  • Court strikes out Femi Falana and Falz’s N1bn defamation suit against VeryDarkMan

A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday, April 15, struck out the defamation suit filed by the Falanas against internet commentator Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana; and his son, Folarin popularly known as Falz; had filed the defamation suit against VDM following the comments and video he published on September 24, 2024 on his social media handles and pages.

The Falanas had dragged the defendant before the court in separate suits, claiming N500 million each as damages over a video he posted on his social media platforms alleging that they collected N10 million from Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, to pervert the cause of justice.

When the case was called on Tuesday, April 15, Falana, his son, and VDM were absent in court.

However, counsel for the respondent, Niyi Alagbe, holding brief for Marvin Omorogbe, informed the court that he had earlier filed an application for stay of proceeding before Justice Fimisola Azeez.

Counsel for the Falanas, Omotayo Olatunbosun, in his response, informed the court that he received the said application on Monday about 4:15 p.m.

Olatunbosun argued that the matter of the day was the preliminary objection, which he said was ripe for hearing and that the new application was meant to prolong matters.

Olatunbosun urged the judge to proceed with the business of the day.

Justice Matthias Dawodu said the application in question was not in the file and wondered why he was being troubled with the case when the substantive suit was before another court.

Dawodu struck out the suit and held that insistence on going ahead with the suit would be an academic exercise since the substantive suit was before another judge.

“Consequently, this suit is hereby struck out,” he said.

  • Navy uncovers 8 illegal bunkering sites in Ondo

The Nigerian Navy has uncovered eight illegal bunkering sites at Obe-Akinboye sea-side community of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base (FOB), Igbokoda, Capt. Aliyu Usman, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Igbokoda.

He said the operation against maritime crime, which was executed by personnel of the base, took place at about 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Usman said: “The discovery was made possible through ‘a robust intelligence network’ and the vigilance of naval personnel in their fight against maritime crime, illegality and economic sabotage within their area of operation.

“Once intelligence was received about the illegal refining camps, the base Quick Response Team stationed at a nearby Naval Security Outpost was immediately mobilised to conduct the raid.”

According to him, the perpetrators flee the area upon sighting the Naval team, abandon the illegal sites.

“Upon inspection, the team uncovered eight illegal refining camps containing several storage tanks and reservoirs filled with an estimated 50,000 litres of stolen crude oil.

“In addition, the camps were equipped with crude oil theft-related equipment, including three wooden boats used to convey the stolen products, pumping machines, and discharge pipes.

“The eight illegal refining sites and associated items were handled in accordance with extant directives from Defence Headquarters,” the commander added.

  • Former Premier League strikers respond to Marcus Rashford

Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford is looking like he’s coming to the end of his time with The Red Devils as he thrives on loan with Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old joined The Red Devils 20 years ago at the age of eight, rising through the academy and becoming a vital part of the squad over recent years.

In the 2022/23 season, Rashford recorded his career-best goal contributions, with 30 goals and 12 assists in 56 games as he helped United achieve third in the Premier League, runners up of the FA Cup and victors of the Carabao Cup.

However, since then the striker-turned-winger has failed to impress under Erik ten Hag and then Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils began considering offloading their academy graduate due to his excessive wage demands of £315,000 per week, and his off-field antics affecting his on-pitch focus.

Unfortunately for the club, no suitors were willing to discuss a permanent move due to his wages, and with no improvement in his attitude, Rashford was ultimately dropped from the squad by Amorim.

However, in January Aston Villa came knocking, signing the United wantaway on loan with an option to buy for £40 million at the end of the season.

Since moving, Rashford has been thriving, with three goals and six assists in 15 games, including setting up Ezri Konsa in tonight’s win over PSG.

Villa went into tonight’s Champions League game 3-1 down on aggregate, with the 3-2 win not quite enough to defeat the Ligue 1 leaders.

Unfortunately an early mistake from Rashford led to PSG securing a goal in the 11th minute as a poor touch led to a counter attack ending in Achraf Hakimi scoring.

However, Rashford redeemed himself with a stand out performance, earning praise from former teammate Wayne Rooney and former Premier League striker Daniel Sturridge.

Marcus Rashford receives praise for in-form loan spell with Aston Villa

Speaking on Amazon Prime, Sturridge heaped significant praise on Rashford, discussing his loan move, saying: “The narrative before he came here was that he’s not the same player any more.”

He continued: “That was the narrative. He’s proven everyone wrong.”

“We have to give him credit. There was a big narrative out there that Marcus Rashford is not the same player, and Ruben Amorim was correct about everything. But Marcus Rashford has come here and shown everybody this is who I am, and this is how I play. This is what I can bring to the table.

“As a football player, sometimes when a manager doesn’t fancy you, it’s up to you to show them: ‘I am good enough’. This is what I can do. Sometimes you are not going to get the love from the manager, and you have to go on loan or fight for my spot.

