  • TECHNOLOGY: Apple sued because iPhone isn't really 16 GB

    By EYIZLE ENE-OKON

”If you have a 16 GB iPhone, you’ve probably noticed that you don’t really have 16 GB of storage space — some of that space is taken up by Apple’s iOS software. But you probably haven’t thought to sue Apple over it”.

That’s the difference between you and two Apple customers in Miami who sued Apple for their incredible shrinking storage.
The plaintiffs filed their lawsuit in a California federal court on Tuesday, and they are seeking permission to make their complaint a class action suit. They are seeking more than $5 million in damages for what they say is Apple’s false advertising.
Apple’s new iOS 8 software takes up 3 GB of storage on an iPhone 6. That’s 19% of the phone’s 16 GB of advertised storage. The iOS 8 software takes up 20% of an iPhone 6 Plus’ storage and 21% of an iPad’s free space.
According our correspondence; “Apple’s misrepresentations and omissions are deceptive and  as such misleads costomers because they omit material facts that an average consumer would consider in deciding whether to purchase its products,” the plaintiffs say in their complaint.
Rather than try to cram everything into what little space they have on their smartphones, many people choose to back up their photos, videos and other content on cloud services, such as Apple’s iCloud. But the plaintiffs say that’s all part of Apple’s game.
“Apple exploits the discrepancy between represented and available capacity for its own gain by offering to sell, and by selling, cloud storage capacity to purchasers whose internal storage capacity is at or near exhaustion,” the complaint says.
Apple did not reply to a request for comment

  • POEM: Love World

    By Itohowo Abasiemek

In life we all face different challenges, go
    through problems from career(choice,
admission, surviving in school), from finance
(fees, bills, money to change wardrobe, cash
to help people when you want to, the money
to live a fulfilled life), from family(where your
parents want you to be that “NO FAULT KID”
forgetting that you have your own weaknesses,
where mum n dad don’t understand you so
they keep comparing you to your friends
forgetting they too are not perfect, where your
parents constantly tell you to your face you’re
a disgrace when what you want from them
that minute is their word of advice. You come
back from school with lots of challenges but
you cant dare say it out for fear of hearing
your dad tell you, you’re a black sheep. It
happens and just then your sibling will come
up with a silly joke, not knowing how you feel
about it, letting you walk the cold alone when
what you need is an embrace).
Yes, we go through these things and
sometimes we feel less of ourselves and other
times we don’t wanna live any more
It happens but what will giving up achieve for
us? Do we constantly tell ourselves, “we are
destined for greatness, i will go through this
hurdles a winner or do we just throw our
hands up in the air and give up? The fact that
    someone said you’re a looser doesn’t mean
you are, what matters is what you say about
    yourself that matters…
You deserve to be a winner, you deserve to
live your dreams, you deserve to get that
degree, you deserve to mount that stage with
50000 fans cheering, you deserve to run that
business and be successful, you deserve to
own that orphanage and help the less
privileged, yea.. you deserve it… so stop
letting people weigh you down with boring
talks, tell yourself am better than that, have
faith in yourself, be your biggest fan even
when no one wants to see things your way…
be your own best friend and you shall achieve
    that dream of yours…

This is a testament to the  growing number of people who use the Android phones daily.
But many a time most people don’t actually know the features of these phones and what to look out for. It is either they get the wrong choice or get something that is different from what they set out to buy.
Phone sellers have also taken advantage of this to swindle most people, thereby charging more for far cheaper and less quality phones.
In a chat with a civil servant in Lagos state Mrs. Judith Abosede, “I went to GSM village to buy a new phone that will be compatible with Whatsapp and that can ping, and on purchase I told the attendant I want a phone with android functions only for me to get home and was mocked by my children, saying the phone can only call and send text messages and was told such phones are called…………….
A mobile phone dealer said, “These people are not just selling sub- standard phones, some buyers are selfish in their spending, they want a big phone for a relative cheap price and they get what they paid for”.
