Back in the middle of June, it was announced that the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics would be releasing sometime in 2024. This was quite a surprise for the community considering how things ended with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Needless to say, this announcement has some major implications for the future of the series.
As it turns out, there’s still a lot of life left in the old school Marvel vs. Capcom games even though it’s been over 24 years since Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was released. SuperUnk3800 has discovered a deadly new unblockable setup with Cable, a character that’s already recognized as being top tier in MvC2.
Even Justin Wong, one of the best Marvel vs. Capcom 2 players of all time, couldn’t believe that this tech had remained hidden for so long. If it turns out that this tech is viable for high level play, Cable might end up in a tier all on his own.
Based on what’s seen in the clip, the unblockable setup is initiated with Cable’s Hyper Viper Beam, which is already said to be one of the best Hypers in the game. It would appear that the opponent needs to be airborne for this sequence to work.
Upon using the Hyper Viper Beam, the user only needs to DHC into another fast Hyper Combo. Strangely, this results in the Hyper Combo being unblockable if it’s fast enough.
Of course, it’s demonstrated that it’s fine to DHC into another character in the middle of Cable’s Hyper Viper Beam for some added chip damage. Additionally, the damage against a poorly timed assist can be quite painful.
It turns out that there are multiple ways for Cable to set the conditions for this situation to happen. Check it all out below and be prepared to see this happening often once Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is released:
