Over 30 scrapped costume designs for Akuma, Ed, A.K.I. and Rashid revealed by Street Fighter 6 Director

Street Fighter 6’s first season of DLC characters are now the only ones in the game who haven’t received their Outfit 3 yet, and now we can get a glimpse as to what they could have ended up being.

Director Takayuki Nakayama just revealed more than 30 scrapped costumes for Akuma, Ed, A.K.I. and Rashid in SF6.

There’s a large variety of different styles and ideas on display across the shown artwork including some references to the past like Cyber Akuma and a pretty young looking A.K.I. with long hair wearing a variation of F.A.N.G’s default outfit in Street Fighter 5 plus heels.

A.K.I. has the widest amount of different ideas in general that changes her core design pretty drastically including wearing a gas mask, a school girl outfit, being bandaged up like Makoto Shishio from Rurouni Kenshin, a couple with an actual hat, poison pots on her legs and even more standouts.

Akuma unfortunately has the fewest shown off here including the demon with short hair holding a small bird, but there’s also a few funny ones like a torn up salaryman outfit and a track suit that makes him look like a gym teacher.

Ed’s all of course have some boxing theme attached to them, but it looks like the design team really did have a bunch of potential different ways they could have taken him appearance wise.

Rashid’s are the most similar to each other and to what his final design would be, but there’s one on the top left that seems to show him carrying a stack of fan blades on his back that he can detach and likely enhance his wind, which could have been interesting.

As he confirmed in a follow-up post, none of these are going to be Outfit 3 designs that were chosen for SF6’s first round of DLC characters, and these are all discarded ideas from development that at least had art made to consider them.

It appears these designs were likely shared first at the Street Fighter 6 development behind-the-scenes panel in the game’s special resort at Lagunasia in Japan a little while back.

This is where Nakayama previously teased some other scrapped outfits for Cammy and Juri as well as an entire character who didn’t make the final cut too.

Lagunasia is also where Akuma will have a playable sneak peek event as well at the real life Battle Hub next month.

From Nakayama’s post, it sounds like there’s even more shown in their presentation that hasn’t been made fully public yet, and that he plans to show off more material in the future at some point.