“[Marcus] has chosen to come here and it has worked out for him. Sometimes you make these decisions and it goes the other way. I’m really proud of him that he’s come here and shown everybody what it is all about.”

Adding to these points raised by the former attacker, Rooney commented on Villa’s need to secure Champions League football to retain top players like Rashford, despite his desire to see the attacker back at Old Trafford.

Rooney commented: “This is what I was saying before about Aston Villa needing Champions League to attract top players. And Marcus Rashford clearly feels he has a better chance of performing better and winning trophies with Aston Villa.”

He continued: “That’s a big worry for Manchester United, but for Aston Villa, that’s a positive sign. From Marcus Rashford’s point of view, I really want to see him like he was tonight, showing all his qualities.”

  • Man sentenced for killing co-worker because he believed he had been intimate with his girlfriend

OREGON CITY, Ore. (TCN) — A man and his girlfriend, both 27, will spend time behind bars for killing a 25-year-old man in what prosecutors said was “an act fueled by jealousy.”

In a news release posted April 14, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office said Cody Denewith pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault with a firearm in connection with the death of Nathan Anderson, his former co-worker. He was subsequently sentenced to 240 months in prison for manslaughter and 90 months for assault. He will serve 27 1/2 years, but prosecutors said a “provision allows him to earn credit that could slightly reduce his term.”

Denewith’s girlfriend, Dominique Britt, previously pleaded guilty in December to first-degree manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon, and she received a sentence of 150 months in prison.

According to the district attorney’s office, on April 29, 2024, Denewith shot Anderson in the abdomen three times. Anderson was transported to a hospital and pronounced deceased upon his arrival.

Denewith reportedly believed Anderson, whom he had worked with at Dave’s Killer Bread, had been “sexually intimate” with Britt.

Days before the fatal shooting, police responded to Britt and Denewith’s apartment for a domestic call and arrested Denewith. While Denewith was in jail, Britt allegedly claimed Anderson had sexually assaulted her. Prosecutors said Denewith became “consumed by the belief that it had happened” and “fixated” on killing the victim.

On the day of the fatal shooting, Denewith reportedly sent his girlfriend a text message asking her to “pack him clothing and his ‘toy’ from upstairs,” which was their code work for a Sig Sauer P365 handgun. According to the district attorney’s office, Britt told later officials she did as her boyfriend asked and gave him the gun knowing Denewith planned to shoot and kill Anderson.

Denewith and Britt were initially charged with second-degree murder. Prosecutors noted that Denewith was previously convicted in 2022 of felon in possession of a firearm out of Clatsop County and convicted of burglary in Oklahoma in 2016.

  • FBI arrests ‘arson attacks’ suspect over firebombing GOP, Tesla

The U.S. Justice Department announced on Monday that the suspect behind the recent “arson attacks” against the Republican Party of New Mexico’s headquarters and the Tesla Albuquerque Showroom has been arrested by the FBI and charged by the Justice Department.

In a Monday press release, the Justice Department said federal charges had been filed against 40-year-old Jamison Wagner over the recent “arson attacks” that targeted the state GOP headquarters and the Tesla facility. The Justice Department explained that the 40-year-old suspect had been linked to both arson incidents through scene evidence and surveillance footage.

“Let this be the final lesson to those taking part in this ongoing wave of political violence,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in Monday’s press release. “We will arrest you, we will prosecute you, and we will not negotiate. Crimes have consequences.”

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche noted that “hurling firebombs” is not considered “political protest” but is a “dangerous felony that we will prosecute to the maximum extent.”

Blanche added, “The impressive work by law enforcement in New Mexico sends a clear message to perpetrators of all of the shameful attacks on Tesla facilities and political establishments: we are coming for you, you can’t hide, and you will do serious jail time to pay for your crimes.”

According to the Justice Department, the first arson attack occurred on February 9 and involved two Tesla vehicles at the Tesla Albuquerque Showroom being targeted with an incendiary device. Investigators discovered an “intact glass container containing an improvised napalm material” in one of the vehicles. The Justice Department added that the outside of the Tesla facility and six other vehicles were covered in graffiti, including swastikas and the words “Die Tesla Nazi,” “Die Elon,” and “Tesla Nazi Inc.”

In Monday’s press release, the Justice Department said the second arson attack occurred on March 30 at the New Mexico GOP headquarters. The Justice Department explained that the fire “significantly damaged the front door and entry area” and that the phrase “ICE = KKK” was spray-painted on the GOP headquarters building.

Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel confirmed that Wagner’s arrest is part of the agency’s “aggressive efforts to investigate and hold accountable those who have targeted Tesla facilities in various states across the country.”

Patel added, “Under Attorney General Bondi’s leadership, we will continue to locate and arrest those responsible for these acts of domestic terrorism, and the FBI will work with partners at the Department of Justice to ensure such lawbreakers face justice.”

