  • Navy Destroys Eight Illegal Bunkering Sites In Ondo

No fewer than eight illegal bunkering sites have been uncovered by the Nigerian Navy at the Obe-Akinboye seaside community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Commanding Officer of the Forward Operating Base, Igbokoda, Captain Aliyu Usman, said the operation was executed by personnel of the Base in the early hours of Tuesday.

Usman attributed the discovery to a robust intelligence network and the vigilance of naval personnel in their fight against maritime crime and economic sabotage within their area of operation.

He stated that the Quick Response Team of the Base stationed at a nearby Naval Security Outpost was immediately mobilised to conduct the raid when intelligence was received about the illegal refining camps.

The Commanding Officer said the perpetrators fled the illegal bunkering sites when the Naval Assault team approached the area.

Usman said, “Upon inspection, the team uncovered eight illegal refining camps containing several storage tanks and reservoirs filled with an estimated 50,000 litres of stolen crude oil.

“In addition, the camps were equipped with crude oil theft-related equipment, including three wooden boats used to convey the stolen products, pumping machines, and discharge pipes.

“The eight illegal refining sites and associated items were handled in accordance with extant directives from Defence Headquarters.”

“The operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (Admiralty Medal), for naval bases to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s waters and actively pursue those undermining Nigeria’s maritime resources.”

He warned all criminals and economic saboteurs operating in the area to desist from their activities.

  • Warriors beat Grizzlies in play-in behind Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler

SAN FRANCISCO – The seventh-seeded Warriors entered Tuesday night’s game at Chase Center looking to move past their wretched play-in past. Facing them was a familiar foe.

The Memphis Grizzlies, four years prior, had eliminated the Warriors from the 2021 play-in tournament. It was a loss that contributed to Golden State’s 0-3 record in the round in three trips.

To break through and outlast Memphis 121-116, Golden State followed the formula that fueled its second-half turnaround.

Jimmy Butler led the team in scoring with 38, and Steph Curry made two back-breaking late 3-pointers to help the Warriors survive a spirited last-second Memphis push.

“Playoff Jimmy” starred at the power forward spot in Golden State’s rollercoaster victory, one that saw star Ja Morant sustain an ankle injury late in the third quarter but re-enter the game as the Grizzlies gave Golden State everything it could handle.

Curry scored a crucial 37 points and the Warriors bench scored 30 to clinch a first-round playoff series with No. 2 seed Houston.

Game 1 will be in Texas on Sunday. Memphis will host the winner of tomorrow night’s Sacramento-Dallas matchup on Friday in a win-or-go-home game.

The Warriors may have won, but it was no walk in the Golden Gate Park.

After enjoying a lead as large as 20, the Grizzlies cut the deficit to just four late in the third.

The Grizzlies endured a major blow when Morant went down holding his ankle after making a floater and landing on Buddy Hield’s foot with 4:25 left in the third quarter. He made the free throw, and then left the game until early in the fourth period.

Memphis cut the deficit to just 94-91 entering the fourth quarter, and took a 96-94 lead a minute into the final period on a Desmond Bane 3-pointer.

The teams traded baskets, with the Warriors enjoying a 109-105 lead with five minutes remaining before Memphis cut it to just one with another Bane three.

  • Trans woman drowned in ravine as people filmed her and told others ‘don’t help her’ (video)

A trans woman drowned while people filmed and refused to save her because of her gender identity.

Sara Millerey González was r@ped, had her arms and legs broken before being thrown into Colombian river, according to Amnesty International.

On April 4, her body was found in the La García ravine that winds through the Playa Rica neighbourhood of Bella.

Officials believe she was beaten by locals, possibly with ties to criminal gangs.

At about 3pm, Sara’s mother, Sandra Borja, received a phone call from her sister telling her that her daughter was drowning in a creek.

She found Sara clinging to a branch, the muddy waters of the river crashing against her back.

Rather than help, a group of locals were filming her plead for help on their phones.

