  • Solo Leveling: Will There Be a Third Shadow Monarch in the Series?

Shadow Monarch has been the epitome of power in the Solo Leveling universe. There is no greater being in existence who can match the Shadow Monarch in powers and abilities. Well, the Absolute Being chose the first Shadow Monarch, who eventually became the source of our protagonist, Sung Jinwoo’s powers in the series. Solo Leveling has blessed us with two Shadow Monarchs so far, so it’s evident that fans would want to know if there will be a third one to bear the title.

First and Second Shadow Monarch in Solo Leveling

Image Credit: A-1 Pictures (via X/@SoloLevelingTV)

After learning the real intentions of the Absolute Being, the Rulers rebelled against him. At that time, only Ashborn remained loyal to their creator. Like every other Ruler, the Absolute Being blessed Ashborn with some incredible powers, but nothing worked when seven powerful entities opposed him. He fought the Rulers, who eventually overwhelmed him and pushed him to the verge of death.

Ashborn knew that the fatal injuries wouldn’t let him live for long, but before he could succumb to the dark fate, he discovered the demonic powers that the Absolute Being had hidden inside of him.
He soon transformed into the Shadow Monarch after activating these powers. His wounds healed instantly, and he became the second most powerful entity on the planet, the first being his creator, the Absolute Being.

However, when Ashborn returned to the battlefield, the Rulers already accomplished their mission. They not only killed the Absolute Being but also used the fragments of his powers to track down the Monarchs.

Centuries later, when Jinwoo and a team of potent hunters showed up at the Double Dungeon raid, the Architect, aka Kandairu, encountered him. Impressed with his survival instincts and strong will to fight, he takes him on board as a player in the System. The program trained him so that he could be the host to Ashborn, but the Architect didn’t know at the time that Ashborn had some other plans for Jinwoo.

Ashborn didn’t want him as a host but as a successor who could carry forward his legacy. He only wanted to prepare Sung Jinwoo for the position through the System. After witnessing Jinwoo’s extraordinary potential in the Monarch War arc, one of the best Solo Leveling arcs, Ashborn transferred his black heart to our protagonist when Beast and Frost Monarch nearly killed him.

Like the System always gave Jinwoo options to choose from, Ashborn appeared as Go Gunhee and asked him to make a decision. The cosmic entity wanted to see if Jinwoo was really someone whom he could trust with the Shadow Monarch’s powers. However, when Jinwoo asked him to show his real face, Ashborn appeared in his true form in front of the boy and made him the new Shadow Monarch.

Will Jinwoo’s Son Become The Third Shadow Monarch?

While Jinwoo was chosen by Ashborn in his teenage years, Sung Suho inherited the powers from his father since birth. His powers were showcased in the space called “The Tutorial,” which Jinwoo had created to train his son.

Jinwoo just wanted to witness the intensity of the powers Suho inherited from him. The boy didn’t take much time to surpass the level of the S-Rank hunters. Jinwoo soon realized that no one except him had the ability to handle the powers of his son. That’s why he erased Suho’s memories of the Tutorial and sealed his powers before heading to Outer space.

Jinwoo wanted to watch Suho live a normal life away from the violence. However, after the apostles of the Outer Gods started showing up on Earth, Jinwoo sent Beru to train his son and make him recall the memories of the Tutorial.

Technically, Sung Suho was the one who would have inherited the powers of Shadow Monarch from his father. However, by the end of the original series, Jinwoo became immortal, so no one had the ability to kill and replace him. Hence, Antares took him as his successor and made him the Monarch of Destruction.

  • Finnish court sets June date for Simon Ekpa’s appearance

A Finnish court has set a June date for the trial of self-styled Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile, (BRIGE), Simon Ekpa, who was arrested last year by the Finland police along with four others on charges related to alleged terrorist activities.

According to the BBC which quoted his new lawyer, Kaarle Gummerus, Ekpa will appear in court in June, as he had already received the pre-trial file of the case and was studying it to prepare for a robust defence.

It also reported that Ekpa had fired his former lawyer, Ilkka Kopara, a few weeks after he was arrested for alleged terror-related offences, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing.

Following his arrest, the Päijät-Häme District Court ordered his remand in custody on charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.

The Finnish government had in November 2024, announced the arrest of Ekpa alongside four of his associates on suspicion of terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing.

