  • Bayern Munich midfielder offered to Manchester United

Manchester United’s midfield remains a key priority under Ruben Amorim as the summer transfer window looms.

With the midfield performances recently coming under scrutiny, Amorim is keen on adding more energy and dynamism to the squad, and also looking to move on several players.

United’s scouting network has been working overtime, particularly focusing on defensive midfielders who can provide stability and add a new dimension to the team.

With a host of top midfield targets on the horizon, Amorim and his team are also considering options that have a proven track record in the Premier League.

After a difficult first season at Bayern Munich, it looks like Joao Palhinha’s agent is working to get his client back to the Premier League.

According to CaughtOffside, the Portugal international is likely to be offered to the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

Having struggled for regular playing time at Bayern, Palhinha’s representatives look to be exploring a return to England, with other top-flight clubs such as West Ham, Nottingham Forest, and his former club Fulham also possibly among the teams to watch out for.

Bayern could be prepared to let Joao Palhinha go after just one season, with the Bundesliga giants instead prioritising a new contract for Leon Goretzka as he forms a key part of their midfield.

Joao Palhinha was immense during his time at Fulham, and it’s easy to see why Premier League links are emerging ahead of the summer.

There is nothing concrete just yet, but it is understood that a return to the Premier League is Palhinha’s priority, and big names like Arsenal and United are likely to be approached to assess their interest in a potential deal.

The 29-year-old looked like he would be a fine signing for Bayern, but it just hasn’t quite worked out for him, even if he’ll still surely have admirers in England.

Palhinha would surely be welcomed back to Craven Cottage, but it’s also easy to imagine him being a major upgrade on someone like Casemiro at Old Trafford.

Arsenal, meanwhile, might also do well to consider Palhinha if he is indeed offered to them, as they have both Thomas Partey and Jorginho out of contract this summer.

  • Enrique Proud Of PSG’s Champions League Semi-Final Qualification

PSG coach Luis Enrique has showered praises on his players for booking a place in the last four of the 2024-25 Champions League despite their 3-2 loss to Aston Villa.

The French champions advanced thanks to a 5-4 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 3-1 in France.

PSG raced to a 2-0 lead in the first 27 minutes courtesy of Achraf Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes stunning strikes.

Aston Villa fought back to take a 3-2 lead in the second half thanks to goals from Youri Tielemans, John Mcginn, and Eric Konsa.

PSG goalkeeper produced a stunning performance with several impressive second half saved to deny Aston Villa a memorable comeback victory.

Luis Enrique hailed his squad as the best in the world after holding on to book their second semi-final in two years in the Champions League.

He said, “I think I have the best squad in the world, not only the goalkeeper. When you are in a club like PSG, you have a lot of quality players.

“I think in the whole two matches, we deserved to win. I am very happy because I can offer our supporters another qualification to the semi-final.

“We started the game in a great way, scoring two amazing goals, trying to take advantage of the spaces.

“In the second half, we suffered; it was very difficult. But I think we have to be prepared for that, our team, our players and our fans. And I would like to thank them, as they are with us and support us every day. We are very happy; we are in the semi-finals for the second year in a row. I think that’s a very good thing.

“They didn’t have anything to lose because they lost the first match and were losing at halftime in the first half (of the second leg).

“We cannot forget, this is the Champions League and you have to accept that the opposite team has a lot of quality. Aston Villa played with a lot of intensity in the second half.

“They didn’t have anything to lose because they lost the first match and were losing at halftime in the first half (of the second leg).”

Similarly, Aston Villa coach, Unai Emery was proud of his team’s performance despite failing to advance.

He said, “I am very proud of everything we did in the Champions League.

“It is now most important to get Europe again. The most important competition is the Champions League. The challenge we have for the last six matches (of the Premier League) is to try and get Europe and the Champions League.

PSG failed to win a UEFA Champions League game despite leading by 2 goals for the first time since March 2001 (4-3 loss vs Deportivo de La Coruña), having won 56 successive matches prior to the defeat against Aston Villa.

Luis Enrique’s side are in the hunt for a historic treble after sealing the French Ligue 1 title, and the French Cup. They will battle it out with the winner between Arsenal, and Real Madrid in the semi-final.

  • Luke Taylor: ‘Thames Water is failing, Ofwat is toothless — and the public is paying the price’

Well, I don’t imagine I made a lot of friends at Thames Water when I spent twenty minutes on my feet lambasting them in Westminster Hall at the start of April.

But I promised my constituents that I would fight for them every day in parliament on the issues that matter to them most. For many, that means holding failing companies to account who are making our lives, and our environment, much poorer. By that measure, Thames Water is certainly among the worst of a bad bunch.

Years of historic underinvestment in favour of profit has run the business into the ground. It now finds itself on the brink of collapse despite a financial lifeline that it ought not to have been awarded, when a court last month allowed the company to take on another three billion pounds of debt.

So you can imagine my frustration when recently, US private equity group KKR was selected as the preferred bidder to bail out Thames Water — a company whose involvement with Northumbrian Water has covered their reputation more in sludge than in glory.

Enough is enough. A company of this importance should not be allowed to carry on such a self-destructive and brazenly careless path. The government, in not stepping in, is allowing a failing company to lurch from crisis to crisis whilst slowly drowning in ever greater debt. The only flow being successfully managed is the flow of cash into the pockets of bankers, advisors, lawyers and private equity. Meanwhile bills are up and sewage continues to breach into our waterways at dangerous levels.

