Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor are reportedly ready to resume their chase for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu this January, as they look to bring the prolific forward back to Turkey.
Onuachu’s future has been uncertain over the past year. After joining Southampton from Genk two seasons ago, the Nigerian striker struggled for game time due to managerial preferences.
Last season, Onuachu moved on loan to Trabzonspor, where he impressed with 17 goals and 4 assists in 25 appearances. His stellar performances led to speculation that the Turkish side might pursue a permanent deal, but negotiations with Southampton fell through, leaving Onuachu in Hampshire.
This season has been a mixed bag for Onuachu. He struggled to get minutes at Southampton until December, but things changed with the arrival of coach Ivan Juric, who replaced Russell Martin.

Under Juric’s guidance, Onuachu has seen a boost in playing time. Despite this, rumors persist that the 30-year-old forward could still leave the Premier League club.
According to reports from The Saints Centre, Trabzonspor is set to reignite talks with Southampton this January to acquire Onuachu’s services. The Turkish side is likely to push for a loan move, although Southampton is expected to demand a fee exceeding €12 million for a permanent transfer.

While Juric appears to value Onuachu, the striker’s future remains uncertain. It could be challenging for Trabzonspor to secure a deal if the coach wants to retain the Nigerian’s services.
The next few weeks could be crucial in determining Onuachu’s fate.
