  • EXCLUSIVE: Man Detained For Breaking Up With Daughter Of Retired Nigerian Police DIG Hilary Opara, Alleges She Got PENCOM Job Through Father’s Influence, Not Merit

David Nwokorie, the estranged lover of Genevieve Opara, daughter of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Hilary Opara, has disclosed how she allegedly secured her current job amid his continued detention following their breakup.

As SaharaReporters reported earlier on Wednesday, the Nigeria Police Force imposed tough administrative bail conditions on David after his arrest.

Genevieve, who currently serves as a Deputy Manager at the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), is married to Seal Nwaka, an officer with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

In an online conversation sighted by SaharaReporters, David claimed Genevieve owes her position to her father’s influence, stating that her previous attempts to secure employment failed due to a lack of qualifications.

He said that if her father had not given her “a job at PENCOM,” she would have been “jobless, roaming the streets of Owerri or probably managing a hotel because all your efforts at getting a job independently has (sic) failed because you are not qualified”.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that David’s arrest was based on complaints filed by Genevieve, accusing him of cyberstalking and blackmail.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore intervened in the matter, prompting police authorities to indicate on Wednesday that Nwokorie’s lawyer could facilitate his bail.

“I got involved and asked the CP (Commissioner of Police) of NCC (National Cybercrime Center) to release him. He said we could send his lawyer. But when the lawyer arrived, they were met with ludicrous bail conditions. Officer Omaka insisted that nothing would change them,” Sowore said.

A document seen by SaharaReporters showed that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) demanded two sureties for Nwokorie’s bail. The sureties must either be Federal Government employees not below Grade Level 17, or businessmen with landed properties in Abuja covered by a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O). Alternatively, the sureties could be businessmen with registered companies and landed properties within the FCT valued at no less than ₦500 million.

If the sureties presented are federal government employees, they must provide letters of introduction from their respective organisations, valid identification cards, and other supporting documents.

Alternatively, if the sureties are businessmen, they must submit copies of their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration certificates, Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) for their landed properties in Abuja, and present the original documents for verification.

In both cases, the sureties are required to bring their passports and two recent passport photographs.

Sources told SaharaReporters that Genevieve and her family were upset over some messages allegedly sent by Nwokorie after their breakup.

In the messages, Nwokorie reportedly accused Genevieve of struggling with mental health issues and being emotionally unhealed from a previous relationship with a man based abroad, before entering into another relationship with someone she did not love.

He also allegedly described her as “unteachable” and “hot-headed,” and claimed she would still be jobless if not for her father’s influence in securing her role at the National Pension Commission (PenCom).

    Background

Family sources told SaharaReporters on Tuesday that David was arrested last week by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and had been held in custody since then.

According to David’s legal counsel, Barrister Ezike Chibuzor, who is also representing him in the ongoing case, the situation stems from a failed relationship between David and Genevieve.

Chibuzor explained that David only discovered Genevieve had previously been married and had two children after their relationship had progressed significantly.

“Genevieve never disclosed her past marriage and children to David. When he found out, he ended the relationship,” Chibuzor said.

The lawyer further alleged that tensions escalated in January when Genevieve found out that David had proposed to another woman. In response, she reportedly stormed his home and damaged several household items.

“David forgave her initially, but the problems continued. Eventually, he decided to end both the relationship and their joint NGO project, which they had started less than a year ago,” the lawyer added.

David, through his lawyer, reportedly demanded N25 million in compensation from Genevieve for the damages caused to his property.

He also posted a flyer online with Genevieve’s picture, describing her as “wanted for damages done to his home.”

Genevieve, in reaction to the post, filed a petition with the police, alleging cyberbullying and extortion. This led to David’s arrest.

“She was not happy about the post and reported him to the police. That’s how this issue started,” said the lawyer.

Meanwhile, David’s family alleges that Genevieve’s father, retired DIG Hilary Okpara, used his influence to get David arrested and detained.

