  • NEWS: 78 Boko Haram Members Killed In Military Onslaught

    By Dickson Blessing
Seventy eight Boko Haram members were killed on Thursday in a two hour shoot  out with the military in Biu Borno state as they tried to capture their military base.
During the wee hours of the morning, hundreds of terrorist had invaded a military with the intention of carting a way with weapons in order to expand their military base.
Some Chaldians were either captured or killed during the shoot out. Two aircraft guns were also recovered from them.
Military sources disclosed yesterday afternoon that no fewer than 78 bodies have been recovered.
Defence spokesman major General Chris Olukolade noted that the military was more concerned on the success of operations than the figures of terrorist killed in the operations.
    He also added that
“What is important now is for us to consolidate on the victory, recapture areas where the terrorists are presently operating and restore peace to the entire north east.”
It was learned that residents has trooped to the scene to see the dead men and their bullet-driven vans.
  • PERSPECTIVES: Praying Nations Vs. Playing Nations! Should We Pray To Win or Play To Win?

    By Shutdown Brown

In the game of life, there are 3 types of countries
in the world: 1. The Praying Nations (PrN); 2. The Playing Nations (PlN); and
    3. The Praying-Playing Nations (PPN).
To which group do you think Nigeria belongs? Just
wait a while; let us list the features of these groups.
Members of the praying nations are countries
where religious zealotry and intolerance run high. The citizens hide their
laziness and cowardice under religion. They do little or nothing and leave
everything to God to do. Consequently, corruption, killings, maladministration
and poverty run high in these countries.
On the other hand, the playing nations are the
countries that believe strongly in the efficacy of hard work. They play hard,
and pay little or no attention to religion.
The third group, which is the praying-playing
nations, believes that hard work achieves better result when combined with
prayers. The countries in this group believe that man should do his best and
then allow the unseen hand to come in where the wisdom or strength of man
    cannot reach.
If we wish to expatiate on the features of these
three groups, we can say that the praying nations are self-righteous, bigoted
and intolerant of other faiths. They are blinded by religion, crippled by
religion, and enslaved by religion. Once religion is mentioned, their sense of
reasoning goes on leave. They fight for their deity, kill for him and destroy
property in his name. Even among those of them that are not violent, religious
discrimination against those who don’t share the same religion or denomination
is high. A good candidate can easily be voted against just because of his
religion or denomination even within the same faith. A less qualified candidate
can be employed instead of a more qualified candidate purely because of the
    candidate’s religion or denomination.
They see their religious leaders as gods that can
never go wrong. Nobody dares to criticise or question any act of the religious
leaders. They therefore hero-worship them. Whatever their religious leaders
tell them to do is done without questioning.
Praying nations are very religious but usually
ungodly. Bribery and corruption is rife in such countries. Service to humanity
is almost non-existent. Citizens focus on taking care of themselves and their
immediate family, which therefore leads to embezzlement of public funds as well
    as crimes of all sorts.
Superstition is rife in such countries.
Everything has a spiritual interpretation. If a man is not successful in his
life endeavours, he visits a religious leader, who immediately attributes it to
a witch or wizard in the family, and goes on to prescribe a special deliverance
session and some sacrifices. Depending on the type of the religious inclination
of the religious leader, he may even recommend human sacrifice that will
transform the man into a wealthy man. If one’s children are wayward or
drug-addicted, it is attributed to witchcraft. If a woman cannot conceive or
she has a child with Down syndrome or dyslexia, it is attributed to a
    demonic attack.
Citizens of these nations are lazy-minded. They
have an unusual belief in miracle and magic, depending on the type of religion
they profess. Based on religious conditioning, most people walk around believing
that they can go to bed jobless and wake up as one of the richest people in the
country, with many mansions across the globe, exotic cars and private jets, and
companies in many countries of the world. Anybody who tries to reason with such
people is accused of confessing negatively or having a poor mentality. Students
spend all day browsing, chatting and pinging and yet pray to break exam
records. People stay in their homes, complaining about the state of affairs in
the country and believing that soon, the Almighty will send angelic warriors to
destroy the leaders and make their country the dream land.
In spite of the high prayers and religiosity in
the praying nations, they are among the poorest of the world. They are mainly
Third-World countries that struggle with poverty and diseases. And it is not
because their countries are not blessed with natural and human resources. It is
just that there is so much ungodliness and greed in their land, which keep both
the leaders and the led on a race to strip the nation of all its wealth. Some
individuals may be super-rich but the country is poor and unsuccessful. The
more the people pray, the poorer they become. The more religious they get, the
more trouble in their land. This is because their claim to religious piety is
    fake.
However, the playing nations are different. They
are nations that believe purely on working. They believe that religion is the
opium of the masses. They believe that God does not exist, and that man has the
capacity to achieve whatever he desires. They even make it a law that religion
should not be practised within their nations. They dictate what human beings
should think and believe in. This reduces the creativity of the people and
makes them feel caged and controlled.
These countries also struggle but they are better
than the praying nations, because the citizens are hardworking and productive,
which makes the nation have some form of progress.
Some members of the playing nations recently
realised the futility in suppressing people’s right to pursue their religious
beliefs. They therefore relaxed their hold on religion and enterprise. This led
to a boom in their growth and development.
In contrast to the two groups, the
praying-playing nations are balanced. These are nations that combine religion
with hard work and creativity. Citizens of these nations experience religious
freedom and other forms of freedom. Religion is made a personal issue. People
are first treated as human beings with dignity before anything else. Religious
discrimination, religious oppression or religious violence is rarely heard of.
People in these nations don’t relinquish their
duties and responsibilities to God on the pretext of religiosity. They commit
themselves to working to develop themselves individually as well as build a
peaceful, free, rich and progressive nation. They are less corrupt, more
honest, more caring and more human-focused. They serve God and their fellow men
with honesty. Even those among them who don’t believe in God are
    straight-forwarding and not victimised.
These nations prepare adequately for emergencies
like natural disasters and epidemics but pray for deliverance. They don’t leave
    anything to chance.
Consequently, their nations are exemplary, rich,
and developed. They are high on all human development indices like life
expectancy, literacy, standards of living, and quality of life, and low on
issues like infant mortality, maternal mortality, etc. Because of high
development and freedom from religious persecution in these nations, citizens of
the praying nations and playing nations flock to these countries. Ironically,
once in a while, some citizens, especially from the praying nations, who have
been welcomed into the praying-playing nations, end up polluting these nations
with their religious intolerance, religious violence and religious
exploitation. But they always arrest and deal with such people.
In summary, in the game of life, countries who
merely pray to win always fail; countries who only play to win sometimes
succeed; but countries who pray and play to win always succeed.
So to which group does Nigeria belong? Well, it
is left for you to answer.

