its own.
5. The Outer Worlds
Developer(s): Obsidian Entertainment
Release Date: 25 October 2019
Developed by Obsidian, makers of the iconic Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds lays out a devastating display of late-stage capitalism for players to witness. At its core, the game is a narrative-driven RPG with multiple open zones, rather than a vast open world. Despite the slight difference, these open zones are packed with side activities to get lost in and unmarked locations to discover. It also features strong character writing and a companion system just like Fallout.
Whether it’s the core gameplay loop or how quests are structured, The Outer Worlds can often feel like Fallout in Space – a comparison many players made around the time of its release. The combat system also bears plenty of similarities, and so does character progression.
The primary point of distinction is the setting, as Obsidian’s RPG takes players to various settlements in the solar system as opposed to a ravaged version of a real-life location. While the locations might be different, the dark humor is just as punchy, and the themes delve into the dangers of capitalism at every turn. With the game’s sequel set to release in 2025, this is the perfect time to try out the underrated original.
6. Starfield
Developer(s): Bethesda Game Studios
Release Date: 6 September 2023
Speaking of Fallout in Space, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Bethesda’s attempt at a galaxy-spanning adventure. Released in 2023 after years of anticipation, Starfield takes the Bethesda RPG formula to the skies and features all the hallmarks of the Maryland studio’s titles. From the Creation Engine’s unmistakable object physics to the lifeless NPC eyes, Fallout fans will feel right at home in the game’s star systems.
Starfield can feel like an updated Fallout 4 at times, minus the setting, of course. The gunplay feels crisper, but is similar overall. The dialogue system is barely different, and building affinity with companions involves the same steps. However, the game does lose out on delivering a strong sense of discovery by ditching a richly detailed open world in favor of procedurally generated planets. This could be a deal breaker for players who turn to Fallout for open-world exploration, but for the rest, Starfield offers dozens of hours of RPG goodness, even if it doesn’t nail every aspect.
7. Atomic Heart
Developer(s): Mundfish Studio
Release Date: 21 February 2023
Before you grab your pitchforks, hear me out for a second. Yes, Atomic Heart is first and foremost a Bioshock clone that borrows heavily from the franchise, down to the combat plasmids and even the lighthouse. It’s also not an RPG and doesn’t take place in a post-apocalyptic setting. With all that said, something about the game’s aesthetic and imagery reminded me of Fallout, and it’s easy to see why.
Atomic Heart kicks off with a triumphant display of nuclear-age Soviet optimism, welcoming players into an alternate history world where the USSR has leapfrogged its Cold War rival through technological advancements of all kinds. The Communist Utopia is alive and flourishing, but just like the rampant American nationalism in Fallout, something sinister is bubbling under the surface. In this case, the trouble arrives in the form of AI and robots spiraling out of human control.
The game deviates from Fallout in many ways, but the retro futurism, coupled with the satirical undertones, stands out as a glaring similarity. If you love Fallout’s central themes and aren’t turned away by a bit of jank, I strongly recommend trying out Atomic Heart.
And those are the best games like Fallout you should try out. If you agree with our picks or have some of your recommendations to shout out, make sure to leave a comment down below.
China has warned that it will respond forcefully to any country that cooperates with U.S. efforts to isolate Beijing economically. The statement, released Monday by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, comes amid intensifying trade tensions between the two largest economies in the world. According to the ministry, “China firmly opposes any party reaching a deal at the expense of China’s interests. If this happens, China will not accept it and will resolutely take reciprocal countermeasures.”
The warning follows reports that U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is using ongoing tariff talks to pressure allied countries to limit their trade ties with China. Earlier this month, Trump paused planned tariff increases for 90 days on some U.S. partners. However, he raised duties on Chinese imports to 145%.
China paints U.S. policy as a global threat
In its statement, Beijing condemned Washington’s actions as aggressive and damaging to the global trade order. The ministry described the U.S. as “abusing tariffs” and engaging in “unilateral bullying.” It further warned that the erosion of multilateral rules would return international trade to the “law of the jungle.”
Despite the sharp rhetoric, China also sought to cast itself as open to a deal and supportive of a rules-based system. It emphasized its willingness to work with “all parties” to defend “international fairness and justice.”
China has already taken steps in response to the U.S. tariffs. It announced 125% duties on a range of U.S. goods and imposed new export controls on critical minerals. Several U.S. brands, mostly smaller ones, were also added to Chinese blocklists. This further limits their ability to engage with Chinese firms.
Meanwhile, Trump has said he still believes a trade agreement is possible. Last Thursday, he stated that a deal could be reached “in the next three to four weeks.” However, many analysts remain skeptical that any breakthrough is near.
China seeks broader support in Southeast Asia
President Xi Jinping recently completed a tour of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia, his first overseas trip of 2025. In readouts from these meetings, Chinese officials highlighted Xi’s calls for collective resistance against tariffs and “unilateral bullying.”
The trip comes as China continues to deepen its ties with Southeast Asia, now its largest trading partner by region.
China trade response: Expect more pushback against U.S.
Justin Yifu Lin, dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University, echoed Beijing’s concerns. Speaking to reporters, including one from Mali, Lin argued that countries should unite in response to U.S. pressure. “For African countries, or every country, it should be everyone cooperating, together responding to the U.S.,” he said.
Lin added that Washington’s actions are unlikely to succeed over time. “More and more voices will likely call the U.S. policy ‘unreasonable and illogical,’” he said. “I’m confident that unreasonable and illogical things can’t last that long.”
Lin did not rule out full U.S.-China decoupling. However, he said the two nations remain closely tied. This is mostly due to the U.S. reliance on Chinese goods and supply chains.
China has filed a formal complaint against the U.S. with the WTO over the new tariffs. It also replaced its top trade negotiator with Li Chenggang. The former now serves as vice minister and formerly represented China at the WTO.