“When we checked his [Hilary Okpara’s] profile, we saw that he was once a Commissioner of Police and later retired as an Assistant Inspector General (AIG). We believe he’s using his influence to keep David behind bars,” a family member told SaharaReporters.

There are also reports that David contacted Genevieve’s estranged husband, allegedly sending him photos of himself with Genevieve and her children.

He has reportedly expressed a willingness to testify in the ongoing custody battle between the couple.

SaharaReporters gathered that Genevieve is currently in court with her husband over a pending divorce case.

“Genevieve and her husband are currently in court over custody of their children. David is promising to serve as a witness against her,” Chibuzor confirmed.

When SaharaReporters contacted Genevieve Opara for comment, she said David is currently detained for blackmail, cyberbullying, and making threats to life.

“I think you should speak to my lawyer because you won’t be able to get all the necessary information from me. The matter has already progressed significantly. Please speak to my lawyer — it’s already in court,” she said.

“Maybe I’ll share my lawyer’s number with you so you can call her. Let her tell you what she can disclose. But the police cannot just arrest people arbitrarily.”

“They must have had some information. He is — well, he is currently detained for blackmail, cyberbullying, and making threats to life. The police have a clear picture and a full story,” she added.

When SaharaReporters contacted Genevieve’s lawyer, she said: “I cannot divulge any further information. As of today, the matter is sub judice. That means it is already before the court, okay? And I cannot speak on it.

“You are acting on speculations, and I am telling you that the matter is now sub judice. As of today, it has already been filed in court and is now before a competent court of jurisdiction.”

“So, we can’t speak further on this matter,” she added.

  • Luffy and Boa Hancock Relationship Explained: Will They Ever Get Together?

One Piece fandom gets divisive when the topic of Luffy’s love interest comes up. Half of the fandom believes Luffy would end up with Nami. On the other hand, the other half sincerely believes that the Pirate Empress Boa Hancock is the perfect companion for the future Pirate King. Well, the fandom is always going to be divided on the fact, but what does the source material reveal? So, let’s analyze Luffy and Boa Hancock’s relationship in One Piece as it stands right now to find out if the couple is going to get together.

    Spoilers Warning:

This post contains spoilers for the One Piece manga and anime. So, make sure to catch up to the series to avoid ruining your intended experience.

When Did Luffy First Meet Boa Hancock?

Image Credit: Toei Animation (via Fandom/One Piece Wiki)

During the events of the Saboady Archipelago arc, Bartholomew Kuma sent each Straw Hat Pirates member to a different location across the Grand Line. That’s how Luffy landed on the Amazon Lily island and crossed paths with the Pirate Empress of the Kuja tribe, Boa Hancock.

Prior to meeting Luffy, Boa Hancock used to be kept as a slave at Marie Geoise, and we know how tormented life could be for the enslaved people. Thus, Boa always remains hostile towards the new men she meets due to her tragic past.

That’s when Luffy enters her life and completely changes her perception towards people, especially men. Luffy swiftly wins Boa’s heart by being himself, i.e. a big-hearted hero with a selfless attitude. So, the relationship between Luffy and Boa is a classic example of the one-sided enemies-to-lovers trope, which you can find in many fictional works.

Is Boa Hancock in Love with Luffy?

Boa Hancock falls head over heels for Luffy the moment she understands the kind-hearted side of our hero and his heroic actions against a Celestial Dragon. Similar to the previous empresses of the Kuja tribe, Boa catches the Love Sickness disease after falling in love with Luffy. This is more than enough proof of Boa’s endless affection towards Luffy in One Piece.

Recently, S-Snake, the Seraphim based on Boa Hancock also portrayed similar feelings towards Luffy in the Egghead arc, one of the best arcs in One Piece.

Even though Boa Hancock has an undying love for Luffy, unfortunately, it leans on the one-sided territory as our hero doesn’t reciprocate the same. Luffy sees her as a close friend he made during his adventures, like the rest of his friends, and there is no hint of a romantic feeling between them. But this is not enough for a part of the One Piece community to stop shipping them together. Not just LuHan, there are several other One Piece ships popular among fans.