During his earlier court appearance, the Finnish police had told the judges that Ekpa allegedly used social media to promote violence in the South-East region of Nigeria, targeting civilians and authorities.

He was subsequently remanded in custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court on charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.

In December 2024, the Nigerian government through the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Nigerian Army, formally submitted the necessary requirements to the Government of Finland for the extradition of Ekpa.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, in an interview in November, had stated that all necessary documentation and legal requirements for Ekpa’s extradition had been forwarded to Finland for review.

“Well, I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere,” Musa had said in the interview following the arrest of the pro-Biafran agitator.

“Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested. The Federal Government has provided most of the required documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right steps will be taken,” the Army chief had added.

  • Target Reels from Boycotts, Employee Revolt, and Massive Losses as Activists Plot Next Moves

Gilroy, CA, USA – July, 16 2008: Target Store at dusk. Target, an American big box retailer, is the anchor tenant for this new shopping center.

By Stacy M. Brown, Senior National Correspondent

Target is spiraling as consumer boycotts intensify, workers push to unionize, and the company faces mounting financial losses following its rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. With foot traffic plummeting, stock prices at a five-year low, and employee discontent boiling over, national civil rights leaders and grassroots organizers are vowing to escalate pressure in the weeks ahead. Led by Georgia pastor Rev. Jamal Bryant, a 40-day “Targetfast” aligned with the Lenten season continues to gain traction. “This is about holding companies accountable for abandoning progress,” Bryant said, as the campaign encourages consumers to shop elsewhere. Groups like the NAACP, the National Newspaper Publishers Association, and The People’s Union USA are amplifying the effort, organizing mass boycotts and strategic buying initiatives to target what they call corporate surrender to bigotry.

Meanwhile, Target’s workforce is in an open revolt. On Reddit, self-identified employees described mass resignations, frustration with meager pay raises, and growing calls to unionize. “We’ve had six people give their two-week notices,” one worker wrote. “A rogue team member gathered us in the back room and started talking about forming a union.” Others echoed the sentiment, with users posting messages like, “We’ve been talking about forming a union at my store too,” and “Good on them for trying to organize—it needs to happen.” Target’s problems aren’t just anecdotal. The numbers reflect a company in crisis. The retail giant has logged 10 straight weeks of falling in-store traffic. In February, foot traffic dropped 9% year-over-year, including a 9.5% plunge on February 28 during the 24-hour “economic blackout” boycott organized by The People’s Union USA. March saw a 6.5% decline compared to the previous year. Operating income fell 21% in the most recent quarter, and the company’s stock (TGT) opened at just $94 on April 14, down from $142 in January before the DEI cuts and subsequent backlash. The economic backlash is growing louder online, too.

“We are still boycotting Target due to them bending to bigotry by eroding their DEI programs,” posted the activist group We Are Somebody on April 14. “Target stock has gone down, and their projections remain flat. DEI was good for business. Do the right thing.” Former congresswoman Nina Turner, a senior fellow at The New School’s Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy, wrote, “Boycotts are effective. Boycotts must have a demand. We will continue to boycott until our demands are met.” More action is on the horizon. Another Target boycott is scheduled for June 3–9, part of a broader campaign targeting corporations that have abandoned DEI initiatives under pressure from right-wing politics and recent executive orders by President Donald Trump. The People’s Union USA, which led the February 28 boycott, has already launched similar weeklong actions against Walmart and announced upcoming boycotts of Amazon (May 6–12), Walmart again (May 20–26), and McDonald’s (June 24–30). The organization’s founder, John Schwarz, said the goal is nothing short of shifting the economic power balance.

“We are going to remind them who has the power,” Schwarz said. “For one day, we turn it off. For one day, we shut it down. For one day, we remind them that this country does not belong to the elite, it belongs to the people.” As for Target, its top executives continue to downplay the damage. During a recent earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Jim Lee described the outlook for 2025 as uncertain, citing the “ripple” effects of tariffs and a wide range of possible outcomes. “We’re going to be focusing on controlling what we can control,” Lee said. But discontent is spreading internally. A Reddit post from a worker claimed, “The HR rep is doing his best to stop the bleeding, but all he did was put a Bluey band-aid on what is essentially a severed limb.”