Manchester United are continuing their late-season push for Champions League qualification, with Ruben Amorim’s side set to face a crucial test against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-finals next week.
With Champions League football hanging in the balance, planning for the summer transfer window is already underway behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
Despite some positive signs under Amorim, United’s midfield remains inconsistent, especially with the futures of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen uncertain.
The Red Devils are expected to focus heavily on strengthening their spine, with several high-profile names linked across Europe.
Now, a familiar name from Ruben Amorim’s former club is drawing attention.
Morten Hjulmand is of interest to Manchester United

According to reports from CaughtOffside, Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand is attracting interest from Manchester United, along with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 24-year-old Denmark international has enjoyed a standout season under Amorim in Lisbon, earning praise for his composure on the ball, defensive awareness, and natural leadership.

Although Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be leading the race, Amorim’s admiration of Morten Hjulmand could influence United’s next move.
The Portuguese coach previously described Hjulmand as a “fantastic player” during his time at Sporting, and a potential reunion at Old Trafford could be on the cards.
Morten Hjulmand is protected by an €80 million release clause, but sources suggest Sporting would accept a bid in the region of €50–60 million.
Arsenal are expected to lose both Jorginho and Thomas Partey, while Spurs continue to search for a reliable replacement for the inconsistent Yves Bissouma.
Despite facing stiff competition, United’s inside knowledge of the player and their existing relationship with Amorim could give them an edge in negotiations.
Hjulmand has also caught the eye of European giants Inter Milan, Barcelona, and PSG, but the allure of the Premier League may prove decisive.
With United targeting stability in midfield and Amorim pushing for tactical continuity, a swoop for Hjulmand could be the move that reshapes the Red Devils’ engine room next season.

Shifting to sustainable food systems involves replacing animal-based proteins with plant-based alternatives, which necessitates changes in food production and availability. To understand how this transition relates to demographic patterns, a new study examines the global connections between age-specific mortality, national macronutrient distributions, and protein substitution.
The University of Sydney study demonstrates that countries that consume more plant-based proteins, such as chickpeas, tofu, and peas, have longer adult life expectancies. By studying food supply and demographic data from 101 countries between 1961 and 2018, researchers have determined whether the type of protein a population consumes impacts longevity.
The study suggests a mixed picture when comparing the health impacts of meat versus plant-based protein at a population level. For children under the age of five, a food system that supplies large amounts of animal-based proteins and fats, such as meat, eggs, and dairy, has been linked to lower infant mortality rates. However, the reverse was true for adults, where plant-based proteins increased overall life expectancy.
Researchers analyzed 60 years of data from 101 countries to investigate the impact of plant— and animal-based protein diets on human longevity. They considered food production, as well as calorie, protein, and fat levels.
Plant communication: A new device can talk to plants
The study compared countries with high animal protein consumption, such as the US and Australia, to those that favor plant-based diets, including India and Indonesia. Adjusting for wealth and population, they found that countries with greater availability of plant-based protein tended to have longer life expectancies than those relying on animal-based proteins.
High consumption of animal-based proteins, mainly processed meats, has been linked to chronic illnesses like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. On the other hand, plant proteins, such as legumes, nuts, and whole grains, are associated with lower risks of chronic diseases and improve overall longevity.
Studies have shown that plant-based diets contribute to the longevity observed in some of the world’s longest-lived communities, including those in Okinawa, Japan; Ikaria, Greece; and Loma Linda, California. Dr. Senior emphasized the importance of understanding how plant-based proteins can improve human lifespan and support environmental sustainability as dietary habits evolve in developed countries that aim to decarbonize.
