  • ENTERTAINMENT: Nigerian Breweries To Sack Genevieve For #AMVCA2015 Blunder?

We are hearing that Nigerian Breweries PLC may be considering sacking Nollywood superstar Genevieve Nnaji for her blunder at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, which held last Saturday at the Expo Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites Lagos.

During the presentation of an award with the Managing Director of the brewery behemoth, the star actress made an utterance that absolutely contradicts the brand identity of one of NB’s major products, Amstel Malta. The blunder is considered unforgivable as Genevieve is an official Amstel Malta ambassador and, along with fellow Amstel ambassador and Nigerian football star Mikel Obi, the faces of the non-alcoholic beverage.

While the actress was announcing the company’s package for the winner of the Best Actor (Drama) award, which included 6 months worth of free Amstel Malta, Genevieve concluded by saying: “Get fat!” The problem with that is that Amstel Malta announces itself as a low sugar malt beverage which is positioned as a healthy alternative to other malt drinks that have more sugar in them. So, Amstel Malta should not make you fat.

Though unconfirmed, we are hearing that the Nigerian Breweries management are worried that with her popularity and status, Genevieve’s blunder may affect the company’s recent overall strategic move towards healthier beverages, with the launch of Star-Lite last year and the recent launch of ACE, which is a herbal roots-blend that promotes a healthier lifestyle of fun and enjoyment.

  • NEWS: Patience Jonathan stops Aisha Buhari from using Edo Stadium

Patience Jonathan, wife of the president has got the nod to use Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium by the Edo State Government despite applying for the stadium after Aisha Buahri, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate did same.

For avoidance of trouble, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo pleaded with Mrs Buhari to allow Patience Jonathan use the stadium in a bid to allow peace reign in the state.

In a statement signed by Louis Odion, Commissioner of Information and Orientation, he said: “The mix-up in the use of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Saturday, March 14, 2015 was occasioned by the laxity on the part of the officials of the Ministry of Sports who, without reference to their supervisors, proceeded to collect money and issue receipt only yesterday (Tuesday) to the PDP for use of the stadium knowing full well that the APC had, last week, applied for and got approval for use of same facility same day.

“In fact, jingles were already running on local television and radio stations announcing that the wife of APC’s presidential candidate, Hajia Aisha Buhari, would be in Benin on Saturday, March 14, 2015 to deliver the message of change to Edo women.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state that being the owner of the said facility, Edo State Government reserves the right to insist that the party that got approval first be allowed use of the stadium. In the circumstance, we imagine the idle denizens of Edo PDP must by now be salivating at the prospects of having an opportunity to unleash mayhem on peace-loving people of Edo State with the excuse that money was collected from them.

“But as civilized people, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has directed that Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the First Lady, be granted use of the stadium on Saturday, while Hajia Aisha Buhari, wife of the APC presidential candidate will have her turn on another day,” the statement read.

  • ENTERTAINMENT: Ice Prince is set to launch his own record label

ce Prince, who started his music career and has achieved major success with Chocolate City, will be revealing his own label soon.

Choc City Boss, Audu Maikori speaking on the label said:

‘We are very happy with it, there’s no friction between both labels. Ice Prince also has Super Cool Cats, which is his new imprint and it’s coming out soon, one of the things Choc City set out to do is to be the mother body and create that platform for others to grow and we have encouraged that actively by supporting their projects.’

Ice had first made mention of Super Cool Cats music in an April 2014 interview with MTV UK.

There’s videos coming out from the ‘FOZ’ album, that’s what we’re on right now – we’ve put out ‘I Swear’ and ‘Jambo’ already out. We’re putting out ‘Whiskey’ and ‘Mercy’. I’ve got a mixtape called ‘Ice Prince and Friends’ dropping sometime this year. Apart from the music there is the ‘Zamani Foundation’ – a big project that I’m trying to push as well. Those are some of the things I’m up to right now.

There’s Super Cool Cats music, my new outfit, and I have a few artists that I want to introduce to the world. There’s a girl called Ruth and a guy called Stunt. They’re all super cool cats. And there are a lot of producers in that outfit as well.

  • SPORTS: Mourinho takes swipe at 'aggressive' PSG

Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie by claiming the French champions are the “most aggressive” team Chelsea have faced this season.

Laurent Blanc's side travel to west London with the tie finely poised after a 1-1 draw in Paris in mid-February.

Mourinho was unhappy with the treatment dished out to Eden Hazard at Parc des Princes, with the Belgium international being fouled a record nine times throughout the game – though the referee issued just two yellow cards to PSG players during the clash.

“The most agressive team we've played this season is Paris Saint-Germain,” the Chelsea boss told reporters on Wednesday.

“I have to be fair, I thought an English team would never be surprised by aggressive play because we have it in our country.

“We've played against sides from the Championship in the Cup, against teams from League One and Shrewsbury [Town] from League Two, but the most aggressive team was PSG.

“For me, that was a real surprise. With players of such quality, I was expecting more football and less aggression.”

Mourinho also criticised the assertion that PSG dominated the opening leg, claiming that they “dominated in everything except the result”.

“It depends on your concept of football. If dominate is the number of chances, yes, Paris had more chances,” he said. “If dominate is to make foul after foul. Or to move the ball without progression.