  • Roll cancels reportedly not available for Capcom vs. SNK 2 online in the Capcom Fighting Collection 2

We’re now just over a month away from the release of the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 that’ll bring back eight classic titles for modern systems.

It appears that some creators have gotten early access to the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 and are now sharing what is (and seemingly isn’t) available in the compilation.

Tyrant was among those who have the game ahead of launch, and he made a pretty interesting discovery that’ll have a big impact on hardcore players.

He reports that roll cancels will not be available to use in Capcom vs. SNK 2 in the game’s online ranked mode in the collection.

Roll cancel is the famous bug that defines the high-level CvS2 meta in the competitive scene, and it’ll be interesting to see the reaction of the community to this decision.

Certain grooves in the game give characters access to a roll with invincibility frames, which can be canceled in the first two frames to give special moves those invincibility frames.

This removal is not from a bug fix exactly since roll cancels can still be used in offline modes, but rather the version of the game used.

Tyrant found the ranked mode of Capcom vs. SNK 2 uses the later EO release that made changes to the original including removing roll cancels.

How the competitive community will respond and whether that may change the CvS2 version used in tournaments remains to be seen, but online, it seems the only option is going to be EO.

The Capcom Fighting Collection 2 features Capcom vs. SNK, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, Star Gladiator, Plasma Sword Power Stone, and Power Stone 2 on the compilation.

A title update was also just announced for the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection that adds a bunch of new features and quality of life enhancements to the game this week, and much of those are said to also be coming to the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 as well as the original collection.

The Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is set to release on May 16 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

You can find Tyrant’s full thoughts on the collection so far below where CvS2 is the last game covered.

  • Bulldogs end regular season with extra-inning win over Flomaton, 4-3

Bulldogs end regular season with extra-inning win over Flomaton, 4-3

    Published 3:05 pm Tuesday, April 15, 2025

After falling at home to Charles Henderson on Friday, the Andalusia Bulldogs rebounded to end the regular season on a high note with a 4-3 extra-inning win over Flomaton Monday.

As the 5A Area 3 champions, the Bulldogs will host Faith Acacemy Friday to begin the playoffs.

    Andalusia 4

    Florala 3

Flomaton and Andalusia battled throughout the game with the score tied until the ninth inning. A wild pitch that allowed Connor Ray to score in the top of the seventh broke the tie and a double-play in the bottom of the inning secured the Bulldog victory.

Andalusia struck first in the top of the second. Landen Butler led off the inning with a walk and a single by Kielan Davis put two on for the Bulldogs. A one-out double off the bat of Sawyer Hardy brought both runners home for a 2-0 lead. Hardy scored later on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0.

Flomaton got on the board in the bottom of the third with some clutch hitting. With two outs, Harper Harrison hit a double to centerfield and scored on a single by Ross Bell. Another double, this one by Michael Wedgeworth, scored Bell to cut the Bulldog lead to 3-2.

Flomaton tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Braden Nall.

While Andalusia threatened in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded, the score remained tied to send the game into extra innings.

The Bulldogs opened the ninth inning with a single by Connor Ray and he moved to second on a sacrfice by Hardy. A grounder by Mason Sheridan moved Ray to third with two outs. A wild pitch led to Connor scoring what would prove to be the winning run.

Davis and Ray each ended the game with two hits and two runs scored. Hardy hit a double for two RBI.

The Bulldogs used three pitchers in the game. Asher Bently got the start, going four innings, surrendering seven hits with two strikeouts. Charlie Walsh pitched two innings with two strikeouts and Davis pitched the final three innings, recording one strikeout.

    Andalusia 1

    Charles Henderson 3

Charles Henderson jumped out to a quick lead after a lead-off walk followed by a fielding error and a single led to the first run coming across the plate. Andalusia escaped the inning with no more damage done with a double play initiated by second baseman Asher Bentley and turned at second base by shortstop Riley Cravey.

After a quiet second inning, the Trojans made the score 2-0 with two doubles in the third.

The Bulldogs and pitcher Landen Butler held Charles Henderson at two runs over the next three innings. Andalusia managed to push a run across in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game, 2-1. Butler led off the inning with a walk. With one out, Kielan Davis drew a walk and Connor Ray reached by being hit by a pitch, loading the bases for the Bulldogs with two outs. Neilex Ferrell, who came in as pinch runner for Butler, tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mason Sheridan. A fielder’s choice ended the Bulldogs’ chance to tie the game.

Charles Henderson scored another run in the top of the sixth with two walks and a single, increasing their lead back to two runs, 3-1.

The Bulldogs managed to work the bases full in the bottom of the sixth, but could not push a run home. In the seventh, Ray led off with a single, but a double play followed by another groundball ended the hope for a late comeback.

Ray, Row Thorn and Grover Wells each had one single for the Bulldogs. Sheridan’s sacrifice fly was the only RBI of the game. Butler and Davis each recorded two walks.

Butler pitched five innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs. Charlie Walsh pitched the final two innings, allowing three hits and no runs.
