  • PPU Manager at Food Concepts Plc

Food Concepts commenced operations in 2001. From inception, our aim has been clear-cut and focused: to revolutionise the food sector in West Africa and to deliver extraordinary satisfaction to our stakeholders.

Since launching in 2004, Chicken Republic has already opened 55 stores in Nigeria and Ghana. On this basis, we are proud of the brand’s hard-earned reputation as the fastest growing chicken QSR in West Africa and the number 1 chicken QSR in Nigeria (both in revenues and number of outlets). In addition, Chicken Republic was ranked as one of Nigeria’s top 20 brands across all categories (Financial Standards Awards 2009).

  • Nigerian man arrested for allegedly duping Indian businesswoman in chemical export email scam

Police have arrested a Nigerian man in Navi Mumbai, India for allegedly duping a businesswoman of Rs 3.5 lakh on the false promise of an opportunity for her in chemical business in the United Kingdom.

The accused was identified as Adolphus Uche Onuma, a resident of Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, an official said on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

The victim, who is a businesswoman and deals in chemicals, had received an email on January 26 about a business opportunity in the UK.

The woman was convinced with the offer and sent Rs 3.05 lakh to an account number provided by the sender of the email. After sending the money, the woman tried to contact the company but failed to get any response.

She then realised that she had been duped and approached the Matunga police station, where she lodged a complaint.

  • ‘Obi to Tinubu: End France visit immediately to tackle insecurity

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to cut short his ‘working vacation’ in France and come back to home as Nigeria is currently ‘burning.’

Obi who made the call in a statement he shared on his verified X page on Wednesday, berated Tinubu for allegedly
abandoning the country in the face of searing insecurity and multiple other challenges to go in a vacation in France.

He lamented the insecurity has besieged the country in the two weeks that the President has been away and urged him to abandon whatever he is doing in France and return to the country to deal with the burning issues plaguing it.

“I am compelled at this time in our lives as a nation to call on our retreating President’s attention to the security challenges at home, which entails that he immediately suspend his ongoing retreat in a foreign land and come home to address the overwhelming security situation across the country,” Obi wrote.

“This urgent call has become necessary following the rising incidents of crimes and criminalities all over Nigeria with an apparent absence of governance.

“In the 2 weeks you have been away, over 150 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity across Nigeria, especially in Plateau and Zamfara states.

“The repeated pipeline explosions in the Niger Delta, further reflect a nation in distress.

“In the North-East, Borno State leaders are bemoaning the return of insurgency with troops and civilians being killed randomly. In the South-East, the story is the same: killings and abduction.

“Amid all these, the CEO of the troubling company called Nigeria is retreating in a far away land in France from the Company’s headquarters.

“The primary duty of any government is securing the lives and property of its citizens and one wonders the type of retreat going on in another country where peace has been secured by their leaders while blood continues to flow in our country

“The fight for a better Nigeria is not about individuals; it is about ensuring that every citizen can see, feel, and benefit from the policies and decisions of those in power.

“I, therefore like to urge Mr President to quickly suspend whatever he is doing in France and rush home to take responsibility by addressing these disturbing issues

“That is the new Nigeria that the nation seeks.”

  • US hits China with export restrictions on chips used for DeepSeek

This article was originally published by Radio Free Asia and is reprinted with permission.

The U.S. has imposed restrictions on the export of Nvidia’s H20 chips to China, tightening its grip on advanced AI technology trade with Beijing as part of Washington’s strategy to pressure China amid an ongoing tariff battle.

Nvidia, a global leader in AI chip development, said Tuesday it was notified by the U.S. government on April 9 that exporting its H20 chips to China would now require government approval. It separately said that the restriction would remain in place indefinitely.

While the H20 chip has relatively modest computing power, it has other features that make it suitable for building high-performance computing systems.

The U.S. government reportedly based its decision on concerns that the H20 chips could be used in or adapted for Chinese supercomputers.

Until now, the H20 was the most advanced artificial intelligence chip legally exportable to China, which already faced U.S. national security-driven curbs on high-end semiconductor sales. Although its performance is below Nvidia’s latest Blackwell chip, it is equipped with high-bandwidth memory similar to that used in Blackwell, giving it a performance boost in certain tasks.

The H20 chip gained attention following its use by DeepSeek, a Chinese AI startup, which in January unveiled a cost-effective and competitive AI model trained using the chip.

Earlier this year, tech media outlet The Information reported that major Chinese tech companies, including Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance, collectively placed over US$16 billion worth of H20 chip orders in the first quarter alone – a surge of over 40% from the previous quarter.

