  • Manchester United chief flies out to watch key target

Manchester United’s scoring woes have been a major topic this season, with only 38 goals scored in 32 Premier League matches.

The Reds are well aware of the need for reinforcements up front, especially with key forwards like Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee facing scrutiny for inconsistent goal returns.

This has forced the club to look aggressively toward the upcoming summer window, where a major attacking overhaul is expected.

Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy recently revealed a shortlist that includes Victor Osimhen, Matheus Cunha, and Liam Delap—three very different profiles but each potentially more budget-friendly than the club’s other top target.

Despite some of those names being actively monitored, one particular striker has emerged as a standout name in the United recruitment drive.

Christopher Vivell has flown to Germany to watch Benjamin Sesko

According to BILD in Germany, United’s sporting director Christopher Vivell has flown out to watch RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in person.

The 21-year-old Slovenian has been in excellent form this season, netting 19 times and showcasing his ability to lead the line at the highest level.

Last summer, Benjamin Sesko was strongly linked with Arsenal but ultimately chose to remain in the Bundesliga, signing an extension that reportedly included a gentleman’s agreement to allow a future move.

That move could now materialise sooner than expected, with Bild suggesting Leipzig would be willing to cash in—although their valuation sits around a hefty £86 million.

United are keen, but such a figure could prove a stumbling block unless sales are made to balance the books.

Sesko isn’t the only name in the conversation, though. Napoli’s Osimhen could be available for £63 million, while Wolves’ Cunha has a £62.5 million release clause.

Delap, the wildcard pick from Ipswich Town, could be signed for around £30 million if the club is relegated—a bargain compared to his more high-profile peers.

What’s clear is that United’s scouting network is working overtime, and with goals in short supply, the next few weeks could shape the club’s striking future.

  • How Guardiola Inspired Arsenal’s 2-1 Win Over Real Madrid – Arteta

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has revealed that he was inspired by a conversation with Pep Guardiola on Wednesday morning before the 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Gunners recorded a 5-1 aggregate win over the 15-time champions of the competition after a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium last week.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli scored for Arsenal in Spain to complete their impressive performance, which earned them a place in the last four of the competition.

Mikel Arteta has opened up on how a conversation with Man City’s Pep Guardiola inspired him ahead of the encounter.

He said, “I called him on Wednesday morning. Because if I am here, it is thanks to him to a great extent.

“He has been a big inspiration to me. I lived four amazing years with him, and I will always be grateful to him. Without him, I wouldn’t be here.”

Arteta was full of praise for his players for showing their mental strength against the defending champions.

He said, “Not only because we’re in the semi-final for the third time in our history, but also for the manner and the way we did it, with the circumstances and the amount of injuries that we had.

“I think overall, I think it shows the character of this team, of this club, and it’s a night to be very proud of.

“What this shows is that the feeling that we have is a reality. And the feeling that I had before the tie, with what the players were transmitting and how prepared I could feel they were, was that we are ready to compete against anybody.

“Now, we have to continue to do that because I think we have some momentum.”

Arteta was impressed with how the players handled the hostile Santiago Bernabéu atmosphere.

He said, “It’s certainly another massive step. Where we finished last year and the way we’ve done it this year against the team with the highest honours in the competition, it’s incredible.

“But I want to give credit to them as well. It was my first time as a coach in that dugou,t and today I realised after three minutes that in this stadium, anything is possible.

“They are specialists in creating such chaos, such a belief, and it’s very difficult to understand really what’s going on in the game and have certainty about how we control it. But I think the players showed their own maturity.”

The Gunners became the only team to win each of their first two games against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabéu in all competitions.

Up next for Arsenal is a semi-final clash against PSG on April 29th at the Emirates Stadium.

  • Anna Gelderd: ‘Let’s learn from the toxic mistakes of our past — PFAS must be phased out’

I know that sometimes, it can feel like there are so many issues to sort out that getting a grip on one is like trying to shoot fish in a barrel. That is why it’s really important that we stick to simple principles, like the polluter pays. If you break it, you buy it and it’s your responsibility to fix it.  That is exactly the case with PFAS, a group of over 10,000 synthetic chemicals that barely degrade in the natural environment, also known as ‘Forever chemicals’, which have polluted UK’s drinking water sources, supermarket food, our bodies, and even the iconic marine species such as harbour porpoises, which are also found in my constituency, South East Cornwall.

Their resistance to heat and ability to repel grease and water has led to their use in many areas of daily life, from sandwich wrappers to mobile phones. However, due to their persistence in the environment, PFAS pollution is everywhere, and the UK is no exception. Not a single river in England is in good chemical health due to cocktails of chemicals, including highly persistent chemicals such as PFAS. Tens of thousands of PFAS ‘hotspots’ have been detected across the UK and Europe. And more information about the UK’s most PFAS polluted sites has been coming to light recently, with communities being told to be ‘cautious’ about eating home grown produce and others recommended bloodletting carried out by medical professionals to help remove high levels of PFAS from their bodies.

This is a problem that affects both humans and animals. In my constituency of South East Cornwall, we are lucky to have harbour porpoises visiting our coastline. The harbour porpoise is widely loved and thought of as one of the most shy, charming whale species in the UK, they used to be known as ‘puffing pigs’ due to the noise they make when they come up for air. Between 2012 and 2014, 51 harbour porpoises around the UK were tested for a PFAS chemical, PFOS, which is linked to impacts on reproduction and the immune system in marine mammals. It was found in every single harbour porpoise tested.

