    With profound love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Carole Anne Crowder-King, born in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1946, and raised in Spokane, Washington. Carole was the cherished daughter of Harry Crowder and Katrina McNorton. With the inspiration of her older brothers, Fr. John Hopkins and Dr. Charles Hopkins II, she developed a spirit of service and excellence.

    After moving to Seattle, Carole’s nurturing spirit and deep compassion led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1974, a Master of Science in Nursing in 1999, and a 40-year practice in healthcare.

    Carole’s faith and love of music enriched her life. She was a dedicated member of St. Therese Catholic Church for over 40 years, singing joyfully with the Shades of Praise Choir and many other gospel groups. Her name, meaning “joyful song and free person,” perfectly reflected her spirit. Her love of purple and butterflies symbolized her beauty, nobility, and transformative spirit.

    Carole is survived by her devoted husband, Donald King; children NaKenge, Ayana, Antonia, and Angela; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Sinaya, Hyker, Hunter, Dane, Sebastian, Ronan, Alphonse, and Flora; brother Harry Collier; sons-in-law Wade, Poul, and Andrew; sisters-in-law Roberta, Martha, and Marian; and numerous beloved family and friends.

    A celebration of Carole’s life will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church – 926 35th Ave., Seattle, WA 98122 on Saturday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m., with a reception to follow, where all who loved her are welcomed to join in honoring her beautiful spirit.

    Carole Crowder-King, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, healer, singer, and servant of the Lord, is now singing with the angels. Her melody will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched.

  • Manchester United make final decision on Marcus Rashford future

    Manchester United wantaway Marcus Rashford has been rejuvenated during his loan spell with Aston Villa, as the attacker is once more finding his form.

    With three goals and six assists in 15 games, Rashford is not only excelling at club level but also has regained his spot in the England national squad under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

    The United academy graduate has now claimed to have “never been happier” since arriving at Villa Park, with The Villains having the option to make is temporary move permanent.

    The loan deal was agreed in the winter transfer window with an option to buy for £40 million, with Villa still undecided on whether to commit to the purchase or not.

    It’s understood that the main sticking point to the deal is Rashford’s £325,000 per week wages, which have put off a range of suitors, including Europe’s elite like PSG and Barcelona.

    Now, United could be faced with a £20 million payoff just to get Rashford to accept a drop in wages to join Villa, if they wish to keep him.

    If not, he’ll be headed back to Old Trafford, with The Red Devils now set on his future if such an occasion arises.

    Marcus Rashford has no future with Manchester United

    GiveMeSport has reported that if Rashford does return to United, the club will be looking for other buyers, with Rashford seemingly having no future now at Old Trafford.

    The only way this would change would be for Ruben Amorim to demand he stay, fitting into his squad remodel set to take place in the summer, although this is extremely unlikely.

    The pair parted on poor terms with Rashford having been dropped from the squad for 12 games under Amorim after announcing he wanted a new challenge.

    Now, United are looking to stand by his wishes and make sure that, should he return to his parent club, it won’t be for long.

    Canada Waives Retaliatory Tariffs On US-Made Cars And Trucks

    (ZH) – The first skirmish in the US-China trade war just concluded and John Carney is left licking his wounds.

    Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his government will allow automakers to import US-manufactured cars and trucks without tariffs, as long as the companies continue to build cars in Canada, and continued with previously announced expansions. Which of course, they all will vow to do – after all, there is no downside to a promise – meaning Canada just conceded to a key Trump demands.

    Last week, Carney put retaliatory tariffs of as much as 25% on vehicles made in the US, effectively matching an earlier move by US President Donald Trump on foreign autos.

    The move provides relief from the trade war to companies including General Motors and Stellantis that have assembly plants in Ontario but still export large quantities of vehicles from the US into Canada.

    Commenting on the capitulation, Rabobank’s Michael Every writes that “Canada will now let automakers import US-assembled cars and trucks tariff-free if they preserve domestic manufacturing. This isn’t being heralded as a Carney “retreat” and “fold”, of course. But in economic statecraft terms, it’s clear Canada had, and has, no real choice.”

    “Our counter-tariffs won’t apply if they continue to produce, continue to employ, continue to invest in Canada,” Carney told reporters at a news conference. But if a manufacturer cuts production or investment in Canada, the number of tariff-free vehicles it will be permitted to import will be reduced, Canada’s Finance Department said in a news release.

    François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s finance minister, did not specify in his statement exactly how many U.S.-made cars and trucks each of the five major automakers would be allowed to import without tariffs. But his statement suggested that those numbers would be linked to Canadian manufacturing: “The number of tariff-free vehicles a company is permitted to import will be reduced if there are reductions in Canadian production or investment.”

