Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has charged the Matriculants of Lux Mundi University Umuahia to imbibe the virtue of self motivation to achieve higher academic standards in life.
The Governor stated this during the unveiling of the Lux Mundi University, investiture of the chancellor of the institution Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, and the maiden matriculation ceremony held at Lux Mundi University Ndagbo Afaraukwu Umuahia on Friday.
Governor Otti who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, urged the students to remain focused and congratulated the matriculants for being the pioneer students of the institution.
Governor Otti maintained that the establishment of the institution is in line with his vision of revitalising the education sector to enable students from the state compete favourably with their counterparts nationally and internationally .
He lauded the founder , Prof. Gabriel Okenwa for achieving the feat.
In his speech, a former Governor of Imo state, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim who is also named after the faculty of management sciences assured of his continued support to the university expressing hope that it will become one of the best in West Africa.
Earlier in his remark, the founder and Pro chancellor Lux Mundi University, Professor Gabriel Okenwa said that Lux Mundi University stands on a foundation that extends beyond mere academic rigour, pointing out that the institution is out to illuminate humanity and appreciated the Governor Dr Alex Otti for his Sustained support to him and the traditional rulers in Umuahia and all those who contributed in making his vision a reality pointing out that they will do their best to ensure that the university becomes a great citadel of learning.
In his speech, the chancellor Lux Mundi University, and Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese Catholic Church,Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, who expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him to serve as the Vice Chancellor assured that he will do his best to expand network of partnership with local and international institutions.
Archbishop Ugorji explained that the essence of having the institution is to nurture graduates of integrity and specialised skills.
In their good will messages, the Archbishop Methodist Church Nigeria umuahia Diocese, Archbishop Chibuzo Opoko, the vice chancellor Godfrey Okoye University, Prof. Christian Anieke represented by Rev sis Mary Nwachukwu congratulated the founder of the institution Prof. Okenwa and wife for achieving the feat .
Speaking to the press, a student of the institution in the faculty of law Miss Chidera Deborah expressed joy and assured that she will take her studies seriously.