Will Luffy and Boa End Up Together in One Piece?

If you think Luffy and Boa will end up together at the end of the One Piece series, there is only a slim chance of this ship coming to life.

That’s because Luffy outright rejected the marriage proposal made by Boa Hancock already and shows zero signs of interest in the current Pirate Empress. Sure, the idea of the future Pirate King and Pirate Empress looks like the stars have aligned. Moreover, the instances where Boa expresses her boundless love for Luffy are adorable and comedic to watch.

In reality, Luffy and Boa Hancock’s relationship has consistently been treated as a comedic gag in the series by Oda. Not to forget that the age gap between Boa and Luffy sparked mixed reactions among the fans as Luffy was just 17 years old when a 29-year-old Boa Hancock fell in love with him. Boa Hancock is still in love with Luffy to this day, but the latter doesn’t feel the same way about her (just yet).

Luffy is so focused on his adventures and dreams that he doesn’t have any time for romance. His only love is meat, and after he becomes the Pirate King, Nami would be a better choice for him to settle down with instead of Boa Hancock. So, we sincerely believe Luffy and Boa will continue to remain close friends even at the end of the One Piece series.

In the meantime, let us know your thoughts about Luffy and Boa’s relationship in the comments below.

  • Amir Ibragimov defended against UK press

Manchester United’s next generation continues to draw attention, but not always for reasons on the pitch.

Seventeen-year-old academy talent Amir Ibragimov, who recently signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils, found himself at the centre of a social media storm following a now-viral clip from his YouTube channel.

The Russian-born midfielder, long touted as one of the brightest young prospects in United’s academy setup, had been sharing his journey of learning to drive online.

In a recent video, Amir Ibragimov was seen reacting poorly to failing a mock driving test, prompting criticism from fans and coverage from national media outlets such as the Daily Mail.

In the footage, Amir confidently tells the instructor he’s “100 per cent passed” before being informed that he had, in fact, failed.

His reaction—surprise, frustration, and disbelief—sparked a wave of backlash from some supporters, who questioned his attitude.

Comparisons to Jadon Sancho surfaced, with some fans suggesting United could be “facing another attitude problem” within the youth ranks.

However, the driving school involved, Ava Drive Driving, has come out in defence of the teenager.

Responding via Instagram, the instructor stated: “Amir Ibragimovic has consistently shown me respect and his attitude towards learning has been excellent.

“As Amir is a close friend, our friendly rapport and light-hearted banter may have been misunderstood or taken out of context.

“I want to clarify this in light of the recent speculation.”

The defence adds context that was missing from the viral clip, with many now calling out the press and online critics for jumping to conclusions.

Those close to Amir also note his maturity and dedication both on and off the field.

Ibragimov’s rising star hasn’t dimmed in the eyes of Manchester United, who recently tied him down with a professional deal as part of their long-term plans.

He has already impressed this year.

Having met Sir Alex Ferguson and continued his progression through the ranks, the midfielder remains firmly in United’s future plans—regardless of one misunderstood moment behind the wheel.

  • Obi’s 17-Year-Old Supporter Freed From Kirikiri Prison

Quadri Yusuf Alabi, the 17-year-old who captured national attention during the 2023 general elections after boldly standing in front of the convoy of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has been freed after months in detention at the Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre.

Alabi was discharged on Thursday by Magistrate A. O. Olorunfemi of the Apapa Magistrate Court following legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Dr Babajide Martins, which found no evidence linking the teenager to the alleged crime of armed robbery.

According to his lawyer, human rights activist Inibehe Effiong, Alabi was abducted near his home in Amukoko, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, by two well-known street touts in the area known as Lege and Baba Waris.

The teenager was later taken to the Amukoko Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The abductors initially told the officers at Amukoko Police Station that our client was involved in street fighting. (But) to the consternation of Quadri and his family, the police on 26th January, 2025, took Quadri before a magistrate in Apapa and obtained an order remanding him at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, on a trumped-up charge of armed robbery,” Effiong said in a post on X.

