NEWS : Balogun Market In Lagos On Fire Again
Nelson Amaobi Osuala 2 April 2015, 9:14amAs Nigerians are still trying to reminiscese on the outcome of the presidential elections last saturday which seems to have left many in what looks like a mixed feeling as some are seen in joyous expression of victory for the emergence of Gen. Buhari as winner over the incumbent president of Nigeria in the person of Dr. Goodluck Ebele jonathan, A heavy bombshell fell that terminated the mood of traders in balogun market located in lagos island as they were visited with the CHANGE which they never would wish even their worse enemy. These settlers and traders were seen helpless and in tears as they resumed the day’s activity to meet their stores and shops burnt beyond recognition and in a total reck. Having lost their wares in the angry inferno, they were left in total dismay feeling nonplussed of what next to do.It was just Barely two months ago, the same fire visited this market without a notice, destroying properties worth a good chunk of money ranging in millions. With this kind of thing happening, one wonders whether the said Market has been bewitched with evil occurrences? An Eye witness reported that this incident has gradually become what seems like a daily experience by traders and hence something that need a critical and urgent redress.Further investigation had It that the fire was as a result of high unregulated voltage supply and also the unchecked appliances which are always carelessly left running even after the days work and closure of shops. This continuous fire outbreak in Lagos island has become a worry that hunts lagosians like a nightmare and It is to this reason that we enjoin shop owners and her unions to put in adequate measures to avoid future occurrence of this negative mishap as this incessant fire outbreaks is without doubt not the kind of CHANGE we are clamouring for, especially in this period in which our country is experiencing a political transition from a POWER signifying PDP to a CHANGE depicting APC. -

By William Oyo-Ita
A baby girl born on March 26th with a facial deformity is being worshiped in India like a god. Villagers near Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh in India, have flocked to see the ‘divine’ girl with the deformity resembling an elephant’s trunk in the belief she is an incarnation of the elephant-headed god Ganesha.
According to Asian News, doctors told the villagers the girl’s condition may well be a genetic mutation. The newborn’s aunt, named as Rajani, told the news agency: “My sister-in-law gave birth to a girl and her face looks exactly like Lord Ganesha. Everybody is saying she is an incarnation of the god. This is why whoever hears about her is coming here to get a glimpse of the baby and are making whatever offerings possible.”
Asian News reports that doctors said they will examine the girl to find out the extent of her condition and whether they need to operate. Doctors said the condition could be a genetic mutation triggered by malnutrition and increased pollution. -

NEWS: Buhari Promises To Crush Boko Haram In Two Months
By Dickson Blessing
2/4/2015, 9:18amThe president elect of Nigeria Gen Muhammadu Buhari(Rtd) has reassured Nigerians that his adminstration would tackle Boko Haram in the north eastern part of Nigeria within two months of resuming office.
He said this in an interview with Christiane Amanpour of CNN on Wednesday 1st of April 2015.
He said the federal government made some mistakes in tackling Boko Haram insurgency and promised his administration will solve the problem. He explained;
“we know how they started and where they are now and we will rapidly give attention to security in the country. And I believe we will effectively deal with them in two months when we get into office.”He stressed on the need of the neighbouring countries to join forces in fighting the militants. “We will be needing the cooperation of neighbouring countries such as Cameroon, Chad and Niger. There were efforts made by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, but it was not good enough and it came rather late,” he said.
Buhari pointed out that the past adminstration did not make good use of the military. “We expected the Federal Government four years ago to sit down with these countries and make sure they do not allow the terrorists free movement across borders, training facilities and movement of weapons.
“These were only done a few months ago and we have seen how Cameroon, Chad and Niger are fighting Boko Haram more than Nigeria is doing until recently. Really we have seen enough and we have enough law enforcement to face Boko Haram squarely.”
The president- elect assured that his administration will perform differently, he also blamed the poor performance on corruption in the military.
“They will…if you recall, the Nigerian soldiers out of all ethical expectations were granting interviews to foreign journalists, saying they were being sent to fight terrorists without proper weapons
“And then the National Assembly attempted to conduct a hearing to find out how much money was approved for training and weapon in the last three years but that hearing was scuttled by the administration.”

