1. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen will on Monday 14th January face the Code of Conduct Tribunal on a 6 counts charge over allegations of Non declaration of assets.
2. Embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Walter Onnoghen has blamed forgetfulness as the reason for his failure to declare his asset.
3. South-South Governors Call Emergency Meeting To Discuss Impending Trial Of CJN Onnoghen. According to Dickson, “all efforts must be on deck to prevent the subversion and desecration of the ethos of democracy in Nigeria”.
4. CCT the charges were filed before it by the Code of Conduct Bureau, based on a petition signed by the Executive Secretary of the Anti-corruption Research Data-based Initiative ARDI, Dennis Aghanya.
He was a media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari between 2009 and 2011; while he was also a pioneer National Publicity Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change.
Aghanya, Buhari’s former Aide, who wrote petition against Justice Onnoghen, is Executive secretary of an anti corruption NGO that gave Gov. Ganduje an award.
5. Charge 1 has to do with Onnoghen failing to submit a written document of his declaration of his asset and liability within three months of appointment as Justice of Supreme Court in 2005.
Charges 2, 3 & 4: has to do with false declaration of asset to the Code of Conduct Bureau by omitting his domiciliary account
Charge 5 has to do failing to declare an e saver account
Charge 6 has to do with failing to declare a naira account all with Standard Chartered Bank Nig Limited.
6. The CCT Chairman is standing trial. Recall that in Feb 2018 Festus Keyamo filed criminal charges against the CCT Chairman. Who’ll now try CJN Onnoghen?
7. The CJN has been asked by the Federal Government to resign yo enable him defend asset declaration charges brought against him. But, Buhari didn’t step aside while defending his WAEC certificate scandal? (Executive). Saraki didn’t step aside while defending asset declaration charges. (Legislature)
Why should CJN Onnoghen step aside while defending asset declaration charges brought against him? (Judiciary).
8. On 21/08/2016, Sam Saba – Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) – argued that the Bureau is prevented by law from releasing the asset declaration of any public holder. The question then is: How did Dennis Aghanya & ARDI get Justice Onnoghen’s forms to know he didn’t or failed to declare assets?
9. Reno Omokri predicted exactly what is happening to Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen last week. He said that president Buhari will initiate the arrest of a prominent individual to divert attention from the Amaechi leaked tapes.
10. Legally inferring, an existing Appeal Court ruling says no Judicial officer can be investigated except the NJC. It is after the NJC has determined that a judicial officer is guilty that the Government can move in to charge to court or prosecute. Therefore, FG trial of Onnoghen at CCT is null/void
11. Information making the rounds suggest strongly that over 150 senior advocates to defend CJN at CCT tomorrow.
12. The leading opposition party, the PDP has alleged that the APC & the cabal at the Presidency are hounding the CJN Onnoghen and seeking his removal so as to cause a constitutional crisis, instill fear in judicial officers and pave way for the foisting of a pliable CJN that will do their bidding on electoral matters.