    While the great majority of Canadian-made cars and trucks end up in the United States, Trump has repeatedly said that he wants carmakers to move all of their manufacturing to the United States, a move widely seen in Canada as a direct assault on the country’s largest export aside from oil and gas.

    Auto trade between the United States and Canada has become tightly integrated since the two countries signed a trade deal 60 years ago that eased the flow of vehicles and related goods across the border.

    Only Toyota and Honda, which account for about two-thirds of Canadian auto production, are currently operating at or near full capacity in Canada.

    Stellantis recently stopped renovating a factory in the Toronto suburb of Brampton that would have made gasoline and electric Jeeps, in what the company described as a pause. Its larger plant, in Windsor, Ontario, is in the middle of a two-week shutdown that was induced by the U.S. tariffs.

    Ford’s factory in Oakville, Ontario, was closed for a now-abandoned plan to convert it for electric vehicles. It is now retooling to make large pickups. And General Motors announced that it would largely shut down production of a poor-selling electric van made in Ingersoll, Ontario, until October.

    But the winning blow in this particular trade war battle came from Japanese media outlet Nikkei which reported that Honda Motor is looking at shifting some of its auto production from Canada and Mexico into the US, with a goal of having 90% of its US vehicles sales produced locally.

    Honda currently builds CR-V and Civic vehicles at a plant in Alliston, Ontario, and last year it announced a C$15 billion ($10.8 billion) long-term plan to build out an electric-vehicle supply chain in Canada — with significant help from taxpayers.

    Anita Anand, the industry minister, was scheduled to meet with the head of Honda’s Canadian division on Tuesday, according to a statement. “We are in close contact with the company, and Honda has communicated that no such production decisions affecting Canadian operations have been made, and are not being considered at this time,” her office said by email.

    A Honda spokesperson said by email that the plant “will operate at full capacity for the foreseeable future and no changes are being considered at this time.”

    Carney, currently campaigning for the national election on April 28, told reporters that he and other government ministers have had a number of conversations with the executives of global automakers.

    “We are very seized with the issues” around the auto tariffs, Carney said, pointing to a campaign promise he made to set up a C$2 billion fund to help strengthen the Canadian auto supply chain. Whoever wins the election will need to negotiate with Trump on a broader strategy to resolve the tariff war, he said.

    Canada currently has 25% counter-tariffs on about C$60 billion worth of US products, aside from autos. Those taxes are hitting a wide range of US steel and aluminum products, plus items such as tools, computers and consumer goods.

    The exemptions announced Tuesday will provide a break to Canadian businesses that rely on US inputs, as well to institutions such as hospitals, long-term care facilities and fire departments, the government said.

  • Miami nurse guilty of abusing and torturing 3 adopted daughters, killing 7-year-old

    MIAMI (TCN) — A jury found a 56-year-old former nurse guilty of abusing and torturing her three adopted daughters, one of whom later died.

    Miami-Dade County court records show Gina Emmanuel was convicted of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse in connection with the death of a 7-year-old girl and abuse of two others. WTVJ-TV reports the deceased victim, Samaya, died from acute and chronic physical abuse. The medical examiner noted she had injuries throughout her entire body.

    According to WPLG-TV, on Nov. 3, 2019, paramedics responded to Emmanuel’s house on West Dixie Highway after receiving a call that Samaya was unresponsive. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died. Homicide detectives reportedly saw bruises and marks on Samaya’s body, so they contacted the Department of Children and Families, who opened an investigation. Officials found signs of abuse on the other two daughters.

    WPLG reports the children told investigators that Emmanuel beat them with belts, burned their hands on hot stoves, covered their eyes with socks, forced them to stand for long periods of time, and made them sleep on the floor sometimes. On one occasion, Samaya and her sister reportedly ate bread that Emmanuel put aside for her son, so she put their hands on a hot stove and forced their other sister to watch. Their hands were reportedly “permanently disfigured as a result.”

    At her trial, prosecutors argued Emmanuel “kept her refrigerator chained. These three girls were forced to urinate and defecate in a bucket. they were malnourished, whipped.” WPLG reports Emmanuel also refused to get them medical care. Pneumonia contributed to Samaya’s death.

    Miami-Dade County State’s Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a statement following the verdict, “The guilty verdict in Gina Emmanuel’s first-degree murder and child abuse trial brought to the light of day the horrors 7-year-old Samaya so tragically suffered before her death. No one could ever imagine that a trained nurse would beat, torture, and starve Samaya and her two adopted sisters as a means of instilling the defendant’s vision of discipline.”