As a result of the new export restrictions, Nvidia expects to incur a loss of approximately US$5.5 billion in the first quarter of its fiscal year.

The U.S. first imposed AI chip export controls targeting China in October 2022 and has since broadened the scope of the restrictions to cover additional technologies and countries.

The export restriction on H20 chips comes as U.S.-China trade tensions intensify. It is also despite Nvidia’s announcement Monday that it plans to work with its partners to invest up to US$500 billion over the next four years to build AI infrastructure, including supercomputers manufactured in the U.S.

Trump has imposed steep tariffs on Chinese imports, many of which now face a total of 145% in additional levies.

More recently, the Trump administration expanded exemptions for certain products – including smartphones and laptops – excluding them from a global 10% duty and the newly announced 125% levy targeting Chinese tech goods.

On Tuesday, Trump took further aim at Beijing, posting on his Truth Social platform that China had failed to fulfill commitments under a prior trade agreement that temporarily halted the tariff war during his first term from 2016-2020.

He said Beijing had purchased only “a portion of what they agreed to buy,” and criticized the previous Biden administration for showing “zero respect” in trade enforcement.

In the same post, Trump said that American farmers were often “put on the Front Line with our adversaries, such as China,” during trade conflicts – pledging continued support for U.S. agriculture.

Later that day, Trump turned his focus to a major aerospace deal, saying that China had backed out of a previously committed agreement with Boeing.

“They just reneged on the big Boeing deal, saying they will ‘not take possession’ of fully committed-to aircraft,” he wrote.

Bloomberg earlier reported that Chinese authorities had instructed domestic airlines to stop taking deliveries of Boeing jets, and to pause purchases of aircraft-related equipment and parts from U.S. suppliers.

In retaliation against U.S. actions, China has introduced counter-tariffs targeting American agriculture and imposed a 125% levy on other U.S. imports.

  • Anambra Guber: Soludo Ordained By God, Claims Arthur Eze

Prominent Anambra philanthropist, Arthur Eze, has endorsed the reelection of the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, in the November 8 gubernatorial contest in the state.

Soludo visited Eze at his residence on Wednesday.

The billionaire said the governor has all it takes to beat his opponents, whom he claims lack credibility and vision.

“No individual or group can defeat Governor Soludo in the upcoming election; he is ordained by God to continue leading Anambra to greatness,” said the CEO of Atlas Oranto Petroleum.

Eze also appealed to Anambra residents to rally behind Soludo for the ongoing development of the state.

“Soludo has character; his name ‘Chukwuma’ means ‘God knows His plan,’ which aligns seamlessly with his purpose and actions,” Eze noted.

In response to the criticisms from opposition figures, Eze said they are destined to fail at the polls.

Giving his remarks, Soludo reaffirmed his commitment to the elevation and transformation of Anambra State.

“Anambra has all it takes to be a great state. There is nothing we envision for Anambra that we cannot achieve,” he stated, noting the abundant human and natural resources available to foster growth.

  • 7-year-old Kaduna boy loses legs after allegedly being tortured with hot water, starved, locked up by his father and stepmother for stealing biscuits

The Kaduna State Government has rescued a 7-year-old boy, Abubakar Sani, from his abusive father and stepmother, who allegedly tied his legs and poured hot water on them as punishment for stealing biscuits.

The horrific incident occurred in Lere Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Rabi Salisu, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, said the boy’s legs severely damaged, necessitating a double amputation below the knee.

“The report on the boy came to the ministry about nine days ago, and by then, his legs had already rotted and had maggots coming out, so the advice from the doctors was amputation to save his life,” she said.

The commissioner revealed that the father, Sani Tanimi Maishago, and his wife, the boy’s stepmother, locked Abubakar up in a room for over 20 days without proper food.

The Commissioner added that the police in the state have apprehended the father and stepmother, and “they will face charges in court once the investigation is complete.

Salisu emphasised that the state government has zero tolerance for child abuse, domestic violence, and molestation.

“We will make sure that justice is served to serve as a deterrent to others.”

The Chief Medical Director of Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Abdulkadir Musa, revealed that Abubakar’s future survival may depend on equipping him with artificial limbs.

He counselled parents to exercise caution and perseverance when punishing their children, warning that “irreversible consequences” can result from excessive punishment.

Meanwhile, the state government has reiterated its commitment to defending children’s rights, with Salisu emphasising that “the social wellbeing of the child is the state’s paramount goal.”

She added that the government would continue to work towards ensuring that justice was served and that children were protected from abuse and exploitation in the state.
