In a gaming world now ruled by microtransactions, battle passes and DLC, it’s a bit odd to see a playerbase unhappy about not getting enough to spend on, but that’s the situation Street Fighter 6 has found itself in for a while now.
Capcom just announced and released their latest Fighting Pass for SF6, which a growing number of fans are using as an opportunity to voice their displeasure and frustrations regarding the ongoing lack of new costumes and “meaningful” content.
It was all the way back on December 1, 2023 that Capcom released Outfit 3 options to the game for the launch roster.
By our calculations, that’s 402 days.
Yes, the Season 1 DLC characters received their additional costumes back in May last year, but that’s still over a full calendar year since the vast majority of the roster has gotten anything (and almost 230 days since that small batch of outfits).
In general, SF6 hasn’t seen a “major” content update since Terry launched in September last year. That was 104 days ago.
I am honestly confused why they won’t make new costumes for characters.
The whole community is basically screaming for them and saying “please take my money”. https://t.co/4gKwAjhU22

One thing Capcom hasn’t missed out on, however, is their monthly battle passes that offer up a single new avatar outfit at a time as well as minor customization options to use outside of battle.
The latest Boot Camp Bonanza pass focuses on some military gear and callbacks to the forgotten Cannon Spike game, but a vocal part of the dedicated base is not really here for it.
Most of the comments we’re seeing attached to the official announcement on social media and YouTube are asking or talking about the lack of dedicated costumes for the playable cast.
“I’ve never seen a game fumble so much money. Y’all really need to release skins for the main roster,” reads one highly-upvoted YouTube comment.
“I’d rather have nothing. Thank you,” says the most upvoted comment.
Others are taking things in a more comedic route with memes and jokes.

We’d like to think that most people are rational enough to realize / understand that Street Fighter 6 costumes take much more work and effort to craft than ever before with high-resolution models and polish required to look great and not clip through everything all the time like Street Fighter 5.
But that doesn’t really fully explain or excuse Capcom’s handling of SF6’s content this past year.
>Last character was September last year
>Last main roster outfits were December 2023
>Mai not coming out till the end of February
>Release the worst battle pass yet
>Somehow still massively popular in JapanSF6 is the most falling upwards game that ever fell upwards. https://t.co/wupGWIY5Lx

Compared to its direct competitors in Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1, Street Fighter 6 is starving for character content — even if one can argue that SF6’s outfit 3 selection was of generally higher quality than what the other games receive on a regular basis.
Meanwhile, new avatar gear is added to the game every month, which presumably takes considerably fewer resources to produce.
And ultimately, the problem isn’t totally the lack of new DLC itself, but the rather poor communication on Capcom’s part on that front.
Ever since SF5’s final season, the fighting game team at Capcom has been generally much better about their public communication and setting expectations.
No one cares. No one’s interested and no one’s buying. Where’s costume 4? Literally the only thing the community cares about.

But for whatever reasons, they’re remained strangely quiet on new costumes for a long time now.
All we’ve gotten out of Capcom really came after a troll post claimed the developers said Outfit 4 wasn’t coming until late 2026 where they only basically said “no, that’s not true.”
What the Producer actually said in an interview back in October also mostly amounted to, “yes, we know Outfit 3 was very popular. Thanks.”
So at this point, we don’t technically even know if “Outfit 4” actually exists since there’s been no official word on it, but obviously they do.
There’s no updates on Outfit 3 for M. Bison, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui and Elena either.
And ironically, we are now closer to 2026 than when Outfit 3 first launched.
If nothing new comes in the next few months, we’ll have gone through two Capcom Cup championships since then.
Back during SF5’s most active periods, the game was receiving at least one new character costume (but fairly often more) every month between themed packs, individual releases and outfits that could be acquired for free by completing weekly trials / missions.
Street Fighter 6, however, seems to be going back to Street Fighter 4’s approach to just dropping a new costume set for everyone all at once if they continue the pattern of Outfit 3’s releases.
But that’s not really working out for the players with the large amount of time it’s taking them to do so.
Many fans would probably be a lot happier if Capcom released Outfit 4 in smaller batches of like 4 characters at a time every few months, so that way they at least know / see more content is coming out on a regular basis — even if it doesn’t apply to their favorite characters in particular.
STOP DOING THIS! Please just give the main characters skins. Where outfits 3, 4, 5, 6, were the Christmas or Halloween skins. CAPCOM pls I’ll spend the money just create it pic.twitter.com/nUFBTdfY8M

Capcom could still keep costume parity over time as well doing it that way instead of the character favoritism that was rampant in SF5 where Chun-Li, Menat, Cammy and Ryu possibly had more outfits than all other fighters combined.
There’s a way to balance this, but releasing nothing for over a year is not a good way to achieve that.
It is becoming pretty clear, however, too that this current approach for Fighting Passes and expensive avatar items is working on some level for the company.
If that form of content wasn’t making them decent money, Capcom wouldn’t be doing it, but you can see walking around Battle Hubs that people are buying in.

And this hasn’t hurt the game’s player retention either.
We recently took a look at the most played fighting games on PC where Street Fighter 6 is leading the genre by a fairly wide margin.
So even if there’s no major new content on the horizon until Mai releases, tens of thousands of players are still consistently logging in all around the world.
Despite these issues, Capcom has found success in SF6 and they way it’s being run now, but how long can that effectively last?
It’d be really nice to receive some sort of communication or more fleshed out content update roadmap besides the minisule one we have for Year 2 DLC characters.
