Overnight drone attacks cause one death in Ukraine, damage in Russia

At least one person has been killed and another injured in heavy Russian drone attacks on the eastern Ukrainian region of Dnipro, according to a statement posted on Telegram by Governor Vladyslav Hayvanenko on Saturday.

Several fires broke out in the regional capital of Dnipro, but damage was also reported to private homes and cars in the smaller towns of Nikopol, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka and Synelnykove, as well as in the district of Myrove.

Russia also reported damage as a result of Ukrainian drone attacks. While the military reported only 64 drones shot down over Russian territory, the governor of Ryazan, Pavel Malkov, confirmed at least one impact. “Falling debris caused a fire on the territory of a company,” Malkov wrote on the Telegram platform.

There were no casualties, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed, Malkov said. According to the internet portal Astra, the company in question is a refinery.

Ukraine is systematically attacking oil and gas processing facilities in Russia. The aim is to stop the Russian military’s fuel supply and make it more difficult to finance the war through exports.