  • POEM: Forget Your Sorrows

    Please my Dear
    Do not shed a tear
For as the night comes and goes
    So will your sorrows
People say it is hard to forget,
Yet it is easy to overcome
For joy comes in the morning
    After dark periods of mourning
So my dear, do not cry
It is only an advice to try
    For sorrows is one thing
     I

  • HEALTH: How To Prevent Heart Disease.

    By Lizzy Adie

Heart failure, also known as congestive hearth failure is a common condition that develops after the heart becomes damaged or weaken by disease of the heart including hearth attacks and other medical conditions. Heart failure  occurs when the pumping action of your heart is not strong enough to move blood around. Especially during increased activity or under stress. Also, the heart muscle may not relax properly to accommodate the flow of blood back from the lungs to the heart.

Heart failure is on the rise as more people survive heart attacks and other acute heart conditions. Heart failure is a serious condition, there is no cure. However, with lifestyle changes and treatment options, you can manage your condition very well.  Many patients can return to a full and normal life.  Learning about your heart failure is an important first step in managing your condition.
      Symptoms Of Heart Failure
When your heart doesn’t pump well and congestion occurs, you may experience some of these symptoms, contact your doctor or health care provider if any of the following occurs.

     * Increased shortness of breath, expecially when lying flat.
     * Bloating or feeling full at all times.
     * Cough or cold symptoms that last for  longer than a week.
     * Tiredness, loss of  energy or extreme Tiredness.
     * Loss of appetite.
     * lncrease urination at night.
     * Excessive use of alcohol or drugs.

If these symptoms are mild, it is advisable to see your family doctor or call your heart failure clinic.

    Causes Of Heart Failure
The common damage to the heart is heart attack (myocardial infarction) which attack the heart muscle and this occurs when one of the coronary arteries that supply blood and oxygen to the heart muscle becomes blocked. If  this happens, part of your heart may be  starved of oxygen and may become permanently damage.

Another most common cause of heart failure is high blood pressure (hypertension) if undiagnosed and not treated for a long time, it can lead to heart failure. It is important to get your blood pressure checked at least once every year or more if your doctor recommend you to do so.

