Last Friday, The Breakfast Group hosted its 34th Annual Tie-One-On Luncheon at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in downtown Seattle. Established in 1976, The Breakfast Group is the oldest non-fraternity, all-male African American organization in the Pacific Northwest. This nonprofit comprises civic-minded and professional Black men dedicated to mentoring and addressing challenges faced by at-risk youth of color, with a particular focus on Black males. Their primary goal is to support low-income youth of color in achieving educational objectives and to engage closely with the community’s highest-risk young men.

The luncheon serves as a “rite of passage” for approximately 85 young men who complete the Project M.I.S.T.E.R. Program or are selected by school staff for participation. Each student is paired with a business or professional community member who acts as their host for lunch. During the event, mentors exchange business cards with students and encourage future contact. Each student receives a necktie and a dress shirt, symbolizing their passage into adulthood. The “rite of passage” is marked when mentors teach the students how to tie the necktie.

Amidst a three-course meal, the event featured special guest speakers, including Seattle Public School Superintendent Dr. Brent Jones as the keynote speaker, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown, and Seattle City Councilmember Rob Saka, among others.

“So, this time-honored event is so essential to confirming the African American men’s commitment to the young African American men in this community, in their evolution, in their transformation,” said Dr. Jones. “I so appreciate what the Breakfast Group has done since 1976, to really try to find ways to add value, to uplift and to really create the conditions for our African American young men to thrive.”

Mayor Harrell expressed his honor in attending the event, highlighting it as an example of Seattle’s commitment to community support.

“I am really honored to be here with these fine young men, who to be mentored by these fine older brothers,” he said. “This is Seattle at its best in terms of giving back to these young men and who need this type of mentors in their lives, so I am really proud to be here.”

The luncheon provides a safe and transformative environment where young Black men can interact with successful Black men, offering them positive role models to learn from and emulate as they transition into adulthood.

“The Project Mister and the Breakfast Group is an amazing opportunity to keep our young Black men in this city in a nice safe culture, a nice safe and comfortable environment, where they can see themselves, where they can thrive and know that they are our future leaders of the city,” said Dwane Chappelle, Director of Seattle’s Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL). “This event for me is something that I look forward to every year but most importantly it is for these young men to make sure that they have the support system here in Seattle. So, I always look forward to this and I love what the Breakfast Group is doing.”

Seattle City Councilmember Rob Saka, representing District 1, shared his pride in being part of the event and supporting the young men as they embark on the next stages of their journey.

“I am incredibly proud of these young men. I am honored to be here today,” he said. “Today marks an opportunity for us to make a transition as individuals and as a community and I have been a part of this event for 10 years since I’ve been to my first one. Even now I am honored to come and support and be an advocate and cheerleader of these young men as they take on the next stage of their journey.”

For Romaree Fleeks, a senior at Rainier Beach High School who will play college football in California next year, the event was inspiring.

“This is a great event, I met a lot of good people, learned a lot of new things in general,” he said. “Becoming a man, being around successful men, who have been to college, in fraternities and being a part of a brotherhood that has enticed me to do that and I loved the conversations and knowledge these men gave to me.”

The Breakfast Group’s Project M.I.S.T.E.R. Program, which stands for Male Involvement & Service to Encourage Responsibility, is a school-based initiative operating in several Seattle high schools. The program focuses on life skills education, employment preparation, and personal responsibility, aiming to empower young men to achieve their highest potential. Through mentorship and structured curriculum, the program addresses the unique challenges faced by young African American men, providing them with the tools and support necessary for success.

  • Manchester United predicted line-up for second leg against Lyon

Manchester United are heading into the second leg of the Europa League Quarter-Final with Lyon desperate for a win.

Thanks to some dire goalkeeping from Andre Onana first time round, United lost their aggregate advantage going into the game, with the first leg ending 2-2.

With the clubs drawing as the match kicks off tomorrow evening, United need a win to go through, with the aim of winning the tournament now a vital one.

As United are unlikely to reach the top half of the Premier League table, let alone reach a place to qualify for European football next season, winning the Europa League is their last hope.

The Europa League victors automatically gain entry to the Champions League, and therefore a much-needed extra £100 million in income.

Speaking ahead of the game, club captain Bruno Fernandes has rallied his squad, aware of the fight they face, saying: “We are going to put our heads on to the game, fresh legs, fresh minds and together with the fans, we are going to do something special again.”

