  • 2 US troops killed, 1 injured at southern border

Two U.S. Marines were killed and another was hospitalized in “serious condition” on Tuesday in a “vehicle accident” that occurred near the southern border between the United States and Mexico.

In a Tuesday press release shared by U.S. Northern Command on X, formerly Twitter, Joint Task Force Southern Border Public Affairs announced, “Three service members deployed in support of Joint Task Force Southern Border were involved in a vehicle accident at approximately 8:50 a.m. MDT today near Santa Teresa, N.M. Two of the service members were killed while one remains in serious condition at a local hospital facility.”

Joint Task Force Southern Border explained that the names of the U.S. service members killed in Tuesday’s vehicle accident “will not be released until the next of kin have been notified.” Officials also confirmed that the cause of Tuesday’s vehicle accident remains under investigation.

Sources familiar with Tuesday’s vehicle accident identified the two deceased service members and the injured service member as U.S. Marines and told The New York Post that the accident occurred as the Marines were driving a civilian jeep on a two-lane highway and attempted to pass another vehicle. The sources told The New York Post that the vehicle fell into a 10-foot ditch known as “Snake Canyon,” which is often used by smugglers, and crashed into solid rock.

One source described Snake Canyon as “treacherous, while another source told The New York Post, “It would be a horrible place to go off the road because the canyon is right off the shoulder. It has concrete tunnels that run underneath the highway and we have sensors there because illegal aliens hide under it and then get picked up by a load vehicle.”

A source told The New York Post that a U.S. Border Patrol agent who attempted to save the three service members involved in Tuesday’s accident was “covered head to toe” in blood after responding to the incident. The outlet reported that the two deceased service members were airlifted to a local hospital before dying from their injuries. Meanwhile, sources told The New York Post that the third service member injured in Tuesday’s accident remains in critical but stable condition.

  • CBEX Not Registered By Us, Says SEC

The Securities and Exchange Commission has stated that Crypto Bridge Exchange also known as CBEX was not granted registration by the Commission at any time to operate as a Digital Assets Exchange.

In a circular dated April 17, 2025, the Commission stated that CBEX has held itself out as a digital asset-trading platform, offering high returns to investors in Nigeria.

The Commission clarified that neither CBEX nor its affiliates were granted registration at any time to operate as a Digital Assets Exchange, solicit investments from the public or perform any other function within the Nigerian capital market.

It said, “Preliminary investigations carried out by the Commission have revealed that CBEX engaged in promotional activities to create a false perception of legitimacy, in order to entice unsuspecting members of the public into investing monies, with the promise of implausibly high guaranteed returns within a short timeframe.

“CBEX has failed to honour withdrawal requests from their subscribers and abruptly closed their physical offices, amid mounting complaints.

“The SEC emphasised that pursuant to the provisions of Section 196 of the Investments and Securities Act 2025, the Commission would collaborate with relevant law enforcement agencies to take appropriate enforcement action against the CBEX, its affiliates and promoters.

“The Commission uses this medium to remind the public to REFRAIN from investing in or dealing with any entity offering unrealistic returns or employing similar recruitment-based investment models. Prospective investors are advised to VERIFY the registration status of investment platforms via the Commission’s dedicated portal: www.sec.gov.ng/cmos before transacting with them.”

SEC Director General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, had recently said the Commission is launching a more forceful and coordinated enforcement regime against unregistered and illegal “phoney” investment schemes, otherwise known as Ponzi schemes.

Agama said with the newly enacted Investments and Securities Act, 2025 (ISA 2025), the Commission now has enhanced powers to prosecute Ponzi schemes and their promoters.

He said investigations were ongoing on CBEX, adding that promoters of the failed scheme will not go scot-free.

Agama said the new law has given the Commission more powers and blocked loopholes in emerging areas of virtual and digital assets.

“The ISA 2025 has given the Commission the legal backing to provide clarity, ensure investor protection, and enhance market confidence, especially in new and previously unregulated segments such as digital asset exchanges and online foreign exchange platforms,” Agama said.

He said that while the apex capital market regulator would continue to support innovations in finance and investments, the Commission would maintain strict oversight in line with its enhanced investor’s protection mandate.

“We welcome innovation, but it must occur within a regulated environment that protects investors and maintains the integrity of our market,” Agama said.

He recalled that SEC had even with the limited scope of the repealed Act maintained extensive surveillance and was able to shut down a number of Ponzi schemes, with some of the promoters like Fahmzi Interbiz jailed for defrauding Nigerians.

According to him, with the ISA 2025 that gives the Commission more powers to deal with issues, the Commission will ensure that promoters of such schemes are not allowed to operate.

  • Actors Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo reportedly in talks for the roles of Ryu and Ken in upcoming Street Fighter movie

We’ve heard since back in April 2023 about Legendary Entertainment’s Street Fighter movie, though our most recent news regarding it was about potential delays from its originally intended March 2026 release date.

The film was removed from the studio’s release schedule leading to speculation that it may have been cancelled all-together, but some reports today seem to indicate that such is not the case.

According to an article at Nexus Point News, the Street Fighter movie is beginning to get some casting.

Not just any casting, either, but the two most important roles for a Street Fighter project — franchise faces Ryu and Ken.

Reportedly, the role of Ryu would be going to British-Japanese actor Andrew Koji, most known for his main cast role as Ah Sahm in the television show Warrior between 2019 and 2023 and for portraying Storm Shadow in 2021’s Snake Eyes as well as Yuichi Kimura in 2022’s Bullet Train.

As for Ken, the article claims that the person being eyed for the role is American actor Noah Centineo known for portraying the main role of Owen Hendricks in the television show The Recruit between 2022 and 2025 as well as appearing in 2022’s Black Adam as Atom Smasher.

This news comes a few months after hearing that Kitao Sakurai will be directing the film.

It’s clear that the film isn’t going to be released March 2026 as originally intended (as evidenced further by being removed from the release schedule for said date), but these rumblings do suggest that the project is progressing nicely.

For Capcom, there’s definitely good incentive to see the movie come to fruition since despite its mixed reception at the time, the old 1994 Street Fighter movie is still a stable revenue stream for Capcom so any new movie, especially if it were to resonate with the franchise’s massive fan base would undoubtedly bolster such profits even further.

There’s no official announcement for casting yet, but if the report from Nexus Point News does end up ringing true, these look like two very good picks for the two main characters and iconic rivals of Street Fighter.

Do you have any dream castings you’re hoping to see for any other roles in this project? Let us know in the comments below.

  • BREAKING: Gunmen Attack Senator Natasha’s Family House In Kogi State Amid Claims That She Visited

Armed men have launched an attack on the family house of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State, in what appears to be a politically motivated incident.

The assailants, believed to be targeting the Senator herself, reportedly vandalised windows in her late grandfather’s home before being repelled by a swift response from civil defence operatives and members of the local community.

According to what SaharaReporters gathered on Thursday, the gunmen stormed the property on Tuesday night, under the false assumption that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was inside the house at the time of the attack.

A statement from the Senator’s media team condemned the attack as a “brazen and calculated assault,” suggesting that the incident may be linked to her outspoken criticism of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she recently accused of sexual harassment.

“The armed men, mistakenly believing the Senator was present, vandalised windows in her grandfather’s house,” the statement read.
“Fortunately, security operatives swiftly responded and repelled the attackers. This calculated assault appears to be a direct response to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s courageous stance against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.”

The media team further called on the Inspector General of Police to “immediately reinstate her security details” to ensure her safety.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also shared her account of the harrowing event to SaharaReporters.

“Two days ago, my younger brother took some contractors to my hometown in Ihima to inspect locations for upcoming projects I attracted to my senatorial district,” she said.
“The unknown gunmen assumed I was the one in town and attacked my family house that night. Thankfully, the civil defence team and community members responded promptly and chased them off. A report was made at the police area command, and no one was hurt.”

She urged the public to remain calm and not be intimidated by such violent tactics.

“We call on the public to remain calm and support the pursuit of justice. My dedication to speaking truth and representing my constituents should not be met with violence and intimidation,” the Senator said.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate, has been an outspoken advocate for transparency, women’s rights, and justice in governance.

The attack raises concerns about the safety of public officials who challenge entrenched political powers.

On April 11, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that the suspended senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, strongly responded to a formal petition filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in which she is accused of criminal defamation and incitement over allegations of an assassination plot.

But Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, speaking through her legal counsel Victor Giwa, said her comments were not made for political leverage but out of genuine fear for her safety.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate for six months under controversial circumstances earlier this year.
SaharaReporters on Thursday reported that Senate President Godswill Akpabio had formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, seeking an investigation into an alleged assassination plot made against him by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In the petition dated April 3, 2025, Akpabio denied the serious accusation and called for the prosecution of Akpoti-Uduaghan for criminal defamation.
The petition, which was also copied to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), comes after Akpoti-Uduaghan’s public outburst on April 1, 2025.
During a speech in Kogi State, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of instructing former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello to assassinate her in Kogi State, claiming that the act was intended to make it appear that her constituents were responsible for her death.
Akpabio categorically denied the accusation, calling it a “heinous lie” and a “reckless and deliberate attempt” to tarnish his reputation.
In his petition, the Senate President labelled the allegation as politically motivated, accusing Akpoti-Uduaghan of attempting to incite political unrest and damage his public image.
He stressed that the allegation was made without any supporting evidence.
The Senate President also highlighted the severe impact of the false allegation, especially given its widespread coverage across media platforms, including radio, television, and social media. He had urged law enforcement agencies to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

  • AfDB boss, Adesina, identifies cause of Africa’s economic stagnation

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has renewed his call for African nations to break free from the cycle of poverty by halting the export of raw materials and embracing industrialisation through value addition.

In a post shared on Thursday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Adesina described the continued export of unprocessed commodities as a major contributor to the continent’s economic stagnation.

“Africa must end the exports of its raw materials. The export of raw materials is the door to poverty. The export of value-added products is the highway to wealth. And Africa is tired of being poor,” he stated.

Despite being richly endowed with natural resources ranging from oil and gas to rare minerals and agricultural produce, Africa contributes less than 2 per cent to global manufacturing output, according to data from the Office of the United States Trade Representative and other multilateral sources. Its share of global trade also lingers below 3 per cent.

For Adesina, this is not just an economic failure, but a strategic misstep. Over the years, he has championed policies that prioritise agro-industrialisation, regional integration, and infrastructure development as key levers for sustainable transformation.

The AfDB has been instrumental in backing initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), aimed at boosting intra-African commerce and promoting industrial growth across the continent.

Beyond industrialisation, Adesina recently raised concerns about the inequitable distribution of international financial support. He criticised the International Monetary Fund’s allocation of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), which saw Africa receiving just $33 billion, or 4.5 per cent, of the $650 billion issued globally, despite being one of the hardest-hit regions economically during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response, the AfDB, in collaboration with the African Union, has led efforts to rechannel unused SDRs from wealthier nations to African economies. Through a newly endorsed framework—developed alongside the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and approved by the IMF Board—the plan seeks to optimise Africa’s access to global liquidity by leveraging the AfDB’s AAA credit rating.
