  • Motorola’s Moto Book 60 Laptop Arrives in Stunning Colors; Moto Pad 60 Pro Tags Along

Motorola has introduced two new smartphones in India and a stunning laptop! Yes, it’s not every day we see Motorola computers, but Lenovo is well-known in this regard with its traditional laptops. It seems that the popular computing brand now wants to try with Motorola’s name in this field. Two devices are reaching India today: the Moto Pad 60 Pro tablet and the Moto Book 60 laptop. The devices follow the Pantone color design that the company’s phones bring, and both are capable of mid-range specifications and prices.

    Moto Pad 60 Pro Specifications

The Moto Pad 60 Pro arrives with a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 SoC and 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The storage is 128 GB or 256 GB. Motorola also added a microSD slot for up to 1 TB of extra memory. The device flaunts a large 12.7-inch LTPS LCD with up to 144 Hz refresh rate. The resolution is 2,944 x 1,840 pixels. The tablet comes with support for a Moto Pen Pro stylus. It comes with a set included in the retail box. It offers quad JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos support and brings AI tools with Google integration, including Circle to Search.

The battery of the Moto Pad 60 Pro has a 10,200 mAh battery capacity and supports 45W wired charging. The smartphone has a 13 MP main camera and an 8 MP front-facing shooter for video calls. The specifications are anything but new because this device is a rebadged Lenovo Idea Tab Pad Pro. Curiously, it was launched last month in India in a sober Gray color. If you prefer a Motorola logo in a fancy green or blue color, then it’s your turn.

    Moto Book 60

Motorola currently sells the Moto Pad 60 Pro only in Pantone Bronze Green color. It costs INR 26,999 ($315 / €280) for the base model with 8GB/128 GB. The INR 29,999 ($350/310) option brings 12GB/256 GB. The sale will begin next Wednesday, April 23, with the tablet being available on Flipkart, Motorola India’s online store, and select offline retailers.

    Moto Book 60

The Moto Book 60 certainly will be a piece that collectors won’t miss. It’s a Windows laptop exclusively launched in India in Bronze Green or Wedgewood color options. The device has an Intel Core 5 or an Intel Core 7 processor. Both are paired with 16 GB of RAM and 512 or 1 TB of Internal Storage. The device packs a 14-inch OLED screen with 2.8K resolution. There are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. Motorola equipped the laptop with a 60Wh battery that supports 65W charging over USB-C.

    Moto Book 60

The Moto Book 60 has one version with 16GB RAM, 512GB storage, and an Intel Core 5 processor. It sells for INR 66,990 ($785). There is also a variant with Intel Core 7 that costs about INR 74,990 ($875) and one with 1 TB of storage that sells for INR 78,990 ($925). Just like the tablet, the new laptop will sell through Flipkart from April 23. It will also be available in some offline stores and Motorola India website.

  • Late drama as Man Utd win Lyon thriller to reach Europa semis, Spurs through

Manchester United put up a fantastic performance in extra time to beat Lyon at Old Trafford and reach the semifinal of the Europa League.

The Red Devils had been held to a 2-2 draw in France last week and also got held to another 2-2 draw tonight after 90 minutes.

Lyon forced the game into extra time after coming from two goals down to level. But it was Manchester United who won the clash 5-4 after extra time.

United scored twice in the final minute of extra time to complete a staggering comeback from 4-2 down against 10-man Lyon, scaling through to the semifinal with a 7-6 aggregate victory.

Ruben Amorim’s side now face a semi-final with Athletic Bilbao.

Read Also: Holders Real Madrid out of Champions League as Arsenal, Inter through

Earlier, Tottenham Hotspur also reached the semifinal of the Europa League after defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 in the second leg of their last eight tie.

Dominic Solanke’s first-half penalty was enough to keep Spur’s season alive after a 1-1 first-leg scoreline, as they advance with a 2-1 victory on aggregate.

In the other Europa League ties, Athletic Bilbao advanced ahead of Rangers after a 2-0 win, while Bodo/Glimt defeated Lazio 3-2 on penalties after a 3-e aggregate draw after extra time.

In the Europa Conference League, Chelsea booked their semifinal spot despite a 2-1 home defeat. The Blues had beaten Legia Warsaw 3-0 from the first leg, hence they go through 4-2 on aggregate.

  • Five things learnt from Man Utd 5-4 Lyon

Goodness gracious me, where do we begin?

Do we start with the fact Man Utd raced into a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to go and found themselves 4-2 down in extra time?

Or should we analyse the fact that the Red Devils rallied to score three goals in six minutes to astonishingly win the game?