So, with a win absolutely vital for the club, who with Ruben Amorim be fielding?

Firstly, despite his catastrophic mistakes in the first leg against Lyon, Andre Onana has been confirmed by Amorim as starting in goal.

In his pre-match press conference the Portuguese manager commented: “We talk about managing players physically, but we also have to manage them mentally. This week, my thinking was to put Onana to play.”

He continued: “I think Andre deserves to return to the competition.”

We also know at the other end of the pitch that Rasmus Hojlund is Amorim’s only option up top as Joshua Zirkzee suffered a season-ending hamstring injury against Newcastle United.

Unfortunately alongside him to miss the game are Amad Diallo, Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven, with the later picking up another injury in a recent training session.

On Monday Heaven was stretched off the training pitch at Carrington, with the extent of the issue still unknown.

As such, United are limited to Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof for the back three, with Jonny Evans also returning to training.

With this in mind, it’s hard to believe that Amorim will be altering his squad much from the first leg, especially with Yoro grabbing his first United goal, Maguire vocally fired up for the game and Mazraoui being a resident starter in the back three.

In midfield, Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro have routinely been starting behind Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes, making this a fairly likely starting et up once again.

The only curveball to this could be the return of Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount who are being slowly and cautiously reintegrated into games to ensure a sustainable recovery from injury.

  • Mom allegedly crashed into canal and left her 4-year-old daughter trapped in submerged car to die

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. (TCN) — A 26-year-old woman faces charges after allegedly driving while under the influence, crashing, and leaving her young daughter trapped inside the car to die.

According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, on the night of March 8, authorities initially arrested Juliette Acosta on a DUI charge. KCRA-TV reports that Acosta was driving with her 4-year-old daughter when she allegedly sideswiped a telephone pole and crashed into an irrigation canal near the town of Hickman.

A deputy reportedly attempted to rescue the child, identified by prosecutors as Reagan Herrin. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died.

The criminal complaint alleges that Acosta was driving with a blood alcohol content around three times the legal limit at the time.

Acosta allegedly “left her partially submerged car while her daughter remained trapped inside.” The mother reportedly failed to render aid to her daughter, and authorities found her taking a bath “while her daughter remained in peril at the crash scene.”

The district attorney’s office announced April 11 that Acosta now faces charges of murder, vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, permitting a child to suffer under circumstances likely to cause great bodily injury or death, and resisting, delaying, or obstructing a public officer, peace officer, or emergency medical technician.

Acosta faces up to life in prison if convicted on all charges. She remains held in the Stanislaus County Jail without bail.

  • Student assaulted by college instructor over MAGA hat

A new report claims that a Washington State University instructor and another university employee were arrested after assaulting a student in February for wearing a hat in support of President Donald Trump.

According to Turning Point USA’s Frontlines, Jay Sani, a student at Washington State University, said he was assaulted in February outside “The Coug” campus bar, by college instructor Patrick Mahoney and Gerald Hoff, another university employee. Sani claimed the two men attacked him and forcibly removed his red “Trump 2024 Take America Back” hat.

Frontlines reported that Sani said the college instructor took his hat off, threw it on the ground, and said, “Go get it, b-tch” before punching him multiple times in the back. Sani said he was also kicked multiple times by Hoff while Mahoney grabbed his chest and forced him onto the ground. A video shared by Frontlines shows multiple bruises Sani attributed to the February assault incident.

According to Frontlines, police officials police officials were able to locate both attackers within hours of the assault. The outlet noted that Mahoney told police officials he had previously seen Sani on campus and knew he was a “right-wing dude.”

The college instructor told police officials that he grabbed the student’s hat, threw it, and told him, “Go get it.” Meanwhile, Hoff told police officials, “We did grab him and threw him to the ground.”

While the two suspects admitted to forcibly removing Sani’s hat, Mahoney claimed he did not hit the student and that he did not believe he had committed an illegal act. The college instructor added that Sani “got what’s coming to him.”

According to Frontlines, Mahoney and Hoff were arrested in connection with February’s incident and charged with fourth-degree misdemeanor assault. The outlet noted that Mahoney was temporarily suspended from teaching by Washington Statue University after the assault incident; however, Sani indicated that the professor could be reinstated soon.