    Treatment For Heart Failure

Your doctor and heart care provider may recommend medication or surgery and may suggest life style changes such as healthy eating and physical activity. Which may include a recommendation to consume at least 1gram of Omega 3 daily.

Steps You Need To Help Manage Your Heart Failure.
Take your medication regularly as instructed by your doctor.
Eat a healthy diet such as plenty of vegetables,  fruits, whole grains, low fat meats and low fat milk.
Reduce your intake of salt consumption expecially if you have been  diagnosed with hypertension.
Drink no more than 2 litres of fluid per day and this includes your beverage    I.e coffee, water, juice, tea, and milk. Half of your daily fluid intake should be water.

Reduce your alcohol intake to not more than one bottle per day. In some cases, alcohol must be totally avoided as these can interfere with your medications or increase blood pressure and affect the heart. It is important you speak with your doctor about this issue.

Avoid  smoking as this greatly increase the risk for heart attack and  even worsen heart failure.
Weigh your self daily in the morning and keep a written record of your weight.
Get plenty of sleep and manage your stress levels.
It is recommended that patients with heart failure have their flu shot once a year and pneumococcal vaccine once in their lifetime.

  • NEWS: NYSC Postpone Mobilisation Exercise

    By Dickson Blessing
The management of the National Youth Service Corps in Nigeria (NYSC) had announced to prospective corp members and the entire public that mobilization exercise this year would only be in two batches , a batch A and B.
The 2015 orientation exercise had been shifted from May 5th to the 26th of May.

Mrs Rose Aderibigbe had said that part of the reason for the postponement of the mobilization was due to the forth coming general election.
“You know our corps members are participating in the elections. February 21 is when elections will be rounding off and Batch A, that is supposed to pass out, will still be in service to continue with the elections”, she said.
She had also denied the rumour that it was due to the fears of a repetition of the post election violence that took place in 2011.
All prospective corp members are hereby advised to check the 2015 batch A mobilization time- table.
  • INSPIRATIONAL: Strategy For Success

    STRATEGY FOR SUCCESS
Success can be defined as the ultimate goal of Man’s efforts in life,
but it is not easy to achieve when your goal is to be successful, then your
hope must not be in man. You remain the only one to make your life a success or
failure. However, if you have decided to make your life successful, then the
following steps are crucial in your life:

GOD : He is the Almighty, the author and finisher of everything. When
you have him in your life, every other thing needed for your everlasting success
    will fall in place.

WISDOM : You require Gods granted wisdom to sustain what you have and
improve further. Pray for wisdom always.

PLANNING : The quality of your preparation determines the quality of
the success you will achieve. J.J Thompson affirmed this when he argued that
“he who fails to plan, definitely plans to fail”.

HARD WORK : Hard work remains the engine that moves every plan
forward. The old adage says – Work and pray.

ENDURANCE : Endurance is very essential in every human efforts. Do not
be too anxious to make money. Anxiety for wealth may lead to sin.It was on the
foregoing that Dr Paul Eneche spoke regrettably informing that ‘ The crave for
money has dug the grave of many’. You should therefore, Let money remain a
servant in your life and not a god.

COURAGE : You should be courageous as only courageous people achieve
success. Success shall be your portion in Jesus name, Amen.

    By Amaobi nelson Osuala

    LEADERSHIP
    7
    WAYS TO GAIN INFLUENCE
    Ø CLEAR VISIONpeople will
follow you only if they know where you’re going. People follow a leader who
    gives clear direction.
    Ø CREDIBILITY Live by what
you teach. Keep your promises and be trustworthy.
    Ø CONFIDENCEpeople want
to follow a leader who has confidence.
    Ø CHARACTER
Dwight.L.Moody said “character is what you do in the dark. Don’t be tempted to
meet legitimate needs in illegitimate ways”.
    Ø COURAGE Leaders will
be tested. You can count on obstacles in your pathways as you lead from where
you are to where you need to go.
    Ø COMMITMENTIf you are
to succeed as a leader, you must be more committed than anyone else.
    Ø CARE Everyone
wants to know. Does the leader care about me? Showing your love is as simple as
spending time to build one-on-one relationship with them.

  • POLITICS: From Jonathan to 'Anything But Jonathan'?

