  • Today’s Wordle Hints, Answer for #1399 on April 18, 2025

NYT Wordle is a satisfying and tricky test of vocabulary and logic that challenges players to guess a new five-letter word every day. However, things can get a little too challenging at times, and that probably explains why you’re here. So, if you don’t want to break your word-guessing streak or get too frustrated, take a look at today’s Wordle hints and answer for puzzle #1399 for April 18, 2025, down below!

    How to Play Wordle

Wordle is a word puzzle game by The New York Times. You are given six attempts to guess a five-letter word. The letters are highlighted in Yellow, Green, and Grey when you input a word. Yellow denotes that the letter appears in today’s Wordle answer, but it’s not at the right spot. Meanwhile, when a letter turns green, it means you have guessed the right letter in the right position. At last, a grey letter means the letter is not part of today’s answer.

While it may seem that winning at Wordle is easy, it is difficult to get that pesky five-letter word right. To help you out, here are some quick tips on how to play Wordle:

    • Open with a strong word – Using the right Wordle starting words rich with multiple vowels and consonants is important. While you can take a look at our dedicated guide, starting words like AISLE, SALTY, and DINER are my go-to choices.
    • Pay attention to colors – Keep track of the yellow, green, and grayed-out letters to eliminate incorrect positions and letters. To make every guess count, avoid accidentally repeating letters that have already been eliminated.
    • Isolate the vowels – There can be days when your usual starting words don’t help much. In that case, try to test the remaining vowels by using different words.
    • Repeating letters is good – Don’t be afraid of repeating letters as history is proof that there are chances the Wordle answer will have one or two letters that repeat themselves.
    • Use the Wordlebot – As described above, NYT’s Wordlebot is an intuitive bot that analyzes your responses and compares them against itself. Instilling some healthy competition can help you improve your own Wordle guessing and see what you could have done better.

Meaning of Dirge — A dirge is a slow, sad song or piece of music that expresses mourning for someone who has died. It’s often performed at funerals.

Today’s Wordle was quite challenging, and I found myself cornered, big time. SALTY and POUCH didn’t lead anywhere today, and DINER was an absolute hero, having a “D” and an “I” in green to offer. Additionally, I got an “E” and an “R” in yellow. So, I tried “DIRTY” next and got a green “R”. I still had no idea where this was going, so I tried “DIRER” next, which confirmed that there were no double letters in the answer. After trying several combinations, DIRGE turned out to be the Wordle answer for the day.

  •  Brown Vs. Board of Education. Roe Vs. Wade. Landmark Case Poised To Make Same Historic Impact On DEI

Dr. Johné E. Battle once the face of Dollar General Store’s DEI initiatives and policies, is now entangled in a federal lawsuit with the retail giant that is poised to have a landmark impact on DEI. Photo

Top Executive battles the country’s largest retailer in court & on the front lines

Nashville, TN – March 27, 2025 – A historic, multimillion-dollar lawsuit has been filed in federal court, spearheaded by award-winning Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Top Executive Dr. Johné Battle, on behalf of himself and 75,000 Black and Brown workers against Dollar General – the nation’s largest brick-and-mortar retailer. This groundbreaking case will redefine corporate accountability, racial equity, and racial justice. Unbeknownst to many, Tennessee-based Dollar General Store operates over 20,000 storesemploys approximately 170,000 workers, and generated a whopping $40 billion in revenue last year. Dollar General is TWICE the size of Walmart & Target, COMBINED! The company faces allegations of systemic racial discrimination that have affected thousands of marginalized employees nationwide and cost the top executive, his job and millions in salary. With 75% of U.S. households living within a five-mile radius of a Dollar General store, the milestone case underscores the widespread impact of the company’s biased employment practices and is, by far, the most egregious in the wake of the country’s “anti-woke” climate and the recent attempts at dismantling racial equity. This groundbreaking case is poised to shine the brightest light, to date, on the DEI dilemma and its historically destructive impact on inclusion in America. It is poised to do for DEI what Brown vs. The Board of Education did for education and what Roe vs. Wade did for abortion.