Several employees criticized the company’s internal rewards system, “Bullseye Bucks,” for offering what amounts to play money. “Can’t pay rent or buy food with Bullseye Bucks,” one wrote. Others urged their colleagues to join unionizing efforts. “Imagine how much Target would lose their mind if they were under a union contract,” one team leader wrote. “It needs to happen at this point.” One former manager said they left the company after an insulting raise. “Quit last year when they gave me a 28-cent raise. Best decision I’ve ever made.” From store floors to boardrooms, the pressure is growing on Target. And as calls for justice, equity, and worker rights get louder, one worker put it plainly: “We’re all screwed—unless we fight back.”

  • Newcastle United were close to signing Manchester United legend

Over the years, Manchester United has seen some of its legendary players leave Old Trafford, only to join rival Premier League clubs.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku made a move to United from Everton before eventually joining Chelsea.

Phil Neville made the switch to Merseyside as well as he joined Everton.

Carlos Tevez and Peter Schmeical both joined Manchester rivals, Manchester City, after their stints with the Red Devils.

It’s always intriguing to consider how these players would have shaped the fortunes of their new teams, had they made their moves earlier.

Yet, few could have imagined a situation where one of United’s greatest-ever forwards could have ended up elsewhere, particularly at a club like Newcastle United.

Wayne Rooney, a player who forever changed Manchester United’s attack, was once very close to playing for a Premier League rival.

But before his legendary career at Old Trafford, the young striker had other options.

Having already established himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest stars during his time at Everton, Wayne Rooney was highly sought after by several top clubs.

His explosive start at Goodison Park and his dazzling performances at Euro 2004 made him a target for Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

Despite all the interest in his services, there was a real chance that Rooney’s career could have taken a very different direction.

Duncan Ferguson, a key figure at Everton, revealed in a recent interview that the young Rooney was moments away from signing for Newcastle United.

Ferguson, who spent years playing alongside Rooney at Everton, recalled his role in advising the talented teenager against making the move to St. James’ Park.

“He was going to go to Newcastle, and I advised him against that move, before he went to Manchester United,” Ferguson explained.

The veteran forward added that he told Rooney in no uncertain terms, “I told him that Newcastle was a great club, but ‘if United and Sir Alex Ferguson want you, you better go.’”

This advice would prove pivotal, as Rooney ultimately chose to join Manchester United in a deal worth £25.6 million.

From there, his career would soar to new heights.

Under Ferguson, Wayne Rooney became one of the greatest players in United’s history, setting records and winning five Premier League titles.

However, his early potential was nearly realized at a club that could have altered his career in a very different way.

Reflecting on this, Ferguson admitted that Rooney’s incredible talent was clear from the start.

“Wayne was only young at the time, but you could see where he was going to get to – he was a top player.”

Ferguson’s influence played a major part in shaping the career of one of England’s greatest-ever strikers.

Had he not stepped in, Rooney’s legacy might have looked very different.

  • FG Will Pay GenCos N2tn In December For Electricity Debts-Minister

The Federal Government on Thursday promised to pay the power generation companies (GenCos) the sum of N2trn out of the N4trn owed them.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that GenCos) had last week issued a warning to the Federal Government over the continued accumulation of debts now totalling over ₦4trn.

The companies announced that they are on the brink of shutting down operations due to the growing liquidity crisis in the power sector.

In a statement released under the umbrella of the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC), the GenCos expressed deep frustration over what they described as “inadequate payment for electricity generated and consumed on the national grid.

Speaking at the sixth edition of the 2025 ministerial briefing in Abuja, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said the N2trn will be paid in cash and on a promissory note.

The promissory note, according to him, would allow the power-generating companies access to financial loans that would aid their generation.

The event was organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

  • Tennessee’s GOP leads fight to deny public education for undocumented children

By KIMBERLEE KRUESI and KRISTIN M. HALL, Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Damian Felipe Jimenez has many dreams about his future — he could be a restaurant owner, a scientist or maybe something else. As he works through sixth grade, he knows education will be critical in making his dreams a reality, but he’s increasingly worried that option could soon disappear for some of his classmates.

Felipe Jimenez is one of hundreds of children who have packed the Tennessee Capitol this year to oppose legislation designed to upend the long-standing U.S. constitutional right to free public education for children, regardless of immigration status. It’s a protection established by the landmark 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Plyler v. Doe, which struck down a Texas law that sought to deny enrollment to any student not “legally admitted” into the country.