“He really shouldn’t be teaching here in my opinion,” Sani said. “Because you know, if you can’t tolerate different opinions…then what’s the point?”

Frontlines reported that Sani participates in Turning Point USA and other conservative groups at Washington State University. On the other hand, the outlet identified Mahoney as a left-wing graduate student and political science instructor who has participated in pro-Palestinian protests and is linked to Democratic Socialists of America and other left-wing groups.

According to Frontlines, Mahoney also seems to publicly support communism. As an example, the outlet included Mahoney’s official university picture, which features the communist hammer and sickle pin, in its video report.

Sani told the outlet, “Mahoney’s goal is to turn this country into a communist dictatorship or a communist authoritarian system.”

  • No Miracle At The Bernabeu As Arsenal Defeat Real Madrid To Qualify For Champions League Semi-Final

Arsenal recorded a stunning 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-finals clash to book a place in the semi-final of the competition.

The Gunners qualified for the last four of the competition at the expense of the defending champions after a dominant 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium last week to make it 5-1 on aggregate.

The visitors were handed an early opportunity to take the lead when Asencio was penalised for pulling down Merino in the 18-yard box in the 12th minute.

Unfortunately, Bukayo Saka’s penalty was saved by Thibaut Courtois.

In the 23rd minute, Real Madrid thought they had been given their own opportunity to score from 12-yards after the referee pointed to the spot when Declan Rice fouled Kylian Mbappe.

After a long review, the penalty was overturned as the first half ended 0-0.

Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead in the 65th minute with a sublime finish following a flowing move from the visitors.

Two minutes later, Vinicius restored parity for Real Madrid after taking advantage of Saliba’s mistake to make it 1-1.

Gabriel Martinelli became the hero for the Gunners with the winning goal in the 93rd minute after finishing off Merino’s assist with a composed goal to lead Arsenal to the Champions League semi-finals.

The Gunners will now take on PSG in the last four of the competition.

Inter Milan and Bayern Munich played out a 2-2 draw in Italy with the Italian team advancing on a 4-3 aggregate win.

Barcelona will take on Inter Milan in the second semi-final on April 29.

The origin of Aldelia gives a good indication of what the company was meant to be. Cedric Filet, whilst recovering from a rugby injury, established the company from his bedroom. These firms understood the necessity of developing local content programs but struggled to implement them.
When it came to choose a name, Cedric decided to find a name which would represent the strategic orientation of the company. The Aldelia name finds it origin from the Portuguese “Aldeia” which defines in Brazil people coming from small indigenous communities – tribes.

  • Today’s Wordle Hints, Answer for #1398 on April 17, 2025

NYT Wordle is a satisfying and tricky test of vocabulary and logic that challenges players to guess a new five-letter word every day. However, things can get a little too challenging at times, and that probably explains why you’re here. So, if you don’t want to break your word-guessing streak or get too frustrated, take a look at today’s Wordle hints and answer for puzzle #1398 for April 17, 2025, down below!

    How to Play Wordle

Wordle is a word puzzle game by The New York Times. You are given six attempts to guess a five-letter word. The letters are highlighted in Yellow, Green, and Grey when you input a word. Yellow denotes that the letter appears in today’s Wordle answer, but it’s not at the right spot. Meanwhile, when a letter turns green, it means you have guessed the right letter in the right position. At last, a grey letter means the letter is not part of today’s answer.

While it may seem that winning at Wordle is easy, it is difficult to get that pesky five-letter word right. To help you out, here are some quick tips on how to play Wordle:

    • Open with a strong word – Using the right Wordle starting words rich with multiple vowels and consonants is important. While you can take a look at our dedicated guide, starting words like AISLE, SALTY, and DINER are my go-to choices.
    • Pay attention to colors – Keep track of the yellow, green, and grayed-out letters to eliminate incorrect positions and letters. To make every guess count, avoid accidentally repeating letters that have already been eliminated.
    • Isolate the vowels – There can be days when your usual starting words don’t help much. In that case, try to test the remaining vowels by using different words.
    • Repeating letters is good – Don’t be afraid of repeating letters as history is proof that there are chances the Wordle answer will have one or two letters that repeat themselves.
    • Use the Wordlebot – As described above, NYT’s Wordlebot is an intuitive bot that analyzes your responses and compares them against itself. Instilling some healthy competition can help you improve your own Wordle guessing and see what you could have done better.
