Otti Pledges Commitment to Academic Excellence

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has pledged his administration’s commitment to academic excellence.

He made the pledge on Thursday when he officially handed over a new block of classrooms to the Federal College of Education Ofeme Ohuhu Umuahia in the state.

The occasion brought together an array of dignitaries, stakeholders, and esteemed guests to celebrate the significant milestone.

Representing the State Governor was the Deputy Governor, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu, whose presence underscored the administration’s commitment to the development of education within Abia State and beyond.

Chief Emetu conveyed the Governor’s vision for academic excellence and emphasized the importance of fostering an environment conducive to learning and innovation.

“This administration is committed to achieving academic excellence in our institutions, and we believe this can only be accomplished by fostering an environment that encourages learning, innovation, and creativity,” He said.

Honorable Anderson Akaniro, a distinguished member of the Abia State House of Assembly, representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) graced the occasion.

Hon. Akaniro highlighted the pivotal role of education in driving socio-economic growth and pledged continued legislative support to strengthen educational institutions across the state.

“Education is the backbone of socio-economic growth, and as a legislature, we are committed to providing the necessary support to strengthen our educational institutions, ensuring that our citizens are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to drive progress and prosperity across our state,” Akaliro said.

Also speaking, the provost of the College, Dr. Titus Ezeme described the challenges they faced when they first took office in June 2023.

“When I assumed office as the pioneer provost of the college in June 2023 , the realities on the ground were daunting.

“We inherited buildings that were in a state of disrepair, raising deep concerns about the possibility of taking off as a functional tertiary institution. The task before us seemed herculean, and the path forward appeared uncertain,” she said.