“I want to be clear, everything that you have discovered in the counter-claim response that was filed in federal court is true, accurate and can be corroborated by multiple eyewitnesses that were present as the events unfolded,” said Dr. Battle. “The counter-claim is a small snapshot of the barriers that many Chief Diversity Officers face when trying to help organizations on their transformational journeys. The fight for equity in corporate American is a modern civil rights struggle, and Chief Diversity Officers often stand on the front lines, pushing for systemic changes in the face of deep resistance. The first casualty of war is the truth.”

The lawsuit challenges Dollar General’s alleged quiet, massive, and multi-layered cover-up in its bigoted hiring, promotion, and pay practices when comparing Dollar General’s employees of color to the company’s white workers. Full complaint here: https://bit.ly/drjohneebattle.

Battle has referred to it as a new age, cryptic “plantation-style” culture. Amid unfounded U.S. tariffs and a remarkable economic downturn, Dollar General is the ONLY company, quietly, thriving. With Dollar General being TWICE the size of Walmart & Target, Civil rights leaders are organizing one of the LARGEST DEI marches and boycotts that will take place at Dollar General headquarters in Nashville, TN.

    ABOUT DR. JOHNÉ BATTLE

Dr. Johné Battle is a globally recognized DEI leader, advocate, and changemaker. With a decorated career in fighting for workplace equity and justice, he has led numerous initiatives to dismantle systemic racism in corporate America. His leadership in this lawsuit aims to set a precedent for fair and equitable treatment of Black and Brown employees in major corporations.

  • Wayne Rooney reveals managerial dream

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has shifted his footballing career from player to management and now to pundit.

Over the last four years, the former striker has managed Derby, D.C. United, Birmingham and Plymouth, and has been without a club since December.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast back in January about his time in the hot seat at Plymouth Argyle, Rooney commented: “I would like to go back in [to management], but it would have to be the right club. Certainly the right club.”

He continued: “I think you always have that ego, don’t you? You always have that confidence you could go in and get the best out of a bad, or difficult, situation. Obviously, that wasn’t the case [at Plymouth].

“I’m going to enjoy time with my family, though.”

However, the former striker is now linked with a return to management with Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn are currently tenth in the Championship, looking to remain in the competition next season, potentially without current manager Valerien Ismael.

  • Leaked White House Doc: Monster Budget Cut Proposal @ Fed Health Agencies

Leaked White House Doc: Monster Budget Cut Proposal @ Fed Health Agencies

Document calls for slashing “tens of billions of dollars” annually, targeting a host of programs across multiple agencies. ~CNN

(ZH) – The Trump administration could slash roughly one-third of the federal government’s bloated health budget, a leaked White House proposal shows. The plan, first reported by the Washington Post and detailed in documents acquired by CNN, calls for slashing “tens of billions of dollars” annually, targeting a host of programs across multiple agencies.

The proposal, already sent to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), aligns with HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative and tech titan Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, sources say.

The proposal, part of President Donald Trump’s broader push to curb government waste, would eliminate billions in annual spending and reign in a sprawling bureaucracy that employs 82,000 workers across 10 regional offices, with average salaries of $100,000 plus generous benefits.

    CNN reports:

The plan calls for steep cuts to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which would see its budget reduced by more than 40% under the administration’s proposal.

It also eliminates CDC’s global health center and programs focused on chronic disease prevention, and domestic HIV/AIDS prevention. While some of the agency’s work would be moved into new AHA centers, programs on gun violence, injury prevention, youth violence prevention, drowning, minority health and others would be eliminated entirely.

The preliminary plan would slash the National Institutes of Health’s budget by more than 40% and reduce its 27 research institutes and centers down to just eight.

This month, HHS launched its initial wave of layoffs, with 10,000 employees slated for termination in the coming weeks.

The COVID-19 pandemic is over, and HHS will no longer waste billions of taxpayer dollars responding to a non-existent pandemic that Americans moved on from years ago. HHS is prioritizing funding projects that will deliver on President Trump’s mandate to address our chronic disease epidemic and Make America Healthy Again,” the agency said in a statement at the time of the first cuts.

The annual budget of the HHS is a staggering $1.8 trillion.

As we previously noted, the agency was infamously implicated in funding controversial gain-of-function research through EcoHealth Alliance through Dr. Anthony Fauci’s NIAID. These efforts, tied to the Wuhan Level 4 Virology Lab in China – widely considered COVID-19’s ground zero – allegedly produced human-transmissible coronaviruses, sparking a deadly pandemic and draconian lockdowns around the world. How could we forget?

  • Police Debunk Arrest Of Boko Haram Suspects In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a report published in a national daily on Thursday, claiming that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were arrested in the state.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, described the report as false, malicious, and ill-intended.

According to Hundeyin, no such arrests or sightings of the terrorist group occurred anywhere in the state.

Following the publication, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an immediate investigation to verify the authenticity of the claims.

According to the statement, findings from the investigation revealed no evidence supporting the arrest of Boko Haram suspects in any part of Lagos.

“The outcome of the investigation reveals that there is nowhere throughout Lagos State that the group mentioned in the report – Boko Haram – were seen or sighted or arrested.

“Furthermore, in the trailer park communities mentioned, the leaders, operators, and drivers in the indicated places in the report clarified to the police that there were no such elements of Boko Haram seen or arrested in those localities,” the statement read.

Additionally, detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) and other specialised units were deployed to the said locations for verification, but no one confirmed the presence or arrest of such group members.

The police command criticised the publication for attempting to spread fear and panic among residents, urging Lagosians to disregard the report and continue their daily activities without fear.

“The report in its entirety is false, malicious, and ill-intended to cause fear and apprehension in the minds of the public. Lagosians are thereby enjoined to disregard and discountenance the write-up as untrue and a figment of the imagination of the writer which is very unfortunate and despicable and should be outrightly ignored.

“Members of the general public in Lagos State are encouraged by the Commissioner of Police to go about their duties and other means of livelihood without fear or apprehension,” the statement added.

The Command also called on media organisations to verify information before publication, warning against the spread of fake news that could threaten public peace.

  • Court calls Trump administration’s defiance over mistakenly deported man ‘shocking’

    By MICHAEL KUNZELMAN, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration’s claim that it can’t do anything to free Kilmar Abrego Garcia from an El Salvador prison and return him to the U.S. “should be shocking,” a federal appeals court said Thursday in a scathing order.

A three-judge panel from the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously refused to suspend a judge’s decision to order sworn testimony by Trump administration officials to determine if they complied with her instruction to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s return.

Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III, who was nominated by Republican President Ronald Reagan, wrote that he and his two colleagues “cling to the hope that it is not naïve to believe our good brethren in the Executive Branch perceive the rule of law as vital to the American ethos.”

“This case presents their unique chance to vindicate that value and to summon the best that is within us while there is still time,” Wilkinson wrote.

Andalusia Chamber cleaning up the town with annual ‘Clean and Green’ events

    Published 2:27 pm Thursday, April 17, 2025

The Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce invites the community to participate in this year’s Clean and Green April, featuring an electronics recycling drop-off throughout the month and a community-wide Litter Round-Up Day on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

As part of the chamber’s ongoing effort to promote environmental responsibility and community pride, the chamber is making it easier than ever for residents to safely dispose of old electronics while also taking action to beautify the city.

One part of the Clean and Green initiative is to help the community dispose of electronic items. The chamber has placed a recycling trailer behind the chamber office at 700 River Falls St. where residents can drop off outdated or unused electronics throughout the month or until the trailer is full.

Items accepted for recycling include computers, monitors, phones, tablets, chargers, televisions, DVD players, printers, keyboards, other electronic accessories, and basically any item with a plug or battery.

Items not accepted include batteries, fluorescent bulbs, refrigerators, microwaves, and other hazardous materials. For more information about what is accepted, residents can call the chamber office at 334-222-2030 for more details.

The cleanup effort will focus on Moore Road and other suggested locations. The event will end at approximately 11 a.m.

Those wishing to volunteer are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring gloves if possible. The chamber will provide vests, bags and gloves.

“This is a great opportunity to come together as a community, make a visible difference, and celebrate Earth Month in a hands-on way,” said Chamber Director Mellisa King.
