The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor, on Sunday, January 25, 2026, hosted a delegation of local government chairmen and senior government officials as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic registration (e-registration) exercise across the state.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Cross River State and Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, Hon. Yibala Inyang, and included the Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Hon. Bassey Effiom Effiong, alongside other key government functionaries.
The visit, which took place at Barr. Agbor’s Etomi country home in Etung Local Government Area, was aimed at deepening grassroots mobilisation, strengthening collaboration among party stakeholders, and ensuring the success of the APC e-registration exercise in Etung LGA and neighbouring communities.
Speaking during the solidarity visit, Hon. Yibala Inyang said the engagement underscored the commitment of local government leadership to working closely with party leaders and government officials to expand APC membership and boost participation in the registration process.
He noted that the Forum of Local Government Chairmen remains focused on strengthening APC structures at the grassroots and ensuring that all eligible party members are properly captured in the ongoing exercise. Hon. Inyang commended Barr. Agbor for his consistent support for party-building initiatives, describing him as a dependable ally in advancing the objectives of the APC across Cross River State.
In his remarks, Hon. Bassey Effiom Effiong, Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government Area, stressed the strategic importance of the e-registration exercise in repositioning the APC for sustained political growth and inclusiveness. He said a robust and credible grassroots party database was critical for effective planning, mobilisation, and the strengthening of internal democracy.
Expressing concern over the comparatively low turnout recorded in some parts of the state, Hon. Effiong commended Barr. Agbor for the level of mobilisation observed in Etomi, while urging party members to intensify efforts to improve participation figures.
He assured that local government councils remain fully committed to mobilising party members and supporters to embrace the exercise, adding that a successful e-registration process would further consolidate the APC’s dominance across Cross River State. He urged party faithful to see the exercise as a collective responsibility aimed at securing the party’s future.
Responding, Barr. Gilbert Agbor thanked the delegation for the visit, describing it as a clear demonstration of unity, shared purpose, and collective resolve within the APC. He reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that promote grassroots engagement and party consolidation, stressing that sustained collaboration among party leaders was critical to the success of the e-registration drive.
The visit underscored the determination of APC leaders and government officials in Cross River State to work together in strengthening the party through inclusive, coordinated, and sustained grassroots mobilisation.
Following the departure of the local government chairmen, Barr. Agbor, accompanied by the Leader of the Etung Legislative Council, Hon. ThankGod Ekubnse Ojong; Mr. Nji Nji, a Director in the State Road Maintenance Agency; and members of the Etung Local Government Executive Council, including the Supervisor for Environment, Amba Obaji; Supervisor for Transport, Bright Ntui; and Supervisor for Agriculture, Collins Asu Bassey, proceeded to Abia Ward, navigating difficult terrain to further mobilise residents to participate in the APC e-registration exercise.
During the visit, Barr. Agbor expressed concern over the generally low turnout recorded so far in Etung Local Government Area and called on ward leaders to intensify mobilisation efforts, noting that the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration has implemented people-centred policies and programmes deserving of broad public support.
The high point of the visit to Abia community was the presentation of registration materials to ward officials, alongside the provision of incentives aimed at encouraging increased participation of women in the APC e-registration exercise.