It appears we are learning little from our recent past. Legacy pollutants banned in the UK in the 1980s called PCBs are still causing havoc for killer whales, harbour porpoises and grey seals today. There is clear evidence they are behind the decline in the UK’s killer whale population and evidence suggests higher concentrations of PCBs are connected to increased risk of infectious disease mortality for harbour porpoises.

Data is mounting from other places in the world on the presence of PFAS in seals, whales, dolphins, fish and other wildlife. Whilst we do not know what harm all 10,000 of these chemicals are doing, we cannot wait for all the evidence before acting. The European Environment Agency highlight PCBs as a substance whose early warning signs of harm were ignored. Had evidence of harm been acted upon earlier, many years of PCB use would have been avoided, and we would have ‘a more manageable, less costly problem than we are faced with today’.

Marine life in Cornwall is an important part of our history, identity and economy. The only option we have to overcome this new toxic legacy is following the approach being taken by other countries of phasing out all PFAS over a number of years, in line with EU laws enabling smooth interaction and clarity for UK businesses. Many sectors that use PFAS already have viable PFAS-free alternatives, and rapid innovation is underway in others. To raise awareness, I will be hosting a parliamentary event in April on this growing issue. We need to ensure action is taken to prevent further pollution and accumulation of PFAS in our environment, and to finally learn from the toxic mistakes of our past.

  • There's a reason we can identify with Jesus in the Garden at Gethsemane

“When the images of earth cling too tightly to memory, when the call of happiness becomes too insistent, it happens that melancholy rises in man’s heart: this is the rock’s victory, this is the rock itself. The boundless grief is too heavy to bear. These are our nights of Gethsemane.” — Albert Camus, from “The Myth of Sisyphus”

Many years ago, I had a thought that has stayed with me ever since: Maybe the whole reason I was born is so I can sit with Christ for an hour in the Garden at Gethsemane.

I remember the exact time of day and place: late afternoon, on the west side of Norton Avenue in LA’s Hancock Park, just south of 5th Street. I was in the midst of what had already been a long period of psychic anguish (and, as it happened, would continue for some time). I was starting out for my daily walk. I was devoid of joy. Nothing gave me pleasure. Nothing energized me. All I knew was to keep going to Mass, to stay close to Jesus.

The crucifixion, carried out before a jeering, spitting crowd, is horrifying to contemplate.

Each stage on the road to Calvary has its psychic counterpart for us. Still, we probably won’t be physically scourged, nor have a crown of thorns jammed on our head, nor be nailed to a cross in this life.

But the Garden of Gethsemane — the agony of anxiety that must be undergone in utter darkness alone, the terror of the unknown, the sense of being completely inadequate to what lies before us — is the province of every human being.

Everyone knows the agony of waiting to hear from a lost or missing loved one. Everyone knows the anxiety of waiting: for the results of a medical test (will the biopsy be negative?), or an academic test (will I qualify for this college?), or an interview (will I get this job?).

Can I pay my rent or feed my children? Will the ambulance come in time? Will he ask me on a second date? Will she marry me? Will the baby be healthy?

    Will I die alone?

In a way, we are always in the Garden at Gethsemane, all our lives. As we age, we perhaps find ourselves ever more cognizant of our place there. Beneath all other anxieties is the anxiety, even if unconscious, of where, when, and how our earthly end will come.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus knew when and how his end would come. He knew, and he was terrified.

What does it mean to sweat tears of blood? “Hematohidrosis,” the National Institute of Health reports, “is a very rare condition in which an individual sweats blood. It may occur in an individual who is suffering from extreme levels of stress.”

Can we even imagine anxiety that extreme? And Jesus didn’t just sweat blood; he sweated tears of blood. He suffered extreme stress coupled with extreme sorrow: both at a level beyond comprehension.

It’s well documented that animals who know their time has come will often wander off to a place where they can be alone and die. The instinct is to hide from attackers. No such protection would be offered to our Savior.

The Garden at Gethsemane was a place where Jesus had often gone with his disciples to pray. He longed for them to pray with him now, but they were tired. He longed to be safe, but soon the Roman soldiers would come with their torches and whips.

People in prison awaiting their executions are in a position to be close to Christ. I think of Servant of God Joseph Müller (1894-1944), one of scores of priests executed by the Nazis (his crime was telling a joke about Hitler: under torture, he would not reveal the name of the person who told it to him). I think of Servant of God Jacques Fesch (1930-1957), a murderer who had a conversion experience while incarcerated in Paris before being guillotined. I think of Mikal Mahdi (1983-2025), another convicted murderer and the second man recently executed by firing squad in South Carolina.

I also think that during Holy Week, when I wake in the middle of the night, maybe a few things could wait until morning. Maybe I don’t need to grab my phone, right then, and research the call of a vermilion flycatcher, or the price of flights to Appleton, Wisconsin, or the player list for the French Open, or my checking account balance.

Could you not sit with me for an hour?

All through Lent, while out walking, I’ve prayed along with the Stations of the Cross by St. Alphonsus Liguori.

“My adorable Jesus, it was not Pilate; no, it was my sins that condemned You to die.”

“My beloved Jesus, it was not the weight of the cross but the weight of my sins which made You suffer so much.”

“My most gentle Jesus, how many times You have forgiven me; and how many times I have fallen again and begun again to offend You!”

Our human weaknesses, failures, faults, wounds, and predisposition to sin are so monumentally extreme that it took — and continues to take — the extreme suffering of the Crucifixion to reconcile us to God.

The least we can do is sit with Jesus for an hour in the Garden of Gethsemane as he contemplates his passion.

That’s all he asks. Just sit.

And while we’re at it, pray, “Remember me, Lord, when you come into your kingdom.”
