  • NAF raids terrorists’ enclaves in Borno

The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on Tuesday executed two successful air missions targeting terrorist strongholds in Borno State.

The Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

Ejodame said the first strike occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. in Kollaram, a known stronghold of insurgents in Borno.

He said: “Intelligence reports, supported by surveillance footage, confirmed the presence of high-value terrorist commanders in the area.

“Several structures, some equipped with solar panels, were identified as active terrorist hubs.

“NAF’s assets carried out a precision strike on the location, eliminating several fighters and disabling key infrastructure.

The spokesman said a second precision strike followed at about 3:55 p.m. in Arra, in the Sambisa area, adding that intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance missions had earlier detected clusters of terrorists, and real-time visuals confirmed the significant presence.

“The precision-guided munitions were employed, resulting in the effective destruction of targets and disruption of the group’s operational capabilities.

“These back-to-back missions are part of a sustained air campaign designed to erode terrorist capabilities, dismantle leadership structures, and eliminate sanctuaries across Nigeria.

“The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to ensuring that no location within the country offers safe haven to terrorists,” Ejodame stated.

  • Father ‘nearly decapitated’ by hatchet-wielding man

A 32-year-old father of two was “nearly decapitated in front of his wife” earlier this month by a “hatchet-wielding menace” in Tucson, Arizona.

A GiveSendGo fundraiser page states, “A father of two was nearly decapitated in front of his wife and left in critical condition by a hatchet-wielding menace as the couple were in the middle of a cross-country trip home — one year after their son’s death. Jacob Couch, 32, was sitting on a bus stop bench with his wife, Kristen, in Tucson, Arizona when 25-year-old Daniel Michael confronted the pair and attacked them unprovoked. He is fighting for his life.”

According to Pima County court documents obtained by 13 News, the incident took place on April 25. The court documents indicate that Couch sustained a major wound to the back of his neck after being struck with a hatchet.

“Seeing your husband get almost decapitated and being the only one to help like it’s, hard,” Kristen Couch, the victim’s wife, told 13 News. Luke Couch, Jacob Couch’s brother, told the outlet, “He’s not expected to make it right now. We’ve just been taking it how we can.”

According to a GoFundMe page launched by the 32-year-old victim’s family, Jacob Couch remains in “critical condition” in the ICU at Banner University Medical Center, which is located in Tucson.

Erica Sims, the victim’s sister-in-law, said, “The injury cut the artery in the back of his neck in half it went so deep that it hit his skull.”

According to 13 News, law enforcement officials were able to use surveillance cameras to identify Michael as the suspect responsible for the recent attack. The outlet reported that law enforcement officials located Michael at his home just three days following the incident and that officials discovered the clothes Michael wore and the hatchet he used in the attack at his apartment.

Court records obtained by 13 News show that the 25-year-old suspect has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault. The outlet noted that Michael could face additional charges, including a state homicide charge, if Couch dies from his injuries. 13 News reported that Michael currently remains in custody at Pima County Jail on a $1 million bond.

  • Tinubu Governing From Europe — Presidency Explains Extended Leave

The Presidency on Thursday addressed public concern over President Bola Tinubu’s continued stay in Europe beyond his two-week retreat earlier announced.

Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, assured Nigerians that the president remains actively engaged in governance of the country despite being abroad.

Onanuga, in a press release, claimed that Tinubu’s absence was still within the initially communicated timeframe of his leave.

THE WHISTLER reported that President Tinubu departed Abuja for Paris, France, on April 2 and was scheduled to be away for fourteen days.

On Thursday, Onanuga announced that his principal left Paris for London over the weekend and has been in constant communication with key government officials.

The explanation followed questions from Nigerians on social media demanding to know the president’s whereabouts.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains fully engaged in Nigeria’s governance even though he is away in Europe.

“His return to Abuja and the resumption of duties at Aso Villa will follow the conclusion of the Easter holiday.

“The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership.

“We appreciate the public’s concern and assure all Nigerians that governance proceeds without interruption,” said Onanuga.

The presidency had said the trip to Paris would afford Tinubu time to reflect and review his administration’s midterm progress and engage in strategic planning ahead of his second anniversary in office.

“During the visit, the President will appraise his administration’s midterm performance and assess key milestones.

“This period of reflection will inform plans to deepen ongoing reforms and accelerate national development priorities in the coming year,” Onanuga had said.

  • With Elena’s release date, Street Fighter 6’s competition and content updates are now out of sync and disconnected

Up until a week ago, it was thought that Elena was going to release at some point in April or May for Street Fighter 6, but turns out that’s not the case after all.

We now know thanks to the teaser trailer that Elena is coming as the last Season 2 DLC character on June 5, which has implications for the Street Fighter scene as a whole.

Presumably, Capcom is also going to release the big Season 3 balance update at the same time as Elena like they did last year for Akuma.