    The statement continued, “The jury fully understood that she ultimately ignored the suffering of young Samaya, which led to this child’s death. One should admire the courage it took for Samaya’s sister, 12 years old at the time of the abuse, to come forward and testify in court, before judges, lawyers, jurors, and others in order for the truth to be told.”

  • Top anti-Trump official hit with criminal referral

    President Donald Trump’s administration referred Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James to the U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday for potential mortgage fraud prosecution.

    According to documents obtained by “The Ingraham Angle” on Fox News, the Federal Housing Finance Agency sent a criminal referral to the Justice Department on Tuesday regarding reporters of mortgage fraud linked to the New York attorney general. In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte accused James of allegedly falsifying records to meet loan requirements and receive better loan terms.

    The criminal referral accused James of providing “falsified records” to receive home loans for a Virginia property that she allegedly claimed as her “principal residence” in 2023.

    “Ms. James was the sitting Attorney General of New York and is required by law to have her primary residence in the state of New York — even though her mortgage applications list her intent to have the Norfolk, VA, property as her primary home,” Pulte wrote.

    Pulte added, “It appears Ms. James’ property and mortgage-related misrepresentations may have continued to her recent 2023 Norfolk, VA property purchase in order to secure a lower interest rate and more favorable loan terms.”

    Pulte’s letter also referenced a five-family residence in Brooklyn, New York, that James purchased in February of 2001. Pulte claimed that James has “consistently misrepresented the same property as only having four units in both building permit applications and numerous mortgage documents and applications.”

    Pulte told Bondi and Blanche, “Ms. James, for both properties listed above, appears to have falsified records in order to meet certain lending requirements and receive favorable loan terms.”

    Tuesday’s letter also said James purchased another property and had her father listed as a co-signer; however, the documents from 1983 and 2000 had James and her father listed as “husband and wife.”

    According to The New York Post, Pulte’s letter indicated that James’ actions could lead to criminal charges of wire fraud, bank fraud, mail fraud, and false statements made to a financial institution.

    In a statement obtained by The New York Post following Tuesday’s criminal referral, a James spokesperson said, “Attorney General James is focused every single day on protecting New Yorkers, especially as this Administration weaponizes the federal government against the rule of law and the Constitution. She will not be intimidated by bullies — no matter who they are.”

    Prior to Tuesday’s criminal referral, Trump slammed James on Sunday in a post on Truth Social, writing, “Letitia James, a totally corrupt politician, should resign from her position as New York State Attorney General, IMMEDIATELY. Everyone is trying to MAKE NEW YORK GREAT AGAIN, and it can never be done with this wacky crook in office.”

    Nigeria, under President Bola Tinubu is in a full-blown state of emergency, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has observed.

    Atiku, in a statement on Wednesday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, accused the President of gallivanting across Europe while Nigeria bleeds.

    “On April 2, 2025, President Bola Tinubu flew out to France. Had this absurd announcement come just a day earlier, Nigerians would have dismissed it as an April Fool’s joke. But sadly, it’s no prank — just another insult to a nation pushed to the brink by a presidency that treats its citizens like fools.

    The former vice president dismissed the presidency’s explanations that Tinubu went to France on “a working visist,” saying Nigerians aren’t buying the spin.

    He mocked denial by presidency officials that Tinubu’s trip to France isn’t for medical purposes.

    “But even if it’s not medical tourism, what justification is there for gallivanting across Europe while Nigeria bleeds? What kind of leader borrows billions only to blow scarce funds on vanity trips abroad? It’s not just irresponsible— it’s contemptuous.

    “Let the facts speak for themselves. By the time Tinubu struts back from this latest escapade, he will have racked up a staggering 59 days in France since assuming office. ‘See Paris and die?’ No, see Paris and abandon your country.

    “While Tinubu dines under chandeliers in the land of good governance, the country he governs is spiraling into chaos.

    “Plateau has turned into a killing field —over 100 lives lost in relentless attacks. Benue is bleeding. Boko Haram is seizing territory. And every single day, Nigerians sink deeper into poverty, insecurity, and despair.

    “This isn’t just negligence. It’s dereliction of duty on a catastrophic scale.

    “If Tinubu had even a shred of empathy, he would cut his trip short and return immediately. A leader with an ounce of patriotism wouldn’t need to be begged to show up in times of crisis.

    “The constitution says the security and welfare of the people is the primary purpose of government. But under Tinubu, that sacred duty has been trashed,” Atiku said.

    According to him, there is absolutely nothing Tinubu is doing in France that he couldn’t do in Lagos,” or even in Iragbiji.”