Those filming told passersby not to help Sara, a relative told El Colombiano.

“There were some guys standing there, also with their cell phones recording what was happening to her, and they said not to help her,” they recalled.

“So there was fear of intervening for fear of being shot. It was necessary for the police to intervene.”

The video of Sara drowning went viral on social media. The clip appeared to show someone in knee-high muddy water, her face visibly wounded, flailing around and unable to move their arms.

“My first reaction was to throw myself into the river,” the victim’s mother, Sandra, told EL PAÍS.

“I shouted to her: ‘Sweetheart, sweetheart, hold tight, hold on to that branch!’”

“Mum, I’m going to die,” Sara told Sandra.

Sara was rescued by firefighters who took her to La María Hospital in central Bello, but she d!ed the following day, having developed hyperthermia. Her lungs were punctured and she suffered two cardiac arrests.

She was 32. Dozens attended her funeral on April 8.

The government has offered 50 million pesos (about £8,800) for information about Sara’s de@th.

President Gustavo Petro described Sara’s de@th as “fascism”.

“I’m criticised for speaking about Nazism. I know perfectly well that fascism is the violent elimination of human differences: political, religious, ethnic, sexual freedom,” he posted on X.

“What happened in Bello is called fascism, because there are Nazis in Colombia.”

“She was the victim of an atrocious and hateful act,” added Bello Mayor Lorena González Ospina on X.

Ospina said that the video of Sara fighting for her life going viral underscores the “indifference” some people have towards trans lives.

“We cannot allow transphobia to keep taking lives in silence,” she said.

  • Pakistan deports about 60,000 Afghan refugees

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said on Tuesday that Pakistan has deported about 60,000 Afghan refugees through two border points in the last 13 days.

The IOM disclosed this in a statement in Geneva, Switzerland.

“Between April 1 and 13, IOM recorded a sharp rise in forced returns, with nearly 60,000 individuals crossing back into Afghanistan through the Tokham and Spin Boldak border points,” the statement read.

The agency added that more than 2.43 million undocumented Afghan migrants have returned to their homeland, Afghanistan, from neighbouring Pakistan and Iran since September 2023.

It added that most of them were repatriated forcibly.

The Pakistani government is set to deport three million Afghans to their home country in 2025.

Reportedly, about 7 million Afghan refugees, most of whom are undocumented migrants, are currently living abroad, with most living in Afghanistan’s neighbours – Pakistan and Iran.

  • P/Harcourt, Warri Refineries Reduced PMS Import By 30 Million Litres- NMDPRA

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has said that imports of Premium Motor Spirit, dropped by 67 per cent which is an equivalent of 30 million litres.

The authority said importation fell from 44.6 million litres a day in August 2024 to 14.7 million litres by 13 April 2025.

The Chief Executive Officer, of NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, said this on Tuesday during a briefing in Aso Villa.

He attributed the development to increase in local supply which he said rose 670 per cent within that period.

He said local refineries delivered 26.2 million per day in early April.

This represents an increase from the 3.4 million litres recorded in September.

Farouk attributed the rise to the restart of the Port Harcourt Refining Company and increased volumes from modular refineries.

In November, consumption was 56 million litres and February 52.3 million litres.

In March, it slipped just below 50 million litres target at 51.5 million liters

In the first half of April, consumption was 40.9 million litres.

  • Judge orders federal agencies to release billions of dollars from two Biden-era initiatives

    By MICHAEL CASEY

BOSTON (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the Trump administration to release billions of dollars meant to finance climate and infrastructure projects across the country.

The 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provided $550 billion in new infrastructure investments, but is set to expire in 2026. Another $30 billion came from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, including for projects focused on clean energy and climate change.

Administration officials have said the decision to halt loans and grants funded by these two laws and others was necessary to ensure that spending complies with Trump’s recent blitz of executive orders. The Republican president wants to increase fossil fuel production, remove protections for transgender people and end diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