POLITICS: Will Buhari Crush Boko Haram in 2 Months After Assuming Office As President?
By Efio-Ita Nyok |2 April 2015 |8:27am
In an interview with CNN's Senior International Correspondent, Christiane Amanpour, monitored in Lagos on 1 April 2015, Nigeria's President-elect, Mohammadu Buhari, made the following phrase in response to dealing with the insurgency in the Northeast of the country:
'And I believe we will effectively deal with them in two months when we get into office'.By 'them', Buhari was referring to the Boko Haram insurgents whose activities are estimated to have taken the lives of over N20,000 Nigerians.
Another question is what does the President-elect means when he assert that he would effectively deal with the insurgency in two months? Does he mean by this that his administration will defeat the insurgents in two months? This may be the immediate meaning the President-elect intends to send across. And if this is true, I am afraid to say that the president may be wrong. I do not intend to appear cynical or overtly critical of an administration that is tet to be sworn into power. But, it is imperative to begin to address the statements of anticipated public office holders in view of certain realities.
By the insurgents, namely Boko Haram, should we to refer to Abubakar Shekau and his disciples of evil, or refer to the wicked and criminal ideology of carnage to human lives, properties and general destabilisation of the peace which they embody?
If the president-elect refers to the former then he may as well 'effectively deal with them(Boko Haram) in two months…' after assuming office as president especially when his administration enjoys the diplomatic support of her neighbours, to wit, Chad, Niger and Cameroon. But if we refer to the later, namely, what ideology the sect represent then two months into office is far from actualising such a vision.
The lives, properties, and destruction the Boko Haram sect has effected cannot and will never be 'effectively addressed in two months'. No human administration can bring back to live the lives of N20,000 Nigerians taken in a most wicked way! They may repurchase the personal effects already lost to these criminals, and even resettle them, but they cannot reverse the pains, maimings, tears, disappointments, disillusionments, etc that have been forced on recipients of their wickedness.
The quality of our critical infrastructures in the northeast has been totally depleted and profoundly compromised. Our educational, health and security infrastructures, etc are in a sorry state. Are these what Buhari intends to effectively address in two months into office? I doubt and I think you share in my doubt.
The incoming government should not only think of a military solution to the insurgency, they should also consider a political solution. Again, they should not only contemplate a short term solution to the security challenge but they should reflect on a long term solution as well. They should rather think of how best to effectively address the repair of our critical infrastructures.
Two months into office, supposes an intention to address Boko Haram from a purely military perspective. We should swerve from thinking of Boko Haram as being basically comprising Shekau and his army, to perceiving them to mean the indented ideology they embody. The extent to which any administration can frustrate the resurrection of the insurgency in the northeast will suggest how 'effectively' it has been able to 'deal with' them. A military, political, short and long term solution will suffice. 'Two months into office…' may be a miscalculation.
God grant Mr. President wisdom. God bless this Nigeria!

NEWS: Read Obasanjo Letter To Gen. Buhari
By William Oyo-Ita 1 April 2015 10;49pm
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has written the President elect, Gen Buhari a letter. In the letter, Chief Obasanjo charged Gen. Buhari to embark on reforming all of Nigeria’s national institutions, particularly the military. The full text of the letter below…
I hasten to congratulate you on your success and victory in the Presidential Elections of March 28, 2015. Your success and victory after three previous unsuccessful attempts must be great object lessons for you and for all politicians, particularly in Nigeria. For me, the totality of 2015 elections hold many lessons for our democracy and democratisation process, which are both maturing. On this occasion, the system has been unnecessarily overheated before and particularly during the campaigns when emphasis was more on trivialities and hate, divisive, undignifying and disrespectful statements and comments rather than on pressing issues requiring attention.
I know that in victory, you will be magnanimous to start binding the wounds and bitterness occasioned by the campaign and the evil disciples.
With so much harm already done to many national institutions including the military, which proudly nurtured you and me, you will have a lot to do on institution reform, education, healthcare, economy, security, infrastructure, power, youth employment, agribusiness, oil and gas, external affairs, cohesiveness of our nation and ridding our land of corruption.
Your varied and wide experience will undoubtedly stand you in good stead. I am also sure that there are men and women of goodwill, character and virtue across the board that you can mobilise to join hands with you in the reform, repairs and redirection that will be imperative to put Nigeria back on the fast lane of good governance, unity, cohesiveness, development and progress.
Once again, I felicitate with you and wish you well
