The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has urged members of the Executive Council to remain focused and committed to the state’s governance agenda, emphasizing the need to sustain momentum and accelerate execution.
In his opening remarks at the first Executive Council retreat for 2025, the Governor stressed that success in any endeavor requires deliberate preparation and a rigorous process of periodic assessment.
“The only safeguard against failure is to consistently commit oneself to a rigorous process of periodic assessment and the conscious application of what has been done to improve performance,” he said.
The Governor noted that the state’s governance agenda, as outlined in the manifesto and development document, captures every lever needed to accelerate socio-economic transformation.
He emphasized the importance of developing a robust execution template to drive the attainment of strategic governance targets for the current fiscal year.
“The 2025 budget ties the release of funds to the pursuit of clearly established outcomes. It will be very difficult to access funds unless it has been established that such funds will be channeled into projects and programs that align with our development priorities,” he explained.
The Governor charged the executives to exceed their past achievements, stating that 2025 will be a crucial year for the state.
Furthermore, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Prof. Kenneth Kanu in his opening speech emphasized the importance of sustaining momentum and accelerating execution in the administration’s journey. The theme of the retreat, “Sustaining the Momentum, Accelerating Execution,” highlights the need to maintain the current pace of progress while also driving innovation.
The SSG noted that when an administration achieves momentum, there are three possible outcomes. First, complacency can set in, leading to a loss of momentum. Second, the administration may become content with its current progress and fail to push forward. Third, the administration can continue to drive itself forward, comparing its progress against its own standards rather than external benchmarks.
To achieve the latter, the SSG stressed the importance of accelerating innovation. “This requires embracing a culture of continuous improvement, where every aspect of the administration’s work is constantly evaluated and refined” He said.