Now that the patch is likely not coming until June as well, that will produce some issues for the competitive scene of SF6 specifically.

Part of the reason many believed Elena would come in April or May was the fact that the Capcom Pro Tour 2025 season is starting up in less than a month.

It looks like currently, however, the third competitive year is going to begin while still playing the second season of the game.

And it’s not just for one event either.

There’s Evo Japan 2025 with the second largest Evo bracket ever taking place from May 9–11 and then Combo Breaker 2025 at the end of the month too.

That’s two of the limited offline event Capcom Cup slots up for grabs running on the “old” version of the game while the rest of the season will presumably be run on Season 3’s updates.

This shows now there is a pretty clear disconnection between the content aspect of Street Fighter 6 and the competitive scene.

We did get a taste of this last year when Akuma and the Season 2 update came right before Combo Breaker 2024, and then it happened again with M. Bison’s launch and CEO 2024.

That was a bit different, however, since those majors were not part of the CPT circuit, but now we’re seeing it at a bigger level.

This is all plans from Capcom directly, and it’s weird that they’d be apparently out of sync like this.

As far as we know, a Capcom Pro Tour season (at least since Street Fighter 5) has not begun running on the previous year’s version of the game.

We’re not sure of course what’s causing this disconnect whether it be an internal delay of Elena and the Season 3 patch or other scheduling conflicts, but there’s something going on behind the scenes.

This desync can even be seen in the content reveals too with Elena’s teaser skipping Capcom Cup 11 for some reason and instead dropping on a seemingly random Thursday connected to nothing — and that goes for pretty much all events now outside of Evo.

Obviously, the new content is where Street Fighter 6 is going to make pretty much all of the game’s money now, but the Capcom Pro Tour also positions itself as the leader of FGC pro circuits.

And we’re not really seeing any other fighting games have this issue either.

We’ve seen before how the development pipeline for SF6 does not appear to be moving as fast as fans expect considering how long it’s taken to get Outfit 4 options in the game — and we still haven’t seen those yet after almost a year and a half since Outfit 3 dropped.

Games are more expensive and complicated to develop than ever before, but again, it just feels weird that it’s taking the team this long to get content out the door compared to Street Fighter 5 and their current competition.

Mortal Kombat 1 dropped like six new fighters in the time it took SF6 to get one, and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has committed to releasing new characters every two months before the game is even out.

Meanwhile, there’s a four-month gap between Mai and Elena.

And now that’s bled over into the competitive scene as well.

It just feels like a bit of a disservice now to the competitors who put more time into the game than anyone else.

But who knows, maybe Capcom has some more unexpected decisions they’ll be rolling out.

There’s nothing technically stopping them from dropping the Season 3 balance update before Elena though we have our doubts that would actually come to pass.

Instead, it looks like Street Fighter 6 is going to be starting the next leg of its journey with a disconnect to the dedicated community supporting the game most.

Hopefully, the Street Fighter 6 team starts to communicate more about what’s going on and what their plans are for the game like they did towards the end of the last entry.

    We’re all ears here.

  • Nigeria’s power sector generated N700bn revenue in 2024- Adelabu

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said on Thursday that the sector generated N700 billion in revenue last year.

He stated this during the 6th Edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series in Abuja.

The minister said the figure was a 70 percent increase from what was generated by the industry in 2023.

He said: “It is evident that, due to our transformative tariff reforms, the electricity market generated additional N700 billion in revenue in 2024, reflecting a 70 percent increase from what was collected in 2023.

“This resulted from the cost-reflective tariff adjustment for Band A customers. This growth in market revenue is unprecedented, as the highest growth previously achieved was 20 percent.

“This positively impacts the reduction of the government-subsidised tariff shortfall by 35 percent, decreasing it from N3 trillion to N1.9 trillion.”

According to him, the revenue growth demonstrates that financial viability and service delivery can coexist harmoniously.

Adelabu added: “The commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to energy access was further demonstrated with the signing of the Nigerian Energy Compact in Tanzania in January.

“The initiative led by the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AFDB) aligns with the administration’s aspiration to expand energy generation.

“The target of M300 is to extend energy access to an additional 300 million Africans by 2030, out of the 600 million currently lacking access.

“This initiative will be realised based on a five-pillar strategy: expanding generation, strengthening utilities, incentivising private investment, accelerating renewables, and boosting regional integration.

“The compact sets ambitious goals to enhance electricity access, increase renewable energy adoption, and improve clean cooking solutions for millions of Nigerians, ‘’ the minister stated.

…Targets $60bn Investments For NNPC Ltd By 2060

Barely two weeks after assuming duties as the new Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPC Ltd, Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari has met the staff of the Company, with a vow to pursue the company’s bold ambitions and build an NNPC that will be the pride of all Nigerians.
