Over 3,000 people displaced in Northern Cross River due to communal war (Photos)

Information reaching us says more than three thousand (3,000) people living in the Busi 4 community of Obanliku Local Government Area (LGA) have been displaced due to recent communal clash between the Busi’ (Busi 1, 2, 3,4 5, and 6) community in Northern Cross River State.

According to reports, the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Busi 4 had fled their village following an invasion by its neighbouring communities, Busi 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 over a land dispute that has lasted for several years. Following that same incident, a court judgments had initially favoured the Busi 4 community five times.

Responding to the issue, one Hajiya Aishatu Umaru when poised by media men wailed over the situation and describing it as “pathetic” and called for urgent intervention by the relevant authorities regretting that they cannot return to the village until safety is guaranteed. Although, no live was lost but their livelihood may be gone.

Recently, CrossRiverWatch.Com reported that the attack which occurred last week has left the IDP’s helpless, exposed to harsh weather conditions and diseases, as sources say over 500 houses were burnt with properties worth about 800 million Naira destroyed.


By God’s doing, the zonal coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr. Eze Major and colleagues in the State Emergency management Agency, Mr. John Inaku had recently visited the area to assess the damage and have been sending relief materials to the people.