Effiong revealed that Quadri had long faced harassment from area boys in his community who felt entitled to donations and goodwill he received after his viral encounter with Obi’s convoy.

The family was allegedly pressured by community leaders, including the Baale, to “appease” the local thugs with gifts, including a cow and rice.

The police, in an alleged attempt to legitimise the charges, reportedly joined Quadri’s case with four unknown adult men and deliberately misrepresented his age as 18.

Effiong said the case was brought to public attention after Ms Hassana Nurudeen, co-founder of Ray of Hope Prison Outreach, raised the alarm. Following this, legal efforts to secure Quadri’s release intensified.

In court, the presiding magistrate cited the DPP’s legal advice, which explicitly recommended against prosecuting Quadri due to a lack of evidence.

The legal team is now calling for the immediate removal and disciplinary action against the Divisional Police Officer of Amukoko Division, the Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Odigbe Samuel, and all other officers involved in what Effiong described as a “sinister, oppressive, and corrupt scheme”.

They are also demanding a public apology from the Nigeria Police Force and compensation of N100 million for the unlawful arrest and detention of Quadri.

“Quadri’s case is a painful example of the putrefying corruption, monstrous impunity, and pervasive injustice in the Nigeria Police Force.

“There are many Quadris languishing in detention centres across Nigeria because of the unbridled criminality, lawlessness, and lack of accountability in the police institution and the weakness of the justice system,” Effiong added.

  • Momochi releases new Street Fighter 6 Season 2 tier list with a surprising character at the very top

Capcom Cup 11 served as the conclusion to the Capcom Pro Tour 2024 circuit back in early March. As we’re still awaiting the arrival of Elena, it’s still technically the second season of Street Fighter 6.

As such, Momochi recently released a new tier list for Street Fighter 6 Season 2. All 25 characters currently in the game have been divided up into one of five tier categories consisting of S, A+, A, B, and C.

It’s interesting to note that the latest DLC combatant to join Street Fighter 6, Mai Shiranui, sits at the very top of S tier along with Akuma, Ken, and Ed. Recently, there’s been a lot of speculation that Mai could be a top tier candidate in Street Fighter 6, but nobody has placed her in the highest possible position until now.

Juri, JP, Guile, Rashid, and M. Bison are also said to be quite strong as they all reside in the A+ tier group. Of course, we have to recognize that JP is absolutely a viable character considering how Kakeru was able to win the $1,000,000 prize by winning Capcom Cup 11 with the character.

It’s also interesting to note that Ryu sits at the bottom of A tier, implying that he’s worse than 14 characters, but better than 10 others. Despite this, Ryu was able to achieve second place at Capcom Cup 11 and Red Bull Kumite 2025

As of right now, the worst characters are said to be Dhalsim, Lily, and Marisa. While it’s still possible to win with these fighters, players using them will have to work significantly harder than most other players to do so.

  • Only 200 Youths registered for Army Recruitment in South-East – Nigerian Army

Brigadier-General Chima Ekeator, leader of the Nigerian Army Force Headquarters Recruitment Sensitisation Team in Anambra State, has raised concerns over the alarmingly low number of applicants from the South-East in the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise.

Speaking during a sensitisation meeting with youth leaders and President-Generals (P-Gs) of various communities in the state, Ekeator disclosed that only 200 youths from the entire South-East region had registered, compared to over 4,000 applicants from other regions.

“This sensitisation is essential because, according to records, only 200 persons have registered from the South-East, while in other regions, no fewer than 4,000 individuals have applied,” he said. “We are calling on youth leaders and community heads to return to their communities and mobilise young people to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Ekeator stressed the importance of increased participation from the region to ensure it fully utilises its recruitment quota and strengthens South-East representation within the Nigerian Army.

Representing the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the initiative. He urged traditional rulers and community leaders to mobilise at least 10 youths from each community to participate in the recruitment process.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, encouraged eligible youths between the ages of 18 and 22 to seize the opportunity and enlist in the Nigerian Army.