“I am the son of immigrant parents who have shown me to respect and value everyone,” Felipe Jimenez told lawmakers earlier this year, speaking on behalf of the impact the bill would have on his peers. “Just like me and all the kids in this country, we have the right to dream and make those dreams come true. The right to an education should not be taken away from us because of our immigration status.”

A growing number of conservative leaders are pushing states to overturn Plyler v. Doe — including the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation. This year, Tennessee’s Republican lawmakers appear the most willing to take up the cause by advancing legislation that directly contradicts the Supreme Court’s decision and would spark a legal battle that supporters hope will not only go before the high court but also allow justices to reverse the ruling.

GOP-led states have introduced a plethora of anti-immigration bills following President Donald Trump’s reelection and his subsequent moves to aggressively deport immigrants who have entered the U.S. illegally. But few have followed Tennessee’s lead to focus on revoking public education from children, and none have made it out of committee.

An uphill fight but a different Supreme Court

The Republican-controlled Tennessee Senate has approved a proposal requiring proof of legal residence to enroll in public K-12 public schools and allowing schools to either turn away students who fail to provide proper documentation or charge them tuition. The House version differs by letting public schools check immigration status, rather than requiring it.

The two versions will need to be reconciled before they can head to Republican Gov. Bill Lee’s desk. If it passes, the legislation is all but certain to face a lawsuit.

FILE – Gisselle Huerta, left, yells against a bill that would allow public and charter schools to deny immigrant students from enrolling during a House meeting of the Education K-12 subcommittee, in Nashville, Tenn., March 11, 2025. (AP Photo/George Walker IV, File)

The sponsors of the proposal have largely downplayed denying children the right to education, but instead have focused on the fiscal impact states are facing in educating children residing in the U.S. illegally.

“It’s been argued that undocumented illegal aliens pay sales tax and property tax,” said Republican Sen. Bo Watson, the backer of the bill in the Senate. “True. But one doesn’t know if those payments come close to offsetting the additional costs. We argue they do not.”

It’s unknown how many undocumented children live in Tennessee, and it’s unclear if the proposal would result in any savings. When Texas made similar economic arguments in the Plyler case, it was rejected by the court.

Lawmakers and other conservative supporters repeatedly point to the 5-4 vote that determined Plyler in 1982, stressing the narrow decision means there is wiggle room to overturn the precedent — particularly under the current Supreme Court that has been open to reversing legal precedent, including on the right to abortion.

“It doesn’t take one too long to figure out that there’s a strong appetite by the conservatives on the Supreme Court to overturn precedent,” said Brett Geier, a professor of educational leadership at Western Michigan University. “And where does it come from? It starts with the states.”

The first test against the Plyler decision came in 1994 in California. Voters there approved a proposition prohibiting immigrants in the country without legal authorization from receiving public health care, education or other social services. That law was overturned.

In 2011, the Plyler precedent was challenged again after Alabama lawmakers required schools to determine student immigration status. That statute was eventually blocked after a legal challenge resulted in a settlement.

“I don’t see real debates about this. I see symbolic measures that are supported by some groups of Republican legislators,” said Thomas Saenz, president of the law firm Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, which successfully defended the plaintiffs before the Supreme Court in the Plyler case.

“They do trot up same old arguments from the 1970s about the burden of the costs, etc., etc.,” Saenz added. “They never balance that against the benefit of taxes being paid by these kids and their parents.”

For children, the fight turns personal

For months, as GOP lawmakers have defended the legislation, the tone of those who have shown up to fight against the bill has often turned emotional. Students have broken down in tears, distraught over their classmates being removed from their school and worries over who might be next.

As the Senate voted earlier this month, 12-year-old Silvestre Correa Del Canto stood outside in the crowded second floor of the Capitol with his mother, alarmed that the legislation could hurt children who don’t make the decisions about where they live and could impact their lives for years.

His family brought him to Nashville when he was 3 from Santiago, Chile. He now attends a public middle school that was originally a segregated school for African Americans. He connected that legacy to the Tennessee legislation.

“I feel like we’ve worked a lot to be connected again, people with people and going to school together,” Correa Del Canto, a sixth grader, said. “And I feel like that would be just going steps back, just going back in time and like losing all that we’ve worked for.”

Associated Press writer David Lieb contributed from Jefferson City, Missouri.