    By Efio-Ita Nyok
Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo was Nigeria’s
president beginning from 1999 to 2007. That is to say, his administration
initiated the Nigeria’s fourth republic. He had served as Nigeria’s military
head of state from 13 February 1976 to 1 October 1979. The acronym ‘OBJ’ is the
shortened form of his surname Obasanjo. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is
shortened GEJ is Nigerias incumbent president; while Maj. Gen.
Muhammaddu Buhari acronimised to GMB has been Nigerias military
ruler from  31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985. Ours is an
    era of acronimised identities.
On Tuesday 13 January 2015, Sahara Reporters has it that
Obasanjo declared openly his refusal to support President’s Goodluck Jonathan’s
reelection bids in the general elections of 2015; a trend that is captured in
the phrase: ‘anything but Jonathan'(ABJ). He proceeded to demonstrate this by
meeting with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC),
namely, Maj. Gen. Muhammaddu Buhari shortly after meeting with Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan nee GEJ. This was not after OBJ is reported to have written a personal
letter to Buhari to straighten their hitherto strained relationship. It should
be added that GEJ’s meeting with OBJ yesterday, where he apologised to OBJ, was
in the company of two respected Christian leaders, namely, the General
Overseers of Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG) and Living Faith Ministries
aka Winner’s Chapel, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and Bishop Oyedepo; But OBJ still
    rejected the apology from GEJ.
From the foregone, it would be
obvious that OBJ being a statesman in Nigeria has considerable influence to
determine to a large extent, the who for what office in Nigeria. He has
demonstrated this in time past, this may be why leaders of both the PDP and APC
resort to him for endorsement. His moral support for a candidate wields
profound influence towards the anticipated emergence of such a candidate at the
    polls.
    However, while the former
president has the right to affiliate with whatsoever political candidate in the
forthcoming elections, I am still compelled to critically assess his trending
    cliché, ‘Anything but
Jonathan’ acronimised as ABJ. It suffices in the main to submit that OBJ no
longer support GEJ; neither has he said openly that he support GMB but rather
ABJ. It is the drift from GEJ to ABJ not necessarily GMB that incites my
    putting on a thinking cap.
What does OBJ mean by ABJ seeing
that he, a few hours after meeting with GEJ, was seen to be meeting with GMB
and declaring that he support the best candidate irrespective of party
affiliations? Taken with a pinch of salt, the phrase ‘Anything but Jonathan’ is
referring to Buhari. Is Buhari, that is, GMB the ABJ Obasanjo is referring to?
If the response is in the affirmative, then it is obvious that Obasanjo may not
    mean well for this country.
You will agree with me that one
uses the word ‘Anything’ when one does not have a specific choice, especially
if one is disappointed with the choice one would have naturally opted for. Put
differently, supposing Obasanjo(OBJ) were to be asked, as it were: Between
Jonathan(GEJ) and Buhari(GMB), who do you think should be Nigeria’s president?
Who do you think, between these two, is best suited for the job? OBJ then
responds: ‘anything but Jonathan'(ABJ). Obasanjo was given two options to make
a choice but ends up making no choice at all! That is the implication of that
    trending phrase.
    President Goodluck Jonathan and
Major General Muhammaddu Buhari are not presidential choices for Nigeria, at least
in Olusegun Obasanjo’s thinking. If Obasanjo is not a fool or dishonest, then
that disposition should be taken seriously. It brings to mind the seminal  submission of late Chinua Achebe, who in his
The Trouble with Nigeria(1984), observed that ‘The trouble with Nigeria is
simply and squarely the failure of leadership…the unwillingness or inability
of its leaders to rise to the responsibility, to the challenge of personal
example which are the hallmarks of true leadership’. This is the palava with Nigeria!
In Obasanjo’s ABJ I also see that
even in himself, that is Obasanjo, there is no option. Obasanjo is not a
leadership option for Nigeria, not because having spent two tenures in office,
the constitution bars him from contesting, but because when he was given the
opportunity, he could be said to have done worst than Jonathan. Even Buhari
cannot  be absolved from this weekness no
matter how the APC paints him a saint. He is far from that saintly class. And
permit me  to submit that we should
expect the worst from either a President Goodluck Jonathan’s or President
Muhammaddu Buhari’s administration, depending on who wins.
    Anything but Jonathan, excludes
both Jonathan and Buhari from Aso Rock. If not these two evils, then who!?
Nigeria is in need for true leadership. Truly, Jonathan was right when he
disclosed last week that his generation has failed this country.
    #Anything _is _nothing
