  • IN VIEW: 'I am one of the luckiest Nigerians' – President Jonathan

President Jonathan says he is one of the luckiest Nigerians alive, that he is yet to see any Nigerian who is as lucky as himself. He said this while receiving residents of the federal capital territory (FCT), led by Namadi Sambo, in Aso Rock today April 5th.

“I am one of the luckiest Nigerians. I am yet to see somebody luckier than me. From 1999, I was in the hands of government for 16 years. Not just in government as a parliamentarian because if you are a senator or House of Representatives member, you take care of yourself, you live in your own house. I was in a cage, being taken care of by the government for 16 good years. I think it is enough and I am happy. Help me to thank God for that and I will continue to thank Nigerians for giving me that privilege. Wherever I will be, I will remain grateful to this great country.”

  • NEWS: President Jonathan's 2015 Easter Message To The Nation

    By William Oyo-Ita 4 April 2015

    Fellow citizens,
I greet you all, especially our Christian brothers and sisters,  as we celebrate Easter in commemoration of  the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
For Christians all over the world, the major lessons of Easter, which we celebrate this year in the midst of general elections in our nation, are to be found in the Messiah’s Divine love and glorious self-sacrifice for the redemption of mankind.

This year’s celebration of Easter is taking place at a period of very critical national choices and decisions, during which we must all be prepared and willing to make sacrifices for greater unity, peace, political stability and progress in our beloved country.
We must therefore seize the opportunity of the Easter holiday to reflect deeply on what more we need to do as a people, to ensure that the political process in which we are currently engaged is successfully concluded and that our beloved country, Nigeria continues to move towards a better future for all of its citizens.
Happily, we have already successfully scaled the hurdle of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.  I am quite hopeful that the Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections will also be conducted peacefully.
To the glory and pride of our fatherland, our collective actions since March 28 have assured the world that the democratic spirit is alive and well in our nation.
By the grace of God, our beloved nation, Nigeria is moving forward despite all challenges.
Let us all pray this Easter, that God Almighty who has brought us this far, will continue to bless our nation as we  march onward towards the fulfillment of our collective vision of a truly united, strong and prosperous nation.

I wish you all very happy Easter celebrations.

    Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR
    President,
    Federal Republic of Nigeria

  • NEWS: Gov Amaechi Apologise And Pleads For Peace During Guber Election

    By Dickson Blessing
    8:35am, 4/4/2015

Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi yesterday in a press briefing pleaded forgiveness from those he had offended with his actions or inactions in the state.

Amaechi at the press briefing on politically motivated violence and deaths in Rivers State entreated everyone to shun violence during the upcoming election in the state.

“As we prepare for that election, we have a little time to reflect on the issues at stake. It must be about Rivers state. It must be about its progress and the prosperity of all who live here and are from here.
“It must be about development, good governance, peace and security. We need to stand firm as a people for what we believe in.
“When that day breaks, I encourage you all to come out with your Permanent Voters Cards, walk to the polling station to get accredited.

“Even if it rains, stand to be counted. This election is about your life, your safety, the wellbeing of your loved ones, your business, and the future of your children, and ultimately, our great state.
“Let it be said of you in the future that you stood up to be counted. Deep down inside everyone of us, we want a peaceful, transparent, credible and violence-free election.”

As long as you remain peaceful and law abiding people, the state will ensure that its security personnel act professionally, in keeping you safe because they and their families also have a stake in a peaceful election. Certainly, afflictions shall not rise a second time.

Again, I call on the youth to resolve not to be instruments in the hands of politicians who don’t wish our people well. Those who divide and pitch us against ourselves are not of us; they are not our friends, they are our enemies and we must avoid them.