If I seemed harsh in my assessment of the company in Westminster Hall, it’s because I genuinely cannot fathom why we are allowing the situation to go on as it is. The government must step up, take the lead, and put the company into special administration.

It’s clear that without doing that — we’re sleepwalking into a major failure of the company. The government has been quick to reassure us that essential services would not be disrupted in the event of a collapse – but that’s cold comfort when we should all be expecting a lot more from utility companies than just keeping the tap water running. That is quite literally the bare minimum the British people expect.

What we all want to see is the adults in the room stepping in to stop infrastructure creaking, sewage spilling and bills rising.

Ofwat certainly isn’t able to compel these changes. The regulator is increasingly toothless and unable to enforce any meaningful changes or penalties. It is standing idly by whilst shareholders and executives profit from a declining system. It should be scrapped and replaced with a regulator that is unafraid, and well equipped, to do enforcement seriously.

But there isn’t enough time to simply wait for a new regulator to take its place. So the only solution is the one the government seems most reluctant to admit — that it should take temporary control of Thames Water to reset its activities, restructure its management and refocus its mission.

Because let’s be clear — that is what has fundamentally gone wrong at the heart of Thames Water. It is not just that they are a failing commercial enterprise, they are quite evidently an organisation that has lost the public service part of their mission — becoming instead a paragon of failure, debt and daylight robbery, all in the name of profit — and we are all suffering as a result.

  • Ukraine calls in Hogan Lovells for US minerals deal

    Washington partners drafted in

Hogan Lovells has been drafted in by the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice to advise on negotiations with the US over a potentially massive minerals agreement — one that would likely secure US support and investment into Ukraine.

The firm’s involvement was revealed through a filing under the US Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) register, which confirms Hogan Lovells’ US arm will provide legal advice on “international trade and US policy issues” linked to the deal. The formal engagement was signed on 8 April 2025 and submitted to the US Department of Justice the following day.

According to the paperwork, Hogan’s Washington-based partners, Deen Kaplan and Adam Kushner, will lead the work — both billing at $1,500 an hour.

The filing reportedly coincides with the start of technical talks in Washington between US and Ukrainian officials, as part of a wider effort to agree terms for an investment fund that would manage revenue from Ukraine’s mineral wealth.

But politics has complicated the path forward. A planned signing ceremony at the end of February was famously derailed after a heated Oval Office row between Zelensky and Donald Trump, who accused the Ukrainian leader of showing insufficient gratitude for US support and allegedly told him, “You don’t have the cards.” Trump subsequently paused all military aid to Ukraine, and said Zelensky could “come back when he is ready for peace”.

The political backdrop remains tense. Trump has repeatedly claimed the US has given Ukraine between $300 billion (£237 billion) and $350 billion (£276 billion) in aid, and has framed the minerals deal as a way for America to “get that money back”.

The 2025 Legal Cheek Firms Most List

Zelensky, meanwhile, has been pushing for the agreement to include a firm US security guarantee, something he views as essential amid continued Russian aggression. No such guarantee has been offered so far, although the published draft text states that the US supports “Ukraine’s efforts to obtain security guarantees to build lasting peace”.

This deal will see Hogan’s US heavyweights attempt to pick up the pieces and negotiate against the White House to facilitate the agreement on behalf of Ukraine.

This latest activity by Hogan Lovells follows scrutiny from the Trump administration, which launched a sweeping probe last month into the DEI policies at 20 major law firms, including Hogan Lovells itself. The firm, alongside other global firms such as A&O Shearman and Freshfields, is now facing demands from the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to hand over detailed records on hiring and compensation practices.

According to Law.com (£), the firm responded by renaming its “diversity, equity and inclusion” pages to “HL Inclusion”, removing references to LGBTQ+, disability and “institutional racism”, and replacing its DEI video with a message from its CEO.

  • How to Generate AI Videos Using Google’s Veo 2 for Free

While Google has finally released video generation on Gemini using the Veo 2 AI model, it requires a paid Google One AI Premium subscription, which costs $19.99 per month. However, on Google’s AI Studio, video generation using Veo 2 is completely free. AI Studio is meant for developers to test AI models, but general users can also try upcoming models and explore new capabilities.

You don’t need technical expertise to use the AI Studio platform. Just sign in with your free Google account, and you can generate videos using the Veo 2 model for free in nearly all regions. Here is how to go about it.

    • Head to aistudio.google.com/generate-video and sign in with your Google account.
    • Now, make sure “Veo 2” is selected in the drop-down menu on the right pane.
    • You can also choose the aspect ratio and video duration that goes up to 8 seconds.
    • Now, simply enter a detailed prompt to generate videos using Veo 2 for free.
    • I added a detailed prompt to generate a video showing a spacecraft entering the Earth’s orbit.
    • Within a minute, an impressive 8-second video clip in 720p resolution was generated for free. You can check out the video clip below.

By the way, you can also upload an image and animate it to create a video using Veo 2 for free. And under the Negative prompt, you can mention elements that you want to avoid in the video. So yes, this is how you can produce AI-generated videos for free using Google’s state-of-the-art Veo 2 model.

I have tested OpenAI’s Sora model for video generation, and I can say that Google’s Veo 2 is much better, as it has a far better understanding of physics and motion. Of course, there is a rate limit for free users, but Google hasn’t disclosed it explicitly. I would say, go ahead and try Veo 2, and you will be amazed seeing the video quality.
