The attention has been brought by leading social commentator, Ifere Paul, whose status as being declared wanted by the government of Cross River State is yet to be reversed despite the Nigerian Police's official stance of distancing itself from the intimidation, to the only road leading to and out of the governor's home town, Obudu. It's the Ogoja-Obudu (Ikom-Obudu) federal road.
Findings has it that the road under review, popularly referred to as Chairman Road, was constructed by the construction company called SGEN in the late 1970s during the Olusegun Obasanjo military regime. Former civilian President Shehu Shagari constructed the Obudu-Ranch axis of the road in the early 1980s. The last government that attended to this road was the former Governor Liyel Imoke administration that effected some repairs.
Governor Ben Ayade after over a year in office has neither a local government area, state nor federal road to celebrate. The question has been asked by Paul, 'Is it that Governor Ben Ayade does not want to develop his own region too?'. This is despite the fact that the popular 'Ayade Motors' plus this route for business.
I am calling on the governor of the state, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, to reconsider his stance on infrastructural development especially road construction.