There are certain nights like this that occur when following Man Utd. Where you remember why there is a uniqueness to the remarkable, baffling magic that happens at this club.

With everything riding on the line to salvage the 24/25 season, Utd impossibly came back from being 4-2 down with six minutes left to play and qualified for the semi finals of the Europa League.

On a night to remember, here are five things we learnt from an astounding quarter final:

    1. Bafflingly Brilliant Comeback

It never feels like it’s straight forward with this Man Utd team but this took the cake.

When Man Utd played ball after ball over the top in the first half, the tie was looking comfortable.

Anything can happen in knockout football as Lyon struck back with two goals in six minutes and then scored two more in extra time.

Amorim went for broke and threw everyone forward with Harry Maguire and Casemiro the aim for crosses into the box. Both players have an underrated ability to threaten up front and create chaos which is exactly what they did.

The resilience from this Man Utd team was incredible. To continue going and believing that they could turn a result around deserves massive credit.

The fact that they executed the comeback was even more staggering.

    2. Errors under Amorim continue

There has been problems under Amorim in terms of adapting to the system and finding the right players that work, but there has also been a huge amount of errors and horrendous game management.

With 20 minutes left and the tie looking secured, United opened the door for Lyon just as they did in France.

Defensive mistakes and lapses in judgement have been a constant under the Portuguese manager. The game should have never got the point where Man Utd needed to score three in extra time and they must learn to manage the game better and dictate the tempo.

    3. Penalty in extra time changed the game

Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty dagger in extra time put Lyon 4-2 up and at that point Man Utd looked dead and buried.

The Red Devils still piled forward and it paid off with Casemiro’s box presence resulting in a penalty. With the crowd roaring behind them Man Utd pressed on.

The penalty gave Man Utd a lifeline and the encouragement to hunt for an equaliser and then the winner.

In recent years, this Man Utd side seems to rely on leaning into the chaos in order to salvage important games, it was the same when they won the FA Cup last season under Erik ten Hag.

The frustrating aspect is getting consistent performances week in, week out and not just in big games.

But Man Utd’s ability to do it when the chips are down and when it matters is clear.

    4. Kobbie Mainoo’s excellent goal

Kobbie Mainoo has not played enough under Amorim as the English midfielder has struggled with injuries.

His goal in the 120th minute was a pertinent reminder that Man Utd have the answer to their central midfield problem right in front of them.

Mainoo is a player who debuted under difficult circumstances before having a crazily successful season under Ten Hag, he’s unfazed by the biggest of games and can deliver the goods when needed.

His FA Cup final goal showed this.

The goal vs Lyon had echoes of his strike vs Liverpool. There has been murmurs of Mainoo and Man Utd stuttering over a new contract to keep him at the club.

The equaliser from the academy talent was another brilliant moment in Mainoo’s short career.

    5. Champions League dream lives on

The point of tonight was to get through to the semi-final by all means necessary, though the circumstances were incredulous, Man Utd  made it through.

The first season under INEOS has been dreadful with mistake after mistake off the pitch and on it.

However, Man Utd can still somehow, someway qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

The Lyon game conveyed this isn’t an easy feat, but the manner in which Man Utd came back and won will give them huge confidence heading into a difficult tie vs Athletic Club.

  • United States: Government enforcement action on schools, universities, and international students intensifies

The Trump administration is intensifying its scrutiny of US higher education institutions and international students. As of April 14, reports NAFSA, “there have been almost 1,300 reports of international students and scholars either having their visa revoked and/or their record in SEVIS [the database where international student records are stored] terminated, thereby jeopardizing their legal status in the United States.”

Staff working in international departments of universities and colleges across the country report a sense of helplessness as they receive emails telling them to hand over student records or face dire consequences. They are trading stories on private forums and looking for advice on how to resist and protect students. Inside Higher Ed reported on the trend at the beginning of April:

“One student adviser wrote on the forum that they received a letter from the Department of Homeland Security demanding a number of international students’ records and threatening to revoke the college’s visa certification ‘without any chance of appeal’ if they did not provide the records within five business days. Another said they’d gotten the same letter, but their deadline was just three business days.”

When a SEVIS record is deleted, it means the student cannot work, transfer to another school, leave the US to visit their family, or pursue a post-study work opportunity. It can be setup for a student’s legal status being terminated as if a student whose record has been removed performs an action they had been permitted to do when they had a SEVIS record, they can be detained or deported. What’s more, there are many reported cases of students not even knowing their SEVIS record has been deleted. because the government official who deleted it did not tell the school or the student.

University officials speaking on condition of anonymity to Inside Higher Ed said that students’ SEVIS records were being terminated without their knowledge. Some officials found out only by checking the database routinely or by chance.  “We usually check SEVIS once a semester … we don’t usually have to check statuses because we’re the ones who would change them,” one official said. “Now we are making a point to check thoroughly, every day. It’s the only way to protect our students.”

A retired professor who now focuses on immigration law and student visas said the government’s apparent conclusion that it does not need to notify school officials about SEVIS terminations “makes it difficult for colleges to advise their international students.”

Many of our readers work or have worked in the international offices of universities and colleges and therefore know the devotion international counsellors have to the students they work with. The current situation is not only logistically challenging, but also extremely difficult psychologically for both students and staff.

    So many questions

In the first four months of the Trump presidency, international students have been detained or deported on such grounds as:

    • A past traffic violation;
    • Participation in a pro-Palestine protest;
    • Social media posts;
    • A determination by the secretary of state that their continued presence “would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences”;
    • “Other.”

The ominous “other,” says NAFSA, is accompanied by “a vague reference to a criminal records check ‘and/or’ a visa revocation.”

While the officials who spoke with Inside Higher Ed said that “affected students were almost all Middle Eastern—Turkish, Kuwaiti, Saudi, Iranian—or from majority-Muslim countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Bangladesh,” NAFSA is reporting that no nationality is being spared: “There is no clear pattern or trend in the nationalities of the affected students … students from all regions of the world are being affected.”

    Security undone

Writing in Al Jazeera on 11 April, former US international student and associate professor Somdeep Sen said, “every international student in America today must accept that they may be abducted, detained and deported at any moment for attending a protest, writing an article or expressing a view that upsets the White House or its allies.”

Almost every US college or university that enrols international students (and/or has continued DEI initiatives) is also at risk. So far, billions of dollars of federal funding have been stripped from institutions including Columbia, Princeton, Brown, Cornell, Northwestern, and Harvard – and that is just the start of the list. Their perceived wrongs include not releasing student records, not stopping DEI initiatives, not cutting programmes (e.g., Middle Eastern studies), not terminating positions, and more.

Last week, Harvard provided the strongest resistance to the Trump government’s demands. This week, the US Department of Homeland Security has stripped more funding from Harvard, is planning to revoke Harvard’s tax-free status, and warned that the university will lose its permission to enrol foreign students if it does not share information on some of its students.

Enhancing Defense Ties? France and China’s Training Initiative

    21WIRE

Snipers, handling of portable missiles… Beijing offers to train French soldiers. Keen to rebuild ties with France, Beijing has sent the Ministry of the Armed Forces a list of high-level Chinese military institutions likely to host French officers for training.

Under General de Gaulle’s leadership, France became the first significant Western nation to form diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level with the People’s Republic of China in 1964. In contrast, the United States did not establish diplomatic connections with Beijing until 1979. This new initiative, which will likely displease the White House, arises at a moment when neither France nor the EU can afford to neglect their ties with Beijing.

In light of the tense geopolitical landscape characterised by Trump’s trade disputes and China’s halt of Boeing deliveries, this recent rapprochement represents a welcome shift, as France may seize this opportunity to rejuvenate its military partnership with China.. Intelligence Online has the details….

France: Chinese defence attaché woos French armed forces

Beijing sent the French Armed Forces Ministry a list of high-level Chinese military institutes that may be willing to accept French officers for training, in a bid to help rekindle its ties with France.

The two-page document lists 27 Chinese military institutions which might be willing to train foreign soldiers. No Chinese officers at France’s ‘École de Guerre’

According to our sources, Li Hongfei” data-trigger=”hover” data-placement=”top” data-template=”” data-html=”true” data-container=”body” data-original-title=”Li Hongfei”>Li Hongfei, the defence attaché of the Embassy of China in Paris, reportedly sent that confidential list to the French military command back in December. The 60-year-old general, who arrived in France in 2020 after a posting in Morocco, was making a fresh attempt to convince the French authorities that training their soldiers in China would be to their benefit. Unsurprisingly, France politely declined. Paris has not sent any officers to receive training in Xi Jinping” data-trigger=”focus hover” data-placement=”top” data-template=”” data-html=”true” data-original-title=”Xi Jinping”>Xi Jinping‘s China since the outbreak of the Covid-19″ data-trigger=”focus hover” data-placement=”top” data-template=”” data-html=”true” data-original-title=”Covid-19″>COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, the prestigious French military command academy École de Guerre” data-trigger=”hover” data-placement=”top” data-template=”” data-html=”true” data-container=”body” data-original-title=”École de Guerre”>École de Guerre has not hosted any Chinese officers since 2018. “We felt that China was taking advantage the very high level cursus to glean strategic information”, a French military source told us.