    Atiku insisted that the President’s visist to France is nothing more than a vacation cloaked in official jargon.

    “Nigeria is in a full-blown state of emergency. Not a contrived political emergency like what Tinubu declared in Rivers for partisan gain — this is a national collapse. So when, exactly, will Tinubu declare a state of emergency on his own disastrous presidency?”

  • White House starting new media policy restricting access to president

    The Associated Press says that a new White House media policy violates a court order by giving the administration sole discretion over who gets to question President Donald Trump, and the news agency asked a federal judge on Wednesday to enforce that order.

    The swift move was in response to a policy issued late Tuesday by the White House, which suffered a courtroom loss last week over The Associated Press’ ability to cover Trump. The plans, the latest attempt by the new administration to control coverage of its activities, sharply curtail the access of three news agencies that serve billions of readers around the world.

    The AP filed Wednesday’s motion with U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden, asking for relief “given defendant’s refusal to obey” his order last week. McFadden said the White House had violated the AP’s free speech by banning it from certain presidential events because Trump disagreed with the outlet’s decision not to rename the Gulf of Mexico.

    White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt did not immediately return a message seeking comment on Wednesday. Leavitt is a defendant in the AP’s lawsuit, along with White House chief of staff Susan Wiles and her deputy, Taylor Budowich.

    The AP’s lawsuit claimed that its First Amendment rights were violated by the White House blocking its reporters and photographers from covering Trump. McFadden ordered the administration to treat the AP as it does other news organizations.

    Reframing who gets access to the president for questions

    For many years, the independent White House Correspondents Association has run the pool for the limited space events, and each time it has included reporters from the wire services AP, Reuters and Bloomberg. One print reporter was also allowed, selected on a rotating basis from more than 30 news outlets.

    The White House now says it will lump the three wire services with print reporters for two slots — meaning roughly three dozen reporters will rotate for two regular slots. Wire services typically report and write stories that are used by different media outlets around the world.

    Even with the rotation, the White House said Trump’s press secretary “shall retain day-to-day discretion to determine composition of the pool.” The new policy says reporters will also be allowed in “irrespective of the substantive viewpoint expressed by an outlet.”

    Seeing their own access cut back along with the AP’s, representatives from Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters also protested the new policy.

    “For decades, the daily presence of the wire services in the press pool has ensured that investors and voters across the United States and around the world can rely on accurate real-time reporting on what the president says and does,” said Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait. “We deeply regret the decision to remove that permanent level of scrutiny and accountability.”

    In a statement, the AP’s Lauren Easton said the outlet was deeply disappointed that rather than restore the AP’s access, the White House instead chose restrictions over all of the wire services.

    “The wire services represent thousands of news organizations across the U.S. and the world over,” said Easton, an AP spokeswoman. “Our coverage is used by local newspapers and television stations in all 50 states to inform their communities.

    “The administration’s actions continue to disregard the fundamental American freedom to speak without government control or retaliation,” Easton said Tuesday night.

    The WHCA said the administration’s insistence on retaining control over who covers the president shows that it is unwilling to guarantee that it would not continue viewpoint discrimination. “The government should not be able to control the independent media that covers it,” said Eugene Daniels, the association’s president.

    More access for Trump-friendly media

    Under Leavitt, the White House has given greater access to news outlets friendly to Trump. That was visible Tuesday, when the first reporter Leavitt addressed during a briefing asked two questions while also praising Trump policy.

    At Monday’s Oval Office meeting, Trump bristled at questions from CNN’s Kaitlan Collins about a man deported to an El Salvador prison, at one point accusing CNN of “hating our country.” He made it a point to contrast her questions with a non-pointed one from another reporter.

    Charging Point Club International Inducts 13 New Members in Calabar

    Thirteen new members have been officially inducted into The Charging Point Club International in Calabar.

    The new members include the Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Udiandeye; Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Area, Hon. Effiong Okon; Neji Ewa Nyam; Odey Tony Odama; Abeng Fidelis Erunice; Anderson Agada Etim; Ogar Douglas Ogar; Okori Bernard Oko; Kennedy Etta Asu; Egbe Mango; Cyril Abang Echija; and Adah Godwin Ugare.

    According to the Chairman of the club, Hon. Chris Agbeh, Charging Point Club International is a social club that cuts across ethnic and religious divides, aimed at building and broadening the socio-cultural, economic, and political well-being of its members.

    Agbeh, who is also the Executive Chairman of Ogoja Local Government Council, welcomed the new members and enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the club wherever they find themselves and to abide by the tenets of the club.