The move from the Chinese defence attaché, an army officer through and through, reflects the increase in efforts from the Chinese embassy’s security staff in recent months. While the Chinese diplomatic and military apparatus has retreated in on itself since the Covid-19 pandemic, several of our sources have observed a recent rise in activity within the security realm. For instance, Li Hongfei, in charge of a team of five Chinese security officials who have presented their credentials to the French authorities, has not shied away from letting the French military command know of his discontent when a French navy frigate passed through the Taiwan Strait, to China’s disliking.

A new superintendent at the Chinese embassy

The Embassy of China, housed in Hôtel Montesquiou on Rue Monsieur in Paris’ upmarket 7th arrondissement, also recently welcomed a new security expert. Deng Li’s predecessor, “fighting wolf” Lu Shaye” data-trigger=”hover” data-placement=”top” data-template=”” data-html=”true” data-container=”body” data-original-title=”Lu Shaye”>Lu Shaye, is now Beijing’s special representative to Europe.

Police cooperation between France and China has been patchy, indeed nearly non-existent, since France granted political asylum in 2019 to the wife of former Interpol” data-trigger=”focus hover” data-placement=”top” data-template=”” data-html=”true” data-original-title=”Interpol”>Interpol president Meng Hongwei” data-trigger=”hover” data-placement=”top” data-template=”” data-html=”true” data-container=”body” data-original-title=”Meng Hongwei”>Meng Hongwei. The former Chinese vice minister of public security had disappeared in 2018 before reappearing and being sentenced to 13 years in prison for corruption in 2020. The two countries will probably try to renew ties during a high-level French-Chinese gathering scheduled to take place in June in Beijing. When contacted, the Chinese embassy in Paris did not wish to comment.

  • Texas man allegedly killed and disemboweled his father, who he claimed was an alien

EL PASO, Texas (TCN) — A 39-year-old man is in custody for allegedly killing his father, disemboweling him, and stealing his car.

On April 12, El Paso Police Department officers went to a home on the 11700 block of Ronald McNair Drive for an unattended death situation and found 74-year-old Victor Gerado Contreras deceased. The Crimes Against Persons Unit arrived at the scene and determined Contreras’ death was suspicious. Following an investigation, they issued a warrant for the arrest of Jaime Contreras.

Officers located Jaime Contreras and arrested him on a charge of murder.

According to court documents cited by KDBC-TV, the victim’s son and suspect’s brother went to the home on April 12 to check on his father because he had not spoken to the victim in about a week. The son reportedly could not get in the front or back door, so he went to his dad’s bedroom window and smelled rotting flesh. The son entered the home through the window and reportedly discovered Victor Contreras with his “head bashed in,” throat slit, and covered with a sheet. The son also realized Victor Contreras’ Jeep Wrangler wasn’t at the house.

The son reportedly texted Jaime Contreras about the situation, but he never responded.

The son’s wife spoke with Victor Contreras twice on April 4, and in the first call, he allegedly told her Jaime Contreras was “acting crazy again.” Jaime Contreras, who lived with his father, reportedly took the phone and told her that he was angry that Victor Contreras wanted to sell the house. Victor Contreras called the police, then later informed his daughter-in-law that everything was “fine.”

A neighbor told police that he saw Jaime Contreras driving his father’s Jeep, parking it nearby, and going to his house for several hours at a time.

Police executed a search warrant for the house and discovered apparent blood throughout. Investigators found Jaime Contreras and the Jeep nearby, and when they asked where Victor Contreras was, he said he was “in heaven.”

Investigators reportedly saw injuries and lacerations on Jaime Contreras’ body. Contreras allegedly told them he hurt himself “battling,” and fighting. KDBC reports he claimed an alien recently harvested his organs.

KTSM-TV reports police previously responded to calls at Victor and Jaime Contreras’ home. In 2023, Jaime Contreras allegedly said his father was an alien, then walked around the surrounding streets with a decapitated rabbit. Several months later, officers went to the house because Jaime Contreras again said his dad was an alien.

On April 5, Victor Contreras reportedly called El Paso Police saying Jaime Contreras was “threatening him and killed his pets.” Police went to the home and listed it as “checking OK.” Hours later, Victor Contreras called police a second time and claimed Jaime Contreras threatened him with a hammer.

The medical examiner who went to the home when Victor Contreras was found dead noted that the 74-year-old was “disemboweled.”

Jaime Contreras is in custody at the El Paso County Jail with bond set at $2 million.
